Human illnesses were....deeply annoying. Dagon had been ill before, of course, but not recently--and she had not expected what a disease that was apparently quite ordinary for a human (a "cold," it was called, apparently) would completely knock her down for weeks, feverish and shivering.

It had felt...terrifying. Dagon never wanted to feel that way again. It made her feel weak, and useless, and broken, and she was finally starting to feel better. She did not need that.

But she was well now, and she found her way to the place where she and Stirling had found each other more than a few times, and briefly powered down to send her a message on her civilian phone.

Quote:
Come meet me in the park? I've finally gotten back on my feet, and I wanted to check in with you.

These new forms of communication felt...strange, but she was adapting.

Stirling had been worried about Dagon, hearing about her cold was…mildly distressing and after some thought, she had gone to the corner pharmacy store, and purchased a box of Vitamin C boosters, wanting to keep it for whenever she saw the Senshi again.

It was so expensive though, and now she was flat out broke but…

If it helped Dagon to feel better, it was worth the cost.

When Brooklyn had received the message she gave a small smile and left her dorm once again, powering up into Stirling when she was far enough away to deem safe.

It was good to feel Dagon afterwards and she made her way over to her, hesitating for only a moment before she jumped at the woman, hugging her tightly. “How are you feeling? I’ve been worried about you, I got you some vitamin supplements, they’re supposed to help with colds and hopefully they’ll get you feeling better sooner!” The fact that she was a Squire now completely slipped her mind, she was far too worried about Dagon to care.

As soon as Stirling came running at her for a hug, Dagon opened her arms and pulled her in. It felt so good, to have this piece of her family again, and to know that she got to keep it, this time.

A new home, built on this new world, and a chance to live again, after a thousand years spent barely better than a ghost.

"Much better, now, but I'll be glad to take whatever Earth remedies you've brought," she said. There was, she realized, something different about Stirling--and she had to take a moment to think, before she realized.

"And look at you! An entire Squire! Show me your new weapon, will you?"

Laughing, Stirling nodded and summoned her dagger, her eyes glinting with what could only be described as pure joy. “I’m a little upset because it’ll be harder to shove it into people’s eyes, but the drama factor is top notch and it definitely fits my personality.”

What better weapon for her to have than a dagger? Sharp or not…it looked badass, and she wanted to be badass.

“I’m really proud of me for getting stronger too, I’m on par with my friends now so that makes me really happy…now I can keep up with them and they won’t keep thinking I’m weak…or…well. They won’t keep wanting to protect me so much, I don’t need it…and…now I can prove that to them!”

Dagon grinned, holding out a hand so that she might get a better look at the lovely little dagger the cosmos had gifted Stirling.

"Oh, this will take an eye out, I'm sure, if you use it right." There was prude in her voice, and admiration. It was good, that Stirling would be able to defend herself. That she had weapon--and likely magic--that she could use to make sure she and the people she cared about were safe.

"Ah, Stirling. I'm so proud of you, my heart. You're getting so strong." And there was so, so very much to be proud of. "I can give you some brief lessons on how to use that, if you'd like. When my people and I were fighting...makeshift and real knives were a favored weapon. Light to carry, easy to make, easy to hide, and capable of much damage. This...is blunted, yes? But I'm sure you can still do harm with it, if you need to."

“Oh yeah! I”m sure I can too, it’ll just take more force to get it to go into someone’s eye, and blunt force damage is honestly worse than just a clean cut when you think about it.” Stirling beamed at Dagon and tossed her hair back, looking terribly pleased with herself. “It is very blunted though, you’re not kidding. I couldn’t cut play-doh with this thing but…I’ll make due, I’m sure. And…Soleiyu mentioned that I should have magic now too but I haven’t had the chance to test that fact. I’m sure it’ll be good when I do need to test it, but i”m in no real rush…how are you?”

The smile faded a little and she looked up at Dagon with a worried expression. “Were you really badly sick? Did you have anyone to take care of you?”

Dagon laughed. "Ah, that's my girl," she said, warmly, reaching up and patting Stirling's cheek. "That's exactly how you should be thinking. Magic helps! But it isn't always a solution. Best to know how to work with your own hands and the tools you have."

There was a deep satisfaction, there. Stirling was growing up to be exactly the kind of Knight this world needed--unhesitatingly willing to, as they said, kick some a**.

"I was...sicker than I have been in along time." She sighed. "It happened to me when I traveled, sometimes, before. New places often have unfamiliar diseases. But I had some friends to look after me, so I wasn't alone."

The words made Stirling’s cheeks warm and made her feel…rather gooey inside, but, the feeling was gone quickly.

Dagon didn’t mean it literally. She was just proud in general. Stirling was just a friend that she had and she was proud of her accomplishments. There was nothing deep to be read in all of it. It was just. Being kind.

“Well I’m very glad that you’re better and that you had friends to look after you. I know for a fact that being sick and being alone is…the worst. Even more so when you don’t have any medicine or…you know. Food to eat really. Ah. Anyway. I just wanted to give you the things, they’ve been really helpful for me at school and my roommate swears by them…but, I should be heading back now…I hope that I get to see you again soon!”

She was running away again, that happy warmth turning to a sick, cold feeling in her chest.

Dagon had plenty of people to take care of her. Friends who wanted to take care of her, could take care of her.

She didn’t need Stirling’s help. Or Brooklyns.

With a forced, strained smile and a little wave, the Squire broke into a run and vanished into the night.
