It was difficult to get up the nerves to talk to an adult about questions…especially when she didn’t know which adult that she wanted to trust with these questions. You couldn’t exactly go up to someone who wasn’t involved in this and be like, hey a really nice fish woman says that we can be family because I’ve got the soul of her sister or…whatever.

…That wouldn’t get her thrown into Juvie, it would get her thrown somewhere far worse.

So that just meant she had to pick which adult she was going to talk to, and honestly, it seemed like maybe one of Atticus’ dads would be the best bet…after all, they had adopted him and knew what that would be like…and they were both powered and…might not look at her like she was crazy if she brought up the whole…blue fish alien lady…

s**t.

The feeling of an aura that made her skin crawl didn’t do anything to help this internal turmoil, and Stirling turned her head, grimacing slightly as she looked towards where she felt it, wondering if it was the same one she had met before or…

s**t.

Breaking into a quick run, Stirling crossed the distance between herself and the Negaverse person, half hoping that it was the blonde from before, but hesitating when…well. When it definitely was not.

Her grip on her hair pin tightened, and her hand curled into a fist as she made the split second decision to attack. Because.

It had worked so well the last time.

To say that Lilith was having a lot of feelings was to rather gratuitously understate the situation. Ever since she had witnessed her team turn on that poor Dark Mirror--who hadn't done jackshit, as far as she could tell, and certainly not anything that meant that he should have gotten so utterly...piled on by the very, thoroughly dramatic members of her team.

It had put a certain...fear in her. A fear that had not left her.

The fear of what if I'm next.

What if the next person they turned on for some mistake was her. There would clearly need to be very little in the way of evidence, and her...relationship with Keiko might be enough to send the hounds nipping at her heels.

The idea made her feel sick, and it felt more and more like a likely possibility. And....she could cut things off with Keiko, certainly. But that did not change that she was on a team of unstable, ravening hounds, and that she would always be afraid of their bite.

Lilith had joined Faustite because she respected him. That hadn't changed. And it wasn't that she feared any team member individually--but she feared what they became together.

So perhaps it was time to consider exit strategies. Whatever that might mean.

She was startled from her contemplation, though, by being--well. By being <******** assaulted.

She turned at the sound of someone approaching, just in time for a fist to impact her face.

"Ow! What the hell! That's gonna take so much makeup to cover up--" Her magic came to hand easily and instantly, and she threw a punch back, and hoped that the sudden sensation of drowning would be enough to get this very annoying child to back the hell off.

Lilith was not eager to fight tonight. But if she had to, she certainly would.

Quote:
Lilith speaks the name of her attack and gestures at herself. She appears soaking wet and her footsteps sound like hoofbeats for the duration of the attack. For the next 30 seconds, anyone who makes any kind of direct physical contact with Lilith will feel, for the remaining duration of the attack, as if they are drowning. It is possible to struggle and as they are not actually drowning no real damage is done and it is impossible to actually die from it. Lilith can use this attack three times per battle.

Stirling paused at the mention of makeup and she wanted to ask what kind the older woman used, but, no. Not the time, not the place. Her attack had landed though so…that was a good thing. Her punches were getting better, she was getting better at aiming...that was progress.

Progress that she needed. Progress that she desperately needed.

But then.

Then there was magic being cast and the fact that she still had contact with this…this witch....

She couldn't breathe. Stirling couldn’t breathe and there was water filling her lungs and nose and…

Oh god. She couldn’t breathe.

Her eyes widened in panic and she drew away, shuddering and grasping her throat, fear and horror in her expression.

She was going to die here? Nobody would even know, nobody would even care...and she was going to die here…and
No…no that.

Wasn’t fair.

Stirling didn’t want to die…but…she couldn’t breathe, and tears began to pour from her eyes. Tears of frustration, panic and deepest fear.

It was obvious, on a better look, that this was a child. Much younger than Lilith--she had a baby face, and she was also clearly thoroughly terrified. Which meant Lilith's magic was working, and it also meant that she had a chance to escape.

A better, nicer person might have stayed to make sure that the girl wasn't actually suffering. Might have reassured her that it would be okay, that it was just magic and she wasn't actually dying. But, well. Lilith had never pretended to be a good person. And staying behind might mean getting attacked again in retaliation, if the kid didn't actually respond well to her trying to help.

Plus, the brat had punched her in the face first. This was honestly just fair play, and it wasn't like she'd take any real damage unless she did something very stupid.

So Lilith turned tail and ran, and did not look back. She could think about whatever she wanted more privately--maybe, in fact, she'd be better served going home and playing some games offstream if she wanted to ponder life, the universe, and everything--or, well. At least ponder whether or not she wanted to stay in the Negaverse.

At least the witch had gone, and Stirling felt like she could begin to breathe again, but she was trembling.

That…was not a fun sensation. Drowning was not. Not something she ever cared to experience again…it.

Shuddering, she pushed the thoughts away of the Children’s Home and shook her head fiercely. No. She wouldn’t think about it. Couldn’t think about it. She wasn’t that weak little kid anymore, and hadn’t been in a long time. She was strong but…

Oh she had to get out of here. Had to go somewhere. Had to be alone had to just…

Just.

Her breathing had sped up and Stirling tried to get it under control before she began sobbing again. Before her carefully built walls began to crumble and she became a weak, pathetic loser.

Words filled her mind and she was confused for a moment, but…there was comfort in them.

And in a soft, trembling voice she repeated them. “I pledge my life and loyalty to Lysithea, and to Stirling. I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine.”

And the next moment, she was gone.
