Crossing Paths

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Tendaji may not be bustling like the cities of ages past, but that doesn't mean someone can live their life without encountering someone else who is a bit...different. What is the story of you meeting a person who is going in the opposite direction. Maybe they are traveling and you meet in a cross roads, or maybe they are settling down to start a family while you're getting ready to leave. Or possibly it's someone with such a different personality it's like oil and water. This is your chance to tell us that story and what happens when you cross paths.

[ This prompt is all about crossing paths - briefly and of characters who wouldn't normally find themselves interacting with each other. Explore what happens when two people who are going in opposite directions (figuratively or literally) find themselves briefly encountering one another. We would like to see strangers meet on this one, so take some time to bring your characters out of their comfort zones. ]

[Sathe 1]

Sathe grabbed another shirt from the pile and shook it out in the dry heat of Tale. The family had just returned from traveling and it was time to wash what had been packed away. She hummed a tune to herself while she hung the wet clothes on the line. It was meditative in a way. The kids were getting older and while she didn’t have to do their laundry as much anymore she still offered to do everyone’s when they got back from a trip.

It made for a full day of washing and hanging and folding but it was peaceful as long as the weather held. Something she could pretty much always count on in Tale.

[Amoe 1]

Amoe pulled her pack farther onto her shoulder and held a hand over her eyes, looking to see if there was any semblance of hospitable land in front of her. Why she had thought to continue on to Tale after her disaster of a trip in Oba was beyond her. She could claim ignorance, but she knew what she was getting into. Someone had told her that Tale was hot and dry, with plains and plains of sand with pockets of forest. But she thought she knew better.

Wow she was dumb.

But she was entering forest and hoped that she could find any sign of life. She was almost out of supplies. She had been traveling with Varren for most of her stay in Tendaji, but the Oban had to return home and she would be damned if she was going back to that place without a fight.

She rubbed her eyes, thinking maybe she was seeing things before she realized what it was she was looking at. A person. She waved her arm over her head and called out, but she was still pretty far away. She wasn’t sure the other being could see her.

[Sathe 2]

Sathe squinted her eyes at the figure in the distance. It looked like it could be a ghost it was so pale, but it was waving at her all the same.

Curious, she waved back and gestured them over with her hand. She fanned out the last of the blankets she was hanging and hung it on the line before wiping her hands on her shirt to smooth herself out. It was such an interesting thing, they didn’t get many visitors to their home in Tale.

[Amoe 2]

The person waved back! Amoe jostled her things into a steadier hold and jogged to close the distance between herself and the person. It was a woman, she could see that now. An earthling woman. With unusual colorings, but Amoe didn’t know enough about the people farther north in Tendaji to know if it was actually unusual or just something she hadn’t seen before.

”Hello there!” Amoe called out, now within speaking distance from the earthling. She was small, even smaller than she was used to. A very short earthling for sure. ”How are you? I don’t mean to be so forward but can I ask for some help?” Amoe asked the earthling. ”I’m Amoe.”

[Sathe 3]

Sathe smiled to the Kahikinan, ”A pleasure to meet you.” She answered. The woman in front of her was tall, so very tall. She had never met a Kahikinan before, she didn’t even really know what to expect from them. She was so pale. Silver skin, white hair, and blue eyes. The only thing that offered much color to her was the ends of her hair and her curious markings. ”I’m well, thank you for asking. You seem to be far from home, what do you need help with?” Sathe was an experienced healer, if it was something along those lines she doubted she would have any problems offering her services.

”Are you injured? Do you need a salve?” She offered, looking the tall woman over to see if there was blood anywhere.

[Amoe 3]

Amoe was pleasantly surprised that this woman was so friendly, though she did realize that she didn’t offer a name. Was she cautious? It was a passing thought and didn’t stick around too long. ”No, no injuries.” Amoe rubbed her head with a laugh. ”I didn’t think I would be going this long without seeing a town. I’m running low on… well, just about everything.” She answered the woman.

[Sathe 4]

Sathe nodded her head, stopping her search for an injury. So it was supplies she was looking for. ”Well I’m glad to hear you’re not needing a healer.” She smiled serenely to Amoe before turning toward her home door. ”Follow me, I can see if we have anything to spare.” Sathe offered. ”I’m Sathe by the by. Have you been in Tale long?”

Sathe lived in one of the first villages east of Jauhar, but that didn’t mean that Amoe had come from that direction. For all she knew the poor woman was lost and wandering in circles having come from Sauti.

[Amoe 4]

Sathe. It was an interesting name. These earthlings sure didn’t bother using anything even similar to Kahikinan naming structures. Amoe wasn’t sure she could pronounce the names that were given to her half of the time. It was a little twinge of home sickness, but all in all she was finding life in Tendaji just fascinating. ”No, I’m just passing through, I’m trying to catch an airship to… Belrea.” She was hoping she got the right name this time. Varren had told her about it before they had parted ways. He also told her about Zena but she thought she might hate the eternal cold more than she hated dry heat.

”This is great by the way, you’re incredibly kind.” She entered the earthling’s home and took a look around. The whole thing smelled of herbs and spices and she could see why. There were drying plants hanging from almost every portion of the ceiling and potted plants all over the place. ”Do you live here alone?” She asked of Sathe.

[Sathe 5]

Sathe wandered into the kitchen and looked over her shoulder at Amoe while she reached into a cabinet. "Oh no, my family is just out for the moment. We just got back from a trip around Tendaji ourselves. You'll have to excuse me if I don't have everything you may need. We need to go to the market and restock after being away so long." She rustled through the cabinets and bins around the kitchen until she pulled an armful of things to give to the stranger.

"I have some dried food here, and some fresh fruits and vegetables. Some matches for fires... was there anything in particular you were looking for? I have fresh rain water out back we can fill up any canteens you have." Sathe offered to the woman.

[Amoe 5]

Amoe blinked wide-eyed at the generosity of the woman. They were just strangers and she was willing to give her so much. "Well that's great! Mostly I would love some water, but thank you! I didn't expect to get so much. You say there's a market? Are we close? I can go there next instead of inconveniencing you and taking all of your stock." Amoe wouldn't refuse the food and water, but she didn't want to put this nice family in a bad position either. "Have you lived in Tale long? I don't mean to be too forward but I don't know what Talean earthlings are supposed to look like. You look like you have shifter hair." Amoe pointed out what she had been thinking since she had gotten closer. Sathe didn't look fully one thing or another.

[Sathe 6]

Sathe gently placed her armful of supplies on the kitchen table and pulled her braid over her shoulder as Amoe mentioned shifters. "Well you have good eyes." Sathe laughed at her slight joke. "My mother was a shifter, my father is a leaf earthling. I've lived in Tale my entire life, but I do have some of my mother's looks."

"If you want to pack up your things I'll take you to the back where the water is. The market is only a little ways through the forest, I'm sure you'll be able to find it just fine. I'll give you directions." She offered.

[Amoe 6]

Amoe felt a little heat on her cheeks when Sathe laughed. Was she making fun of her? Was that sarcasm? She shook it off though, the woman seemed sweet enough and Amoe was just a fish out of water.

She grabbed all of the things off of the table and headed to the back with Sathe. The back of the house was just as off as the inside had been. There were herbs, plants, a little pond, all the work back here was astounding and not like the Tale she had been used to. Sathe had said she was a healer... it had to be magical. Maybe. Who knew here? Not Amoe, that's for sure.

"That would be great! I'll be sure to pay you back, too."

[Sathe 7]

"Oh, no. Don't feel like you're obligated at all. It's my pleasure to help you out." Sathe offered her hands out to take the water containers that Amoe had and filled them in the barrels of rainwater against the back of the house.

"If you follow this road," Sathe pointed to the dirt road to the side of the house, "You'll come to a fork in the road. Go right and you'll reach the market. It's about an hour's walk." She handed the watering containers back and rested her hands on her hips.

[Amoe 7]

Amoe handed over the empty containers and received them both back full to the top, listening to Sathe's explanation. It was a good thing Amoe was good at directions to begin with, and a good thing this round was so simple. "Listen, if you ever need anything from me and I'm around, I'm good for it. Thanks again!"

Amoe put the containers away in her bags and jogged to the road Sathe had pointed out to her. "Anything, I mean it!" She pointed back at Sathe and waved a hand goodbye. She didn't know when she would be back in Tale again, but she owed Sathe and planned to keep her word if she ever showed back in her life again.
