1.) Those people who are good, and know they are good so they tend to flaunt it so they oversing... Or... DIVAS as we put it
2.) People who think they can hit high notes... Well, here's my philosophy on it... a lot of people can hit those high notes, but that doesn't mean they sound good on it...
3.) People who are in choir when they don't even care about the choir and just talk or do other things that do NOT contribute to the choir (yesterday, two girls got their handhelds taken away...)

So, what annoys you?

There's this one girl in my section who thinks she's awesome and sings over everyone else, so at concerts and in recordings she's the only soprano you can hear. My teacher has told her to back off SO many times. She's never gonna make it to chamber choir.

I don't have to worry about slackers 'cause my choir is audition only and everyone has worked hard to get there and would rather not get kicked out. My friend in treble choir always complains about the people who can't sing and don't "participate", and I just feel lucky I don't have to deal with them. Yup.

1) Well, I'm an alto and my friends little sister is a soprano 2 and everytime she comes over, she never forgets to remind me that shes in soprano 2 and she will always be better than me ,then starts singing all overly dramatic to a rock song. scream It drives me NUTS!

2)People who sing a little to dramatic.

3) And people who never learn the songs or put any effort to learn the song and then get to go and compete and they mess up the whole choir.

I get really tired of people who do well... all that stuff you other guys have named. But the one thing that really gets me mad is when someone sings over everyone else, doesn't listen to the director, thinks they're better than everyone else when they are not. I mean its a choir. It's a group not a bunch of individuals. Those people are such losers. xp

The choirs I am in are all audition choirs, and what really buggs me is that my choir teacher has allowed some annoying tone def people in.. and go figure, they think they can sing saprano. There is also a girl who sings Alto, thinks she is all mighty because she has a full scholarship to a music college, and tends to over sing. She also manages to oversing even when we are not sisnging at the moment wich really angers me. In one of my choirs that I am in every moment we are not singing they are talking and laughing and bugging the crap out of me because I cant listen to the director. ALSO, people who do not show up for extended audition because they have better things to do, even though we only get together for 15 minutes after and before school.

What annoys me, is when they don't let Freshmen be in good choirs. We weren't even allowed to audition for the Freshmen choir which is supposed to be auditioned, so there are sucky people in there. Some that can't even sing. *Sigh*

1) The fact that all the sopranos want to be first leaving 2 or 3 girls to be seconds. It's really hard to sing ones part with the blare of uber high notes all around you. We already have problems in our choir with balance and this fact is probably the leading cause.

2) People who are disrepectful to the teacher and disrupt our rehersal. I know that we as humans are sociable creatures and that talking does make things better. Normally I don't mind small chat during laid back rehersals; what can I do to stop it? But when we are getting ready for a compitition people just don't shut up. They also give the teacher lip and grief as if it's her fault that we can't get anything done. A little co-opperation at times like that goes a long way.

3) The fact that my choir teacher is always making shallow threats. I think one reason people do screw around in our choirs is because I teacher never follows through with her threas to kick someone out or send them to the office. The students know she won't do anything and so knowing that there will be no consiquince for their actions that screw around. I really wish that she'd start sending them to the office.

4) When certain persons get diva like attitudes even if they aren't very good. I can understand the more talented girls in our choir program who are divas because they CAN do it better than you. Still they tend not to flaunt it. It's the younger girls who think that jsut because they hit a shreaking high note once are all that. I very much dislike it when they start telling me what I am doing wrong. It's not that I can't take critisim, I enjoy it very much, it's just the way they let me know in that smug attitude. And the things they point out are well, they don't make much sense; ex. "You're opening your mouth to wide". The better to sing my dear, so I don't have that pinched girlie sounds like you.

5) This is just one of my pet peeves; singing the song with someone while they are performing. In my book that is the rudest thing you could do to someone because you are saying that you can do a better job than them. I know at times it can be hard not to sing if you really do like the song and don't mean any kind of disrespect, but just don't. You can sing it all you want later.

I agree with everything you've stated... It's the same here, too. Especially as it's a full credit class here at my school so people just want an easy 2 credits/year.

The only thing that is anywhere near different is this...

Because I'M the only Freshman Sop1 in my high school chorus group whee , and nobody envies me when they hear the part I have to sing. (At least, in my choir)

But in other things, like small groups, it's different. We sang Barbara Allen for Musical Theatre Large Group Speech, and the seconds NEVER learned their part (This was our only song in the entire Musical Theatre performance, and a VERY easy piece for every part) and so showtime comes and they decide HEY let's sing the sop1 part, because we know THAT one. And then the Altos couldn't get on for half the song, and sang Sop1 with me. (It was me in sop1, two sop2, two alto1 in my group.)
So we had no parts, and therefore no balance.

Well, Divas were my main annoyance in my high school choir. We were never sure if we were the Chamber Singers, or "May and Company". The other big annoyance was people who just didn't care. They would skip all of the time, they would talk all through rehearsal, they wouldn't learn their parts, it drove me nuts.

Now, my main annoyance is with the complete and utter lack of drive in my choir, and with my director for not pushing us harder. It is absolutely unacceptable in my view to not have the music that we were working on LAST SEPTEMBER memorized by now. We also have no blend, we're more a bunch of people singing together than a choir. The music program at my school is just starting to come back from the dead, our choir is only three years old, so I suppose we're really not doing too bad, all things considered, it's just really hard from going from the top, audition-only choir to... this. Don't get me wrong, it's still fun, just frusterating sometimes.

What annoys me?

1.)Well, you might say that since I'm in a freshman chorus, people constantly get in trouble for talking when we're trying to work. Most of these people are soprano's who think that they're good, but they really suck. They sit in the back and think they can get away with it.

2.)My director. Yes, she's good, but she sings over us, which sounds horrible because she can't sing at all. And she doesn't give us the music until about 2 weeks before the concert, and then yells at us at the concert before we perform because we don't know it when it's all her fault. She has some ridiculous rules too. Such as we can't put any sort of make-up on in class. Yes, I can understand like...lip-gloss, but she forbids lip balm too. What if we need it? If we have chapped lips, it hurts to sing. So that rule to me is just plain bullshit.

3.)This girl in the soprano section, and just about everybody else in that section. I say just about because I have a few friends in that section whom I love dearly. But this one girl just annoys everybody. She outsings the entire soprano section, and she can't sing well at all. She has to always think she's right, and I hate how just because they have the biggest section in my chorus, they think that they should always lead and s**t like that. It pisses me off. One time during a performance, at the last measure, we had to sing softly, and then get louder. The girl sang loud through the entire thing and made it sound horrible.

4.)The fact that none of my guys sing! I hate it! They think they have to be tough and manly, so they don't sing and it takes too long for us to learn the music because of them. And the only guy who does sing sucks really bad.

And that's what annoys me.

*Sigh* I love to sing, but our choir is awful. I don't mean we aren't good, we get plenty of compliments on our performances, but what bugs me is our director just doesn't care if we goof off. Kids are text messaging (cells aren't allowed at our school), beating each other up, talking and laughing in the middle of songs, etc., etc., etc. I wish our group was audition only. Most of the people there are just in it for the easy grade, so there's only about three people in each part who actually sing at our rehearsals.
Grr.

Ya, I'm totally annoyed by the people who just don't care... but if we have kids who really do not contribute AT ALL, our choir director will seriously kick them out. She's known as Malificent, and has Malificent pictures all in her office. lol. Of what I understand, when she's EXTREMELY mad, she pulls out her Malificent puppet... creepy, but she hasn't done that to us yet.

I'm annoyed with our alto section.... we have a great alto section... when they sing... They like NEVER sing loud enough... gah.

But about the diva thing. What annoys me is it's one of my friends nonetheless... and she's good. I know she's good, everyone knows she's good... and she knows she's good. So she flaunts like WAY out there. She does contribute to the choir a lot, but she still tends to flaunt it a lot. And it get's really annoying when she's sitting there in class and we're singing, and she's working on homework and not even watching our director! OMG that bugs me!! She's a great choir kid and she should know better!

A lot of our choir consists of people from choir since 7th grade, so you don't have to re-audition if you're already in choir, but those who aren't still have to audition. I almost wish she would just have us re-audition every year. And I wish our choir teacher was almost like the Norman North Director and just kicked out anyone who wasn't contributing.

NEW HATE TIME...

Okay. So contest for us is THIS FRIDAY.
My Sextet has NONE of their two songs memorized.
The other sop1 thinks it's stupid and is thinking of not coming. The sop2s don't know their part. Along with the altos. This seems familiar.

I hate freshmen**

And we lost our practice tape, so they no longer want to practice. Except for ONE of the altos. And me. And I have 6 other songs to do, memorize, sing well, and all.

It's like the absolute zero(kelvin) of effort. There is none.

**Don't get me wrong, freshmen can be good people. I AM A FRESHMAN. MMkay?
