xxx⍟PERSONALITY🛡xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx EASYGOING Just. A chill vibes dude. For the most part, Yak is pretty relaxed and casual, and takes things as they come. He’s frequently dramatic for amusement and entertainment, but serious when he needs to be. Yak is open and tolerant of people and perspectives and ways of doing things, and adapts pretty well to whatever happens. The world is a big place, yo. There’s room for everyone. Just roll with the waves and keep swimming.
RESPONSIBLE Yak doesn’t shy from responsibility or the limelight, but he doesn’t search for it either–unless it’s a chance to play for an audience. He follows orders or examples well– ever since Zack started at Hogwarts, Yak has tried to follow Zack’s example and be available to his siblings as The Older Brother and the Man of the House. As the squib of the family he’s home with Mum most often and considers it only natural he take on most of the housework compared to his siblings.
COMMITTEDYak has seen his mum with many folks over the years, and he knows his own father was just one of the names. People are flakey, and relationships fail. But because of this he also knows what commitment really looks like– He knows his mum will always be there for them, and he knows he always has his siblings. Especially after his siblings started going to Hogwarts, he’s recognized that they might not be there physically, but Yak can always be there emotionally via letter or call, and he’ll always be responsive. When he says he’s going to do something, he means it. Despite his cavalier attitude, Yak is a man of his word.
INSTINCTIVEYak is the more deceptively decisive of the twins. Deceptively decisive, because if he can’t decide, he’ll just roll a dice. He struggles with deep moral and emotional things, but at the end of the day, Yak can make a snap decision and live with it. He’s a good listener and empathetic ear, quick to understand what someone wants in a situation and communicating his and Yarrick’s plan. He struggles more with emotional things, wanting always to do the best for everyone. After all, Yak and Yarrick are the Dream Team– it’s not as simple as Yarrick’s the brains and Yak’s the face, but it also isn’t so complicated as to get worked up about. Whatever it is, they can handle it together.
IDEALISTIC Despite his cynicism at being a squib, Yak wants to believe in love and beauty and all these ideals of karmic justice. He’s a romantic at heart, and sees the world as a battle of ideals as much as it is a battle of messy human flaws. As closed off and down as he might get, Yak wants to believe, and he’d rather believe in goodness and get hurt than just assume people will be evil.
⍟🛡HOBBIES ■ Learning (and practicing) new instruments ■ Writing music ■ Running and hiking (→ Working out)
⍟LIKES ■ Most music– he switches it up every few months, but is pretty consistently an indie rock guy with some pop and folk mixed in. ■ Background noise. The gentle white noise of people working or chattering is very soothing, and very common at home. ■ Juice (and eventually alcoholic cocktails) ■ Roleplaying or storytelling where he can experience a story and try to dabble in different things ■ Escape rooms and puzzles, collaborative games.
🛡DISLIKES ■ Computers and electronics in general– some things are needed for sounds and music, but Yak kind of struggles with electronics and prefers magical means that he can manage when possible. ■ Muggle school–it has always felt so distant and weird and having to stay there instead of going to Hogwarts is adding insult to injury. Also homework is stupid. ■ People who preach good values with hurtful rhetoric ■ Light pollution is a special form of evil ■ Mushrooms
⍟STRENGTHS ■ Jack of All Trades, Master of Some– Yak picks things up quickly and is also building himself up to be particularly knowledgeable about music and fitness. ■ Reliable– Yak is responsible and straightforward, so if he says he can do it, he’s usually right.
🛡WEAKNESSES ■ Yak has a serious complex around being a squib and feels incompetent and disrespected no matter the comforts and reassurances. ■ Obsequious– Yak wants to be considerate and tries to be as diplomatic as possible, but sometimes he just bums himself out trying to make everyone happy while not being able to actually do what they (or he) wants.
⍟DREAMS ■ Make it big with a band with Yarrick. ■ Being in love. He hasn’t fallen in love yet, but he wonders what it’s like to love someone with complete and utter devotion. No flings, no drama. Just them. Yarrick is his twin and partner in life, but romantic, consummate love is something different.
🛡FEARS ■ Losing his ability to move or hear. ■ Yarrick and him not understanding each other. The twins have always had some kind of psychic understanding—it’s why no one ever questioned their magical natures. But since learning he’s a squib, Yak fears it was all in his head and he’ll lose that closeness with Yarrick.
xxx⍟BACKSTORY🛡xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ⍟🛡EARLY CHILDHOOD Yak Adraghserestine Knapp knows precious little about his father, aside from knowing that it was the same man as who fathered his twin, Yarrick, and a different man than who fathered any of his other siblings. Other than his mother, Yak looked up to Zack and listened to him. (Plus Zack was fun!)
When Yak was 6, Zack set fire to his room and the family had to move. Yak was a bit disappointed because he had been enjoying first grade, but since everyone was safe, it wasn’t worth getting upset about. One of the moving days, Yak started tap ping along on boxes while they were moving and it made little Xenobiologick and Wolfrik laugh. Yarrick blew into a cardboard tube, Yak kept going, and by the time their mum got back, the kids were having a whole concert out of makeshift equipment. While Yak and Yarrick loved music anyways, this was the start of makeshift concerts on the weekend and the twins’ dream of making it big as a band.
Not receiving his Hogwarts letter was a devastating blow. While initially the twins simply assumed there had been an owl mishap, they realized the truth of the matter as the summer grew on.
