Kai was curious about the Academy he had heard so much about, and while he couldn't go in, he could wander near it. And so that's what he had been doing for hours. Wandering. Exploring. Really it was the usual for him, but he had slowed his adventuring when he spotted a strange girl. She didn't look like the lightning or geian folk, so he could only assume she was like him! An outsider! At least that was he was going with.
"Excuse me!" Kai called out, wandering confidently forward to greet the girl. "Hello there!"

Nemia paused at the voice yelling out, unsure if the person was trying to get her attention or someone else. She had a decision to make on if she was going to turn towards the noise or run off before she was bothered more. She had been encountering a lot of strange people recently, and frankly she wasn't sure if she wanted to put up with more of it or not. Taking a quick glance back at the person, the first thing she noticed was the lure. Feeling a bit rude staring at it, she glanced over the rest of their face. Well, she supposed she was interacting with them now.
"Yes?"

Kai stopped in front of the girl, frowning at her very short response. He hadn't expected the annoyed answer to him, and had to take a moment to compose himself before responding to the girl. Even then, his words were a bit more fumbled than he would have liked.
"Uhhh.....I wanna know about the Academy. I've heard of it. And you look like a...." He didn't want to say nerd. But that's what he was thinking. "Intellectual!"

Nemia was simply astounded by the audacity of this boy to come up to her so readily, and in a way she appreciated it. His straightforward attitude was something she wasn't used to in her time playing mental gymnastics, and so she hoped this conversation would at least be different than her usual interactions. She wanted to ask him about his lure, the appendage glowing and moving as he bobbed around.
"Yes I am an intellectual, but what do you want to know about me? Something specific or just random facts?"

Kai tapped his chin, looking over the girl. He hadn’t thought of what questions he might ask once he had gotten her attention, but now that she was here he couldn’t pass up the opportunity. He just needed to think quickly. Cooly. Anything to keep her attention on him. That should be easy though, he was a delight, and he knew people found him interesting to look at.
“Why yes, I do have some specific questions. Like how does one enter the Academy? Are you chosen? Do they send you a letter? Ohhh, maybe you are born for it?”

Nemia found that when speaking with outsiders, they always wanted to know about the Academy. They never wished to know anything besides that, nothing about her specifically. In some ways it frustrated her. Just because she kept near the Academy didn’t mean she was a spokesperson for it! Yes, it was amazing and everyone should want to get in, but still. She hated the same questions over and over. What was it like? What did they do there? All the same uninspired questions. At least the merchant boy had made interesting suggestions. Candy flavored vegetables and all.
“You are not automatically in. You have to be picked, if you must know.” Nevermind the fact she was still working on that portion. He didn’t need to know that. Unless he asked, then she would have to say something.

“Mmmm. So you aren’t in yet,” Kai observed, grinning as the girl appeared to get even more grumpy at his questions. He wondered if it was a choice of her own, or if she wasn’t good enough. He considered asking the question, but didn’t want to make her even more mad. If she was mad. Honestly it was hard to tell. “I’m Kai, nice to meet you, Miss scientist. Inventor? Whatever it is you are! Belrea sure is interesting and it is nice to meet someone who actually lives here after all. Do you think you’ll be able to get into this Academy?”

"I'm Nemia," she replied, pausing as she worried over offering up her name so easily. She'd done so with Ilistoh, but that was different, maybe. Or maybe it was because he had asked first and Kai was the third or fourth person she had interacted with in as many days. Nemia had to wonder why so many people were coming into Belrea recently. It was the best place around in her mind, but others didn't know that.
"And I am getting into the Academy. I just have to work harder. But what about you?"

Kai smiled, extending his hand out to the girl. It was only polite of course, especially considering he had sort of jumped out of nowhere to interrogate her. She was different than Alek in that regard. He hadn't been annoyed at him like this girl seemed to be, though she was warming a little bit. At least he thought so.
"I'm well...wandering? Exploring? Seeing everything I've never seen before. At least that's a goal. Belrea has been my first stop," he explained, looking a bit sheepish.

"So you have no actual goal other than wandering? That sounds horrid. You need more of a goal than that. Some sort of desire to improve or create? But you say you have nothing at all?" Nemia huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. She couldn't believe it at all. What an odd thing to not have a goal directing everything one did. She eyed the boy in front of her, unsure of how to assess him. He was high energy, but there didn't appear to be much....substance to his thoughts.

Kai rolled his eyes at Nemia, waiting for her to finish her ramblings of needing a goal before responding to her. In his mind he didn't need a goal, especially considering it could change at any time. He didn't think he would keep the same goal forever. That seemed boring.
"Your determination to have the same goal for the rest of your life sounds boring. I want to always be surprised with what I'm doing. I don't want a goal to prevent me from experiencing something that could be fun."

Nemia grumbled and crossed her arms over her chest, not really appreciating what Kai was saying to her. She didn't get his view, and wasn't sure if she really wanted to. That probably sounded terrible, but she liked her ideals and stuck to them. Kai on the other hand was someone she would probably never meet again so did his opinion really matter to her?
"We will just agree to disagree then. I think having a focused goal is very important."

Kai smiled a bit knowingly, amused that he got the exact response he expected from her. There was no reasoning with her, and honestly it wasn't fun for him any more. He had people he found much more interesting to speak to, and he didn't think they would ever see eye to eye on the matter.
"Well....I guess that's fair," he shrugged. "This conversation has been interesting and I've learned more about the area so thanks I guess! I'm going to leave you be."

Nemia laughed a little at his response, not surprised by the slightly negative vibe of it but not entirely put off to him after all. He was nice, this out of place boy, and while she was certain after his response she wasn't going to interact with him again she too had learned a few things.
"Well farewell then and be careful wandering around without a goal!" she responded, waving him off before turning and leaving as well.
