Magical potions are a bit of a risk in Tendaji, believe it or not. It might be because most are used to working with natural items, or that many potions don't always have their intended effects. Some of the more dubious ones have been rumored to cause scales to grow, or blindness. So if you pass by someone in a back alley saying they have a potion to help you grow two feet taller, it's often better to look the other way.
Or is it?
What would you find if you looked over at what they had to sell? Is it really all that strange? Or maybe you'll find a fun hidden gem worth taking home.
[ What might you find someone selling if you approached a back-alley potion shop? Note: Potions that change appearance with growths are event-limited and may not be purchased/used from this prompt ]
Since the triplets had grown it was becoming harder and harder to find time to spend together. Although Zadia and Lioe shared an apartment, and by extension Isaia when he was in town, that didn't guarantee quality time. Zadia herself spent a great deal of her day conversing with customer's in the apothecary and the better part of her night tending to the various concoctions there within. It wasn't entirely uncommon for her to take naps on a small cot in the storage room nor was it strange for the young hybrid to freshen up in the adjacent powder room before opening shop for the day.
She enjoyed her work, even with it's inherent risks, but that didn't mean she missed her brothers any less. As much as she adored her younger sister there was a special bond between the triplets that couldn't be explained. So, when the opportunity arose for a nice meal, maybe a walk about and a night of catching up she'd jumped at it.
"I still can't believe you cut your hair, Isaia. I can't remember it ever being this short." Arm looped with Lioe's, Zadia looked over at the offending brother with a critical eye. "It makes you look older."

Walking with the two people he was most comfortable with in the world, Lioe laughed lightly as Zadia critiqued Isaia's hair. "He works on the airships like mom, and now his hair is similar. Should we be concerned?" he asked playfully.
Work wasn't exactly a busy place for him, but the number of employees was limited enough to keep him there most days. He didn't get much time with any of his family, really. Getting time with Zadia was hard enough, and forget trying to spend time with Isaia. Today was some sort of miracle that he wasn't about to turn down. He was grateful for the chance to check up with both of them at the same time. After all, they both had demanding and risky careers that made him worry.

Sadly, Isaia was largely to blame in the triplets' separation. Following their mom into airship work meant that a good bit of his life was spent living on board, and distressingly less of it was actually back home with his family. Every time he landed, it was a struggle to adjust to a normal sleep schedule... and, besides that, the life of an engineer meant he was more likely to spend his off time carousing, drinking at pubs with coworkers, or finding pretty faces to try to woo.
... But. Time with his siblings was one of those unexpectedly much needed things, and after Marcella... time together, all in one place, was rare.
"It's almost like... I am older?" Isaia returned, with snotty grin as he raked a hand through his short cropped hair. Then, Lioe gave his piece and Isaia gasped, reaching past Zadia to give him a shove. "Hey, whose side are you on? People actually like me on board."
... Okay, Isaia loved his mom, but she was a lot to handle, and being on board with her was enough to get side-eyes from most of the crew.
"What about you two? Zadia's all pink -- now we just gotta get little Lioe to do something with his hair, really rebel a bit, give dad a heart attack."

"Are they ill?" Zadia laughed and reached up to mess with Isaia's hair while he was vulnerable fussing over Lioe. The heels of her boots make audible clipping noises as she stood up, nearly jumping a bit in an effort to get it done before he could stop her!
"We could shave it on the sides and give him a mohawk. Maybe dye it green like that Vandrea girl you went on a date with." She grinned. Did Isaia know about that part? If he didn't then he was going to now! Zadia was happily grinning away when a shopfront caught her eye. The hybrid gave it a curious glance before frowning and halting their progression all together.
"You have got to be kidding me." She growled. It was another Apothecary! Less than a block from Fowler's no less! The front of the building was gilded which was strange for this part of town and it just looked...gross. Zadia curled her nose. She wouldn't have even noticed it was an Apothecary if she hadn't looked at the hand written sign on the door. Were they...were they trying to not be seen?
Oh, now she was really interested.

Lioe laughed along with the shove, moving just enough to give Isaia satisfaction while still remaining upright. "Yeah, like dad would notice if I did anything with my hair." One hand rose to almost self-consciously run his fingers through it. Like everything else that he was able to control in his life, it had changed very little over the years.
"Zadia.." He ducked his head down as his date was mentioned, bashful about his social life. It wasn't like that was going anywhere..
Ah, but then a delightfully timed change of subject! Something had caught his sister's ire, and he parted from the others for a closer look at the sign. "Cheeky buggers," he observed with a look over his shoulder. "You wanna check out the competition?"

Agh!! Isaia slapped at Zadia's hand, but his sister was faster - and besides, there was something a lot more interesting to focus on. "A Vandrea? My brother?" He turned his wide eyes to Lioe who looked appropriately flustered -
Y'know. Until both of his traitorous siblings spotted something more interesting. He looked between them, frowning, nudging at his brother. "C'mon, it's not that interesting, I wanna hear more about Lioe's girlfriend--"
But nope. They weren't gonna budge, were they? He was quiet for a moment, then heaved a sigh, crossing his arms. "Ugh. Fine - but after this I want the whole story."

"He would! If you rebelled his heart might stop." Even with their half-sisters in the mix there were far more trouble makers in the family than there were upstanding citizens. Anyone unfamiliar with their bloodline might think it was all Maritza's influence, but Zadia knew better; Uquin could be a menace when he wanted to be.
Zadia reached out to wave a hand at Isaia and ended up slapping his arm a few times instead. "We'll go out for drinks later and you'll know as much as I do - unless you want to come too, Lioe - but we have to go in." As tempting as it was to ride on the coattails of her brother's embarrassment Zadia's hackles had been raised. There was something about someone else being this close to her place of work that didn't settle well with her at all.
Especially knowing the kind of clientele she served.
Branching away from the two, Zadia took point and ascended a small set of steps toward the door. After a tentative turn, it swung open on creaking hinges and revealed a decidedly weird interior.
"We should have brought Marcella," She murmured and stepped walked in. While the sign clearly said 'apothecary' it looked more like an oddities shop to her. Shelves were lined with scraps of bone, strange clay figures and bottles with...half a rat inside? Why was the liquid pink?
"Ah, hello there!" Almost as if by magic, a strange Geian popped up from behind the shop's counter. His face was pointed in all the wrong spots with a chin that was too large and nearly non-existent teeth. When he stepped out from around the counter his body was hunched forward, thin limbs surrounding a pot belly that was barely contained in a button up top. "Welcome, welcome! See anything you like?"

Lioe felt his neck burn bashfully. "There's not any big story, and I'm not turning my hair green. Let's see what in here." He followed quickly on the heels of his sister with his head down to avoid any looks. Inside though, he had to take in the sight. "Looks more like a set in a play than a store," he observed with interest. It would make for an excellent setting in a book!
He gingerly picked up one of the bones, apparently the mandible of some creature judging by the row of teeth. The sudden greeting made him gasp with surprise and he fumbled the mandible briefly before quickly setting it back onto the counter. Jeez! "We're- we're, ah, just looking," he stuttered out. A curious storybook caretaker for a curious storybook shop...

This was a bad idea. This was the sort of shop that looked like it'd make you sick just by looking at something! Isaia wrinkled his nose as they stepped inside, eyes flicking suspiciously along the shelves, only cringing harder at every strange thing he saw. Zadia was right - this was absolutely a store Marcella would love, but the very thought of his tiny sister here made his hackles rise up.
It was bad enough seeing his other siblings in here, but at least they were more accustomed with this stuff.
And then the guy showed up, and no one had ever made Isaia feel this uncomfortable. His eyes dragged slowly across the various shelves, lip curling in a very Maritza-esque expression.
"What ah- is the purpose of this?" Isaia asked as he peered at what looked strangely like mummified limb of some kind.

"Nothing wrong with just looking." The caretaker smiled and brought his hands together with a little clap. He seemed to focus on Lioe a moment longer than the other two, as if he were about to latch onto that unease when Isaia's question caught his attention. His head turned before the man started to make his way closer.
"Why, it prevents illness! If you boil this in a large pot of soup or stew - whichever you prefer - it imbues the entire meal with restorative properties." Zadia could see the way his eyes moved over Isaia, as if taking stock of everything that made up her brother from a strange, quick glance, before smiling. "You seem the well traveled sort - surely you know first hand how hard it is being sick so far from home."
"Surely you won't mind me asking specifically how a mummified Hanaluke paw can help to cure a body of travel born illnesses?" The way Zadia phrased it was as condescending as her posture allowed. She briefly lifted a jar of some strange, gurgling blue liquid before setting it down with apparent disdain. "Especially when the creatures have never proven medicinally beneficial to the locals, let alone researchers?"
"Ah, what a keen eye you have, Miss!" He laughed it off, but there was tension behind that 'playful' attitude. "I must have gotten my concoctions mixed up. These old eyes aren't what they used to be. You'll have to forgive me."
"Of course," She gave a grin that seemed to only cause his own to drop.

Lioe kept his gaze firmly averted, listening to the conversation continue elsewhere. With a bit of relief, he moved down the shelf to check out a row of bottles. One glass was just clear enough to show it held something iridescent with the consistency of syrup and a thin layer of hooked thorns that had settled at the bottom. He opened his mouth to ask about it, but froze up and instead just returned the bottle to its place. He wasn't the best with social cues, but even he could tell the salesman was irritated with his sister's perceptive eye. Perhaps it was best to not touch anything else without her clearing it first.
Besides, the bottle next to that one was an opaque dark blue; and he was pretty sure he faintly saw something moving in it...

Well, if Isaia could protect his brother from this creepy shop keep, then he was doing his job as a brother right. ... Even if he really, really didn't like how the guy crept closer, like he'd literally jump on Isaia and chew his bones or something--
... At which point, Zadia rescued him, and Isaia let out a breathless 'Ha!' of laughter as she promptly destroyed the guy, identifying just what the twisted up thing in the jar was, and that it was confirmed hogwash!
"Well, I'm not prone to getting sick, so maybe it's for the best." Isaia responded with condescending happiness, slinging an arm around his sister's petite shoulders. "And even if I did, does this place have any customers who can vouch for it? There's an apothecary right down the street my dad uses all the time, that's the biggest seal of approval you can get, right?
... You know. It was his siblings', of course. But he wasn't about to say THAT.

Zadia crossed her arms and glared at the salesman. With Isaia's arm around her shoulders and Lioe close by she felt even more of a pull to stand up for herself. While she didn't think either of her brothers were fool enough to buy this garbage a part of her also wanted them to see her tear this man down from the inside out.
It was a vindictive, petty aspect of her personality, but Zadia's pride was strong.
"Ah, so that's it then. You're the little shop girl from Fowler's." He smile returned and it had a decidedly smug look to it. "Your boss may have taught you a few things, but I assure you that what I sell in this shop is legitimate." Looking between the three of them, the shopkeeper started to add similarities despite their unique looks and his smile only grew. "Siblings, then? And a father who uses Fowler's...My, my, I would wonder about his legitimacy. Quite the reputation that place has."
While Zadia didn't outright look at Lioe she did reach her hand out for his. This was the one secret she hadn't told Isaia yet, and while she gritted her teeth she didn't want him to know now.

Lioe's brow knit as the competition rose behind him, but kept his eyes on the shelves. The strange merchandise was quickly becoming less and less interesting... Coming in and challenging a guy in his own shop.. it just felt like they were asking for trouble.
Aaand there it was. Yet then his own head was spinning. Did their father know about the dealings in the shop his daughter worked at? He peeked back at his siblings briefly before he slipped over to give the back of Isaia's shirt a light tug and then took Zadia's hand. "Come on guys. He's not worth arguing with," he murmured with his eyes on the door.

Well. He might've overplayed his hand a little bit there, but that was the reason Isaia had stopped playing cards with the other engineers on the ship. Zadia didn't immediately smack him for giving too much information though, so he'd take it as a win. What he didn't enjoy was the way the shop keep became so smug, all of a sudden, and it was enough to make his expression darken as the man turned his now decidedly acidic words to his siblings.
As to what he was talking about... he only barely resisted the impulse to glance at his sister. No sense showing weakness, in front of their new enemy.
Isaia opened his mouth to argue, but the tug of his shirt shut him up, and instead he rolled his eyes, fighting not to glare. If he stared the man down, it would be as good as admitting they'd been stumped (which they had been, but he was as stubborn as his mother).
"We've got better places to be anyway. You can keep your weird mummy soup paw."
