The months following their travel back from Sauti had been a bit of a whirlwind adventure as far as Eziya considered. While the travel itself hadn't been too hard, once they had arrived back in Oba things had gotten hectic pretty quick. Fiia had welcomed them into her home like always, but no soon after that had Eziya been put to work. The town they had settled in needed a healer, and while it was surprising to be thrown into the ordeal, Eziya had ended up with a shop just as she had always dreamed of. Delivering babies, helping the sick and injured, it was all very exciting work. Her biggest worry now was if Serr was happy with it. Being thrown into the responsibilities meant now traveling, but they had a steady income unlike before. She was helping a lot, but ensuring they were both happy was her main worry.

Eziya was distracted thinking about it all as she closed up the shop for the night, her new routine of late night work becoming easier and easier as she went along with it. She didn't make Serr work with her, but sometimes wondered what he got into while she was helping around.

"Probably something fun," she chuckled, muttering to herself as she puttered about the building.

It had been a while since Serr was left to his own devices so consistently, but it didn't take him long to ease into old habits, now with fewer questionable choices. He might have amassed a ton of interesting knowledge during their adventures up north, but he'd had to relearn not to surprise people by jumping out of trees too close to them the hard way. He descended a good distance from Eziya now, so as not to give her the fright of her night, and cleared his throat as he got within earshot.

"Happy evening," Serr said with a smile in his voice. He was a little nervous, but he knew deep down that even if he said something foolish, she would never fault him for it. "How was work?"

Now that they had been back for a little while, it was probably time to ask if there was anything he could do to help out on a more permanent basis. But he had other things to talk about tonight, and he had to get them out of his head before they skittered holes in his brain.

"Happy evening," Eziya replied, perking up at the appearance of her favorite person. She wandered over to him, pressing her forehead against his shoulder for a moment as she let herself relax from the day's events. She was a bit tired, but it was a tired of a good day's work. She was getting to use her hands to help. "Work was good. I do miss being around you all day though," she admitted, glancing up at him from her spot against hi,.

"What fun did you get up to today? Anything exciting? Talk to anyone fun?' Whatever he did she was happy to listen to it, even if he did nothing at all.

"I miss you too." He turned to face her and wrapped her in a hug. "I had some ideas about that, but..." He shrugged a little.

"Today I met an interesting person. A wind guy with blue hair." Ilistoh had pointy ears too, but that seemed secondary to the hair. "I got some things. I want to give them to you. And talk." Serr touched the strap of his bag as he paused. "Do you want to get something to eat? We could go home too, maybe? Whatever you want."

”Some ideas? I would like to hear them whenever you are willing to share,” Eziya grinned, shifting away a bit to look up at him again. She thought he appeared a bit fidgety, more so than his usual restless energy. Talking was also something he never quite requested, it was something they just did. People of action and all that.

”Is something wrong, Serr, love? I’m always happy with whatever you want to do. You just seem a bit…tense? Nervous? Is this a talk we should have away from the house? So Thess and Fiia don’t eavesdrop?”

"Tense is right." He wasn't trying to hide anything from her, and it would help Eziya to know where he was coming from if he led with how he felt. "It's nothing bad though." At least he didn't think so. Serr supposed that was what he wanted to find out. "Now that I think about it, we should probably stay away from anywhere Thess might be." He chuckled. "He always knows what's on my mind before I do."

"So... we can walk? If we see anything interesting on the way, we can stop and take a look at it too."

"He's very perceptive," Eziya nodded, grabbing hold of his hand and swinging it at her side as they walked. She was tired, but a good tired, and the cool night air felt nice as they walked. "But of course we can talk. We can always talk. You don't have to ask or anything. You can just well....talk. Whatever it is that's on your mind you can tell me. I'll always listen to you. You do know that, yes?"

She worried now that she hadn't communicated that properly to Serr, that for some reason he didn't think he could speak with her.

"Have I said something to think you can't?"

"No, no, I know. I know I can." How to explain this? It wasn't that he didn't want to tell her or that he didn't believe that he could, he just didn't know how to begin. He didn't have the words. "It's more like... this idea feels invasive. Meddling? Too forceful. I know you'll say you wouldn't let me influence you, but I'm afraid you might agree to something you don't want just because it's me asking."

"Here." He paused, reaching into his bag and pulling out a smooth blue stone, the veins and speckles of pink running through it resembling an intricate, captured city. Serr placed it in her hand. "This was once a small Yaeli village. There was a girl living here who wanted to see the world but didn't want to leave home. So she wished on this gem and her city shrunk down inside of it, so that she would never be far away." Ilistoh had told it better. "It's probably not true. I just thought it was a nice story."

He shook his head as he resumed their stroll. "I should start from the beginning. Xariy. She's one of your patients. I met her children."

Eziya listened to Serr speaking, brushing her thumb over the stone as he told his story of the Yaeli girl. She could imagine the trapped city, the longing to not stray too far from home. Though her home wasn't a location and more a person as it had been for years. She couldn't help but grin a little at the thought of Serr stuck in a tiny stone in her pocket, the oddity of it making her chuckle. At the mention of Xariy she glanced up at him, head tilting to one side as she tried to figure out why he was bringing her up.

"Ah yes, she is one of my patients. Her children are sweet," Eziya nodded, thinking of the two hybrids and their parents. "They are good kids. I'm sure they will do well."

"Yes! They will." Serr went back to picking through his bag until he no longer felt like running off. He pulled out a book this time, a thin, bright tome with a watercolor animal on the cover.

The Littlest Nondwa.

"Have you ever wondered what that would be like?" He offered Eziya the story but didn't let go, not wanting her to have to hold both of his odd gifts unless she chose to. "I hadn't. Not until recently. I just wanted to let you know that I'm not against the idea now, if you're ever interested. I think ours would do well too."

Eziya looked at the book and smiled, enthralled by the little book and its pretty colors. It took her a moment to process what Serr had said, blush creeping over her face at the statement. It wasn't that she'd never thought of the idea, especially once she had talked with Xariy more, but she had never thought Serr would bring up the potential for it. It surprised her but in a way also excited her.

"I've thought of it. You know, I always think our kids would be really really cute. Very energetic too," she laughed, rubbing at the back of her neck. "But you....you would want that? I mean I suppose you wouldn't have brought it up if you didn't."

Serr continued to hold his breath for a long moment, forgetting all about the third gift the merchant had sold him. He had approached this discussion with... frankly horrifying expectations... and the reality of the conversation was so much better than he thought it would be that he didn't know how to continue right away. He had prepared to backpedal and reassure, not this. The unknown.

"Okay," he said, lowering the book and relaxing his clasping fingers. "Okay. Yes. I would." Serr smiled. "I think I could keep up with them." He imagined the years of care, love, and attention that it would take to raise a whole person, and was not deterred.

"So... that's something to think about. For sure."

"For sure," Eziya laughed, thinking on her conversation she had with Xariy. It seemed it had sort of both been on their mind which reassured her. Eziya was worried she was overthinking and finding meaning where there hadn't been, but Serr was wanting it. To be a dad, and she thought he would be good at it still. Even if they were both very nervous.

"We would....have to be stationary. At least for a while. Until the children were old enough to travel safely. And I would want to stay for a bit to make sure I could establish someone here at the shop in my place," she muttered, trying to think on the logistics of kids.

Wandering would never truly be boring, but the last time they had ventured north, Serr had quickly tired of the scenery. Oba was more interesting, at least for now.

"I wouldn't mind. We can stay here as long as we need." He stood silently as she began planning their far off future, his smile growing with every addition. It was only when she paused that he remembered he had one last gift to give. After a brief shuffle through his bag, Serr held out his hand, palm up, presenting Eziya with a silver ring. It had a thin vein of moonstone running around its circumference, but was otherwise simple, matte metal.

"I'm sure you will be able to find a worthy apprentice in a few years."

Eziya gasped at the ring, very gently picking it up from his palm and holding it up to examine. It was really beautiful, the fanciest thing she'd ever seen, and having it be a gift from Serr was always the best thing. She tapped the ring on his own pinky before sliding the ring on hers, holding it out for him to look at.

"I think it's a suitable replacement, don't you think?" she teased, beaming with her excitement. "But I think you're right. I made a friend with Xariy, and I think staying here for a while is not so bad. We'll have some good times no matter where we go/"

Having children and being in a stable place was something she'd not considered until very recently, but she wanted it.
