Tendaji is a rich and diverse land filled with many different cultures and languages. While most travelers are fortunate enough to speak a common language, sometimes one might find themselves in a village where they can't communicate with the local population. How do you manage? Do you find someone to translate, or fumble along?

[ Tendaji has many different languages that the locals speak, and sometimes you might find yourself in a village or town where no one is speaking your language. Use this prompt to explore that miscommunication - maybe thinking about how hard it is to get your message across. Or connecting with a stranger who is helping you translate so you can make that purchase you need. What happens when everything is lost in translation? ]

Ilidan, a very large seaport.. Well compared to the single soul that found himself wandering its streets as his parents were off at a tailor shop. Standing at a railing that looked out over the sea, the salty air blowing at his face and ruffling his short hair. Shaking his head he turned away from the open water. Silver eyes glanced at the shore front shops to find something interesting. There seemed to be many clothing and dress shops, these made his nose wrinkle. Why hadn’t he been allowed to bring along one of his books? This was seriously dull.

“I wish they would hurry up!” Beowulf exclaimed as he turned his gaze towards the clear blue skies above. “This would have been faster if I could read.”

Beowulf closed his eyes as he leaned back against the railing as he seemed to just want to wait here for his parents. Well this was until something tugged at his sleeve. Eyes snapping open at the feel he glanced down towards this small colorful face that stared back up at him. Large blue eyes stared up at him, ones that looked clearly lost.

“Can I help you?” he asked as the child continued to hand onto the sleeve of his shirt. “You can let go now…”

The child shook her head before tugging on it to tell him to follow her. Beowulf grabbed a hold of his clothing and tried to pull it, gently, from the girl’s hold. “What?” he asked as she just stared at him. A string of sounds, they could have been words flew from the girl’s mouth as she spoke, but these made no sense to him. Blinking a couple of times he just stared confused. What was she saying? Were these even words?

“What are you saying?” He asked a little gruffly as the girl stepped back a bit. “Can’t you speak common?”

Then again, what was the common language? Backing away from the kid, Beowulf looked around to see if anyone else was around that could help them. Many people were hustling and bustling past, but none seemed to notice anything that was going on around them. Again the kid, he didn’t know why they were attracted to him in the first place, started speaking again.

“Hold on, let me try..” He started, scratching at his short hair in frustration. There was far too much noise here to think, it all just made him want to shout.

Shaking his head he grabbed a hold of the kid’s hand and started walking towards the closest shop. The child, a Moakia it seemed to be, gave a bit of a squeak in response to the actions. He led them into the closest shop, one that looked much like a general store. The bell above the door jingled announcing his entrance into the shop as an older Yaeli turned towards them.

"Well, hello there young sprite, What might I do for you?” the keeper asked as he looked from Beowulf to the kid he was tugging around.

“This kid, fish, I don’t know what, started pulling at my sleeve and saying something.” Beowulf said, looking back at the kid who now seemed to hide behind him, their eyes wide and being very silent.

‘Did they now,’ The keeper looked towards the kid who tried to hide themselves behind Beowulf.

“Yea and I don’t understand what they are saying.” He looked back towards the kid before trying to move to the side, but the kid followed his movements to remain behind him. “Come on, this guy can help.” He tried to sound reassuring, but a little frustrated by it all.

The kid shook their head as they continued to look towards the older Yaeli, shaking their head as they pressed closer to Beowulf. Has this kid done something wrong within this shop? To its owner? This was starting to make Beowulf’s head hurt as he tried to puzzle it all out, though failing at it.

‘Hey there kid, where’s your parents?’ the keeper asked as he came out from behind the counter and crouched a bit beside them. ‘I know you, you're the little scamp who ran through here not too long ago.’ the shopkeeper said as he got a good look at the kid. ‘Their parents are looking for them. Said they were upset they ran away.’

Beowulf looked at the kid as they shook their head, words spilling from their mouth like waves. The noise was enough that Beowulf covered his ears before the kid went quiet again. Seemed the shopkeeper was merely nodding to what was being said before looking back to Beowulf.

‘Seems they thought you could help them with something.’ he looked back at the Moakai kid, ‘Perhaps to find your parents?’ he asked as the kid soon nodded. ‘Right, I think I saw them not too long ago. You can leave the kid here, I will watch over them.’

Beowulf looked at the kid who still clung to him. “Alright, stay here.” Beowulf said to the kid as he tried to gently pull their hands off his clothing so that he could leave. “I need to go find my own parents, you can wait here for yours.”

The kid looked at Beowulf with pitiful eyes before nodding and letting go. They walked over to the shopkeeper who picked them up and waved to Beowulf who in turn made a hasty exit back to where he had been left by his parents.
