Nykinae was out doing what she usually did. Shopping. Nothing too different from her everyday life really. The market was bustling with other people who were all out due to needs or boredom. She moseyed her way down the main row looking at all the goods that were on display. Most of it she had seen before, either the previous day or a week ago. Kina was at the market and shops so frequently that there were hardly new things to surprise her and usually when something new hit the shelves she was already aware of it.

When she got halfway down the row she noticed there was a commotion up ahead. Not wanting to get involved in what appeared to be some kind of dispute she sighed and started to look around for an alternative. When she looked to the right she saw an alley that she could pass through to the other side of the market since it was a giant “U” shaped affair. Moving out of the main row she headed for the alley. Kina spared a last look at the dispute before she disappeared down the alleyway.

Once in it she noticed that there was a stall set up at the other end. How odd. Usually they left the alley unblocked by stalls in case they needed to drive a cart through for supplies. Nykinae thought nothing of it though and continued. When she was close enough she noticed that it was some shabby looking thing that looked as though it was haphazardly put together. And someone was actually working it!

“Hello there!” The elderly woman called out to her.

“Mh.” Kina tried to ignore her and simply walk past but the woman stepped in her way.

“Might I interest you in a few potions?” The woman grinned at her. “We have a few for excellent skin.” The elderly woman eyed her up and down.

Kina sighed yet again and this time stopped. “No thank you, my skin is just fine.”

“Ah, I see…” The woman squinted at her. “Then perhaps you’d like one to make your eyes the doe kind that men like?” To emphasize this the woman used both hands to pry her own eyes open and make them appear wider than they were.

Nykinae leaned back with a bit of apprehension. “Uh, no. I like my eyes the way they are. I like everything about me in fact.” She wasn’t keen on changing her appearance honestly.

“Ah, a vain one I see.”

Here Kina scoffed. Just because she liked how she looked and didn’t want to change it didn’t mean she was vain. Though she made no argument about the fact. She was vain just not for that reason.

“If you’re not interested in anything for your looks, what about something for your lover? A love potion? Maybe one to make someone obey you?” The woman offered, this time picking up a bottle with a swirling pink liquid.

“Love potion?” Kina asked before she rolled her eyes. “What makes you think that someone worthy of me wouldn’t already be in love with me?” Her snobbish attitude showing through. “And people already do obey me when I want them to.” Of course she usually had to be a bit more vocal about it.

The woman set the bottle down and eyed her a bit more. “Hm.. a tough one.”

After a minute more of considering Kina the woman moved around the stall and dug under the shelf for something. Clinking of many more bottles could be heard. “Ah ha, here it is..” The woman said before she pulled out a small vial and held it up. Inside was a inky black liquid that looked more like someone’s brush water.

“What is that?” Kina couldn’t help but ask. Was the woman going to splash it on her and ruin her outfit?

“A potion to change your voice to the most alluring sound.” The woman stated.

Why would she need to do that? Was the woman saying her voice was annoying? This made Kina narrow her eyes at the woman. “No, I’m not interested. You might consider using it yourself. Perhaps if you had a young and pretty voice you could get men off the street to buy your potions.” As long as they didn’t see her face then they wouldn’t be any the wiser.

The woman frowned at her but said nothing.

Nykinae had had enough of the old woman so she continued on her way out of the alley. Once she was back on the main row she turned to the left and continued with her daily ritual of window shopping.
