There was a Chaos agent nearby. Spei could feel them. He knew that very likely they could feel him as well, but that didn't stop him from being as stealthy as possible. The Moon Squire crept along the roof of the downtown building in a low crouch, eyes and senses wide open as he attempted to triangulate the Chaos signature's location. They were close, he could tell, maybe just a few buildings away. Maybe, if he was lucky, he could find them before they found him. He didn't want to fight. He wasn't a combat monster by any means, not even with his buckler shield and its magic spell. The spell wasn't even offensive in nature – it just hit like a bus and knocked the target back a ways. It also made them think about purifying, but that was neither here nor there to the current situation. Which was: avoid getting into trouble. Leaping as silently as he could across the alley to the next rooftop, he stopped. The Chaos signature was on the move; surely they sensed his presence by now. Spei froze in place, tracking the aura to the very alley he'd just leapt over. Then it stopped. Too late. "I mean you no harm," he called out, knowing his voice would carry down to the alley and echo around the various bits of urban detritus there. Hopefully it would confuse them about his exact location. "I don't want to fight you." Spei fell silent, waiting for some kind of response. With luck, it wouldn't be of the physical variety.

Niter was just trying to mind his business. His business happened to be draining people, but he was trying to mind that and not the knight aura's business that kept hanging around the area. "Go away, please," Niter muttered under his breath as he walked.
Niter was dressed in a grey hoodie with a black swish on the front, which somehow both clashed horribly with his senshi outfit and helped him blend in enough that people stopped staring at him. Maybe it was the bad fashion sense that made him seem more normal, as opposed to his super flashy Super Sailor outfit. Or, maybe it was the fact that he got frustrated after he'd powered up that evening and cut off most of his braids. Now the bad haircut was concealed by the drawn hood. Whatever the case, Niter felt better for being somewhat invisible and somewhat warmer, for now he could nestle his hands in the shared pocket and ignore the biting cold a little better.
But he couldn't ignore whoever was making all that noise, be it auric noise or mouth noise. It was disruptive, and it caught people's attention, and it — sort of worked out for Niter? Like, he never took more than a light skim from anyone he passed, and the hoodie helped conceal the energy orbs, but when they were distracted like that? He could pretend to be distracted, too, and then take a little more energy.
The last guy in the alleyway bolted as soon as he heard the disembodied voice, which struck Niter as weird until he realized that guy had probably stolen something or broken the law. That made it less weird, but it did leave Niter alone. With a… Whatever the middle version of a knight was. A Scribe?
Niter sighed. He turned and slouched up against some stacked pallets as he tried to decide what to do. Ignoring them was probably the safer option, but ignoring them was rude. The guy at the university was just a straight b*****d, but this one didn't seem nearly so angry, so ignoring him probably wouldn't teach him anything. With his shoulders hunched, Niter called back, "Okay, then can you leave?"

Spei heard some running footsteps from below, but the Super signature didn't budge, so he figured it must have been a potential energy draining victim who got spooked by his voice. Good, at least something positive had come out of this encounter so far – he'd somehow managed to thwart a draining and possibly a starseed-swiping as well. Doing his job in a way that didn't get himself hurt (or cause any hurt to anyone else). That would make the Code happy. He summoned his buckler from subspace (or wherever it went when he wasn't actively carrying it), feeling a little bit safer with the small shield in his hand. "I'm sorry, I can't do that," he called back down into the alley. "I don't trust you not to follow and attack me." Spei winced as the words came out of his mouth; it made him sound like a complete wuss, like he couldn't protect himself or engage in combat. The latter, he definitely couldn't, not really. The former, though… Straightening, he leapt across the alley to the wall of the next building over, kicking off from that to the wall of the building he'd just left, and ricocheted himself off the walls down to the ground. He braced himself on landing and aimed his buckler toward… a very nondescript-looking young man who didn't look like a badass Chaos agent at all. This guy was clearly the source of the aura, though. Cognitive dissonance ran riot through his head, and he lowered his buckler. "Hello," he said after a moment. Then, just to verify, "You're… a Super Senshi, right?"

Oh, it sounded like that knight was coming down to meet him… Niter didn't think that was a good sign.
Oh, Niter couldn't be trusted. So the Squire was… specifically coming down to him? That didn't make a lot of sense to the boy, but maybe he was going to like, menace him or something? Get a confirmation on what he looked like? Or something else that Niter didn't know about. Niter chewed his lower lip, not really feeling motivated enough to run away, but not super motivated to stay, either.
But the Squire made it soon enough, and. Well. Niter thought his outfit was on the flashy side, but that boy was dressed bright. Niter thought that he would have trouble trying to hide. It made sense, now, why he would want to make sure no one was following him, because he could be spotted from miles away. Probably. Niter didn't actually tail people at all ever, so all he could do was make guesses. Maybe the uh, solid pastel colors did him some favors during the day?
He also seemed just as off-kilter as Niter felt. His question made the boy blink, and Niter wasn't sure how to answer at first. So he looked at the frozen ground for a moment as he dredged up some words.
"If I said yes, would you go somewhere else?" Niter asked, tugging the drawstring on his hoodie tight enough that the hood clung to his face.

"Um, maybe?" Spei replied. "You could just be some guy hanging out in the alley who just wants to be left to his own devices, and I'm sensing the Chaos aura wrong. Or you could really be a corrupt Super looking to drain energy or steal a starseed. Or," he mulled, going further down the rabbit hole, "you could be some guy being held by a corrupt Super who's hiding behind the pallets and you're trying to protect your a** from getting starseeded." The Moon Squire huffed out a sigh. These things were so damn complicated.Raising his buckler again and aiming it at the guy, he narrowed his eyes. Regardless of what was going on, he didn't think he was wrong about this guy being the corrupt Super Senshi. The Chaos just rolled off him like the fog rolling over the hills in San Francisco (which his mom had sent him a video of – damn, that was cool looking). "Look, I don't want to fight you, like I said. But I have to stop you from draining people. You can see my conundrum," he said, trying to reason with the Senshi dude. "So if I left, would you go home and forget about doing your nefarious whatever it was that you were doing?"

Niter didn't know what else to say to the Squire's list of possibilities other than "Yeah." Because they could all be true, he guessed. It was nice to know that he cleaned up like a normal civilian if he just cut his stupid long hair and put on a hoodie, though. It was nice that his bangs hid the forehead hole pretty well.
Which, he didn't really like knowing he had a forehead hole? And he definitely didn't have the courage to reach in there and touch his own brain —
"Um." Niter swallowed. The Squire looked like he was ready for a fight, like he was expecting Niter to lob some powerful magic at his face and like, lay him flat with it. But Niter didn't know any powerful magic — he knew situationally useful magic that sometimes helped him out and usually didn't. Still, the Squire looked like he was expecting to fight, even when he was saying he didn't want to fight, which was a whole lot of mixed signals and Niter was already tired of talking, but fighting or running sounded more exhausting. So what was a Super Senshi to do?
"Okay. I have an idea." Niter just hoped that maybe this person was the reasonable kind, and could intuit that Niter didn't have a strong urge to drain people to death or pull starseeds or whatever. He hadn't even pulled a starseed before, not that the Squire would know that, or believe him.
Sighing, Niter started to whistle a songbird's tune. If his magic worked out for him, the Squire's buckler would vanish from their hands.
Then Niter followed up unenthusiastically, removing his hands from his pockets and holding them up in surrender. "Whew, okay, you got me. I definitely almost died there. Guess it's time to go home~" Then his hands slipped back into his pockets and he began edging toward the alleyway exit.tatterpixie Interstitial Minuet ;; Range: 10' of self Duration: 35 seconds Use Count: 2 Miss Chance: Target moves out of distance before the tune ends, or the object is dismissed Effect: Niter hums a short tune. An interstellar cloak enfolds the target. Multiple magical targets (living or nonliving) are banished to the interstice. If using his magic on allies, they must consent to the magic enveloping them, and are free to leave the effects of the spell at any time. The target is unhurt, unseen, and untouchable. Once the spell expires, the target will return to reality within a 10' radius of Niter.

"That's probably the best thing you could d–" Spei suddenly realized that his buckler had vanished. "What the– I didn't dismiss it," he said in bewilderment, straightening and looking at his gloved hands, which were completely empty. "Did I? No, I'm sure I didn't." He looked back up and saw the Super edging slowly away from him toward the other end of the alley. "Wait, did you do something to my buckler?" Scowling a little, he heaved a sigh and looked back down at his hands. Damn corrupt Super Senshi and their tricksy magic. It didn't seem fair that Knights didn't have tricksy magic like the Senshi did. Letting the Super go was probably the best thing he could do right now. Spei was a dodger and evader, not a fighter, despite his now-missing shield's magic attack, and it seemed like the corrupt Super was likewise not keen on combat. "Okay, you can go now," Spei nodded in what he hoped was an authoritative manner, spreading his hands as he too backed up slowly. "Just uh, no draining tonight, okay? And no taking starseeds ever, that's just bad." Mentally he cringed at what he'd just told the Super to do, but hopefully it got the point across. "And wrong," he added just to be sure.

Niter paused on his way out, surprised that the Squire was saying anything to him. When he practiced his magic on agents, they were always able to resummon their weapons, whether he gave them back or not. It was a little surprising that the Squire didn't assume the same? Or maybe try to resummon the buckler? Not that it would really appear until after his magic ended, but — Well, it's not like the Squire knew what his magic was.
"Oh, um." As Niter's magic reached its end, the buckler reappeared in his hands as he was turned away from the Squire. He stopped, turned, and tossed it toward the Squire. "Here."
Maybe that made them even? He hoped that made them even.
"Just so you know? I don't actually take orders from knights. Not that have anything against you guys, but you're just not who I take orders from?" If that made sense. "But, I'll see what I can do." He didn't want to admit to going home because the rest sounded like work, and starseeds definitely sounded like work, and Niter was perfectly fine not doing any work. Even if he felt a little guilty for it.
The Negaverse hasn't given up on him the way his parents had.
"Okaybye~ ★" Niter called back, then started into a light jog out of the alley and on his way.

Spei caught the tossed buckler and looked at it like it had suddenly developed two heads. The corrupt Super had somehow disappeared his weapon? And brought it back? That was some magic – there was no way he could have been prepared for that. He was now, though, in case they ran into each other in the future. "No, that makes perfect sense," he replied, watching the Super continue to back away. "It was more of a suggestion than anything." The other turned and trotted away, and with a shake of his head he decided to do the same thing. Strickenized FIN thank you so much for the RP! heart
