Ersa ran towards the other Senshi’s aura, utterly certain that it was going to be her cousin, and that she would get all of this explained and then they would go back up to Ersa and simply fix things.

She was so certain of all of it, that when she got close, she closed her eyes and simply flung herself at the Senshi, hugging them tightly. “Lysithea!” Her word was half a whine, half a sob and she buried her face against the Senshi’s chest, feeling everything just break.

There had been a lot of pent up stress that Ersa hadn’t realized or noticed or…or whatever and now. Now it was pouring out like flooded river.

“Oh Lysithea! What is this place? Why are we here? What’s going on, where’s mom and what happened up on Ersa? How long were you gone for?”

The words were spoken quickly and the tears were falling from the young Senshi’s eyes even more quickly, though she finally looked up, needing to be reassured by her cousin’s face and smile…and.

And it wasn’t Lysithea at all.

For a moment, Ersa could do nothing but gape, her tears forgotten as she took in the blonde hair and pretty face of the Senshi before her…and after a moment she drew away, frowning. “...Who…who are you? Is this…is this your world? I…I don’t mean to be rude...but why is it all dead? Where’s Lysithea?” Rational questions, if not easy ones…Ersa’s mind was slowly beginning to catch up to the situation, but…it was still quite foggy.

Ganymede didn’t flinch away from the Senshi that practically launched themselves at her. Even if she hadn’t gotten a good look at the girl, her aura was unthreatening and free of Chaos. She seemed young, and scared. She mentioned Lysithea.

An apology and a correction were on the tip of Ganymede’s tongue when the flood of questions began. She almost missed some of them, caught off guard despite the fact that she’d been able to sense the Senshi’s approach. Ganymede grew tense even as she put comforting hands on the girl’s shoulders.

The way the girl spoke… the things she asked...

If Ganymede hadn’t already known Senshi from space, the oddity of her questions probably wouldn’t have registered. Since she did, suspicion that this girl might be another one immediately took root.

“I’m Ganymede,” she said calmly. Ganymede let the girl draw away, but she also gave no indication that she wanted the girl out of her personal space. The girl was clearly distressed. She needed comfort and guidance. “This is Earth. It’s… It isn’t dead, it’s just winter here.”

She almost asked about Lysithea, but if her suspicions about this girl were correct, the Lysithea she knew wouldn’t be the one this girl was asking for.

Ganymede held back a wince.

“Are you alright?” she asked instead. “Are you lost?”

For a moment, Ersa looked at Ganymede, her face screwing up in some confusion as she took in the Senshi’s appearance, and finally she shook her head. “My mother says that Ganymede is a boy, and you’re…not a boy…so who are you really?”

Her eyes roamed around the place that they were at, and her tail twitched in some agitation, the only tell that she was worried. “...I’ve never been to Earth…why am…I mean, why was I brought to Earth…I am supposed to save Ersa. There is something wrong and they put me to sleep so that I would be safe…I don’t understand.”

Ersa’s tail twitched again, as did the ears perched on the top of her head.

Something was wrong. She was on some dead planet…with someone who was impersonating one of the Jovian Moons…was this…was this the bad thing that everyone had been so worried about? Was…but no. There were no colors like this on Ersa that she had seen…and no trees that had ever looked like this either…

“...I don’t understand.”

Ganymede couldn’t hold back a short burst of good natured laughter. “I am Ganymede. My people liked to think otherwise, but they couldn’t exactly control who ended up with my starseed. They could claim Sailor Ganymede was always a boy as much as they wanted, that didn’t make it true.”

That seemed to prove her theory, though. This girl — Ersa — was not from here.

Well… Ganymede supposed Ersa’s mother could’ve been someone she encountered when she was new and less sure of who she was, but that didn’t hold up once the questions about Earth were taken into consideration. The ears and tail were also clearly not part of Ersa’s clothing; they were part of her.

Ganymede kept a small, comforting smile on her face, but she couldn’t entirely shed her sadness.

“It’s—” Alright, she wanted to say, but she knew that probably wasn’t true. “You’ve been asleep for a long time. It must’ve been some sort of stasis, I assume. It’s been… a thousand years or so… since my starseed belonged to the Ganymede your mother probably told you about.”

Ganymede’s smile faltered. There was no delicate way to tell someone they’d lost out on a thousand years worth of time, and most of the people they’d known were likely long gone.

Ersa shrank a little at the laughter, but then seemed to brighten again, giving a rather nervous, very confused laugh of her own. It only seemed fitting, after all. Ganymede was laughing, so she should laugh too. It was just…how things were done. “Ah…yeah um…mom said that I was going to meet you soon but…”

The rest of the senshi’s words began to penetrate into Ersa’s mind and she frowned, brows furrowing behind her glasses. “...A thousand years? But…why would I have been sleeping for a thousand years? They said it would just be for a little while, and that Lysithea would come to help, and everything would be better but…” Swallowing, Ersa shook her head. “...Lysithea was going to come to help…why…could it have been a thousand years? I’m not even sure that I can…”

If that was the case, then everyone she knew, everyone she loved was…well…they were gone, weren’t they?

If it had really been so long…of course they would be gone.

For a moment, Ersa wasn’t sure what to think, how to feel. “...What…what do I do now?” Her voice was small when the question was asked…but…Ganymede would know. A fellow Jovian. Someone who clearly knew something...a lot of somethings.

Ganymede would help…Ganymede was the only one that could help.

“I’m sorry,” Ganymede said, gentle, as comforting as she could possibly be under the circumstances, though she had a feeling nothing would offer much comfort in the face of so much loss.

How many more Senshi were out there, awake and aware like Alastor, or asleep and completely oblivious to the death and destruction around them, like Ersa, like Ymir?

“I don’t know how it happened, or why you’re here now,” she admitted. “I wish I could help you make sense of it. I wish I could change things, make it so it never happened. Lysithea…”

The one Ersa knew was gone. Ganymede could introduce them, and they probably wouldn’t recognize each other, unless Lysithea had some memories of the past. It seemed almost cruel to give Ersa that hope when she hadn’t even had time to come to terms with her circumstances.

But Ganymede would feel equally guilty keeping them away from one another for long.

“A lot of us have been reborn here, on Earth. Senshi, and Knights. Our worlds couldn’t sustain life, and Earth has been the only safe place for us, but there’s Chaos here, too.”

Ersa seemed so young — not a child, but close.

“You’ll need a place to stay,” Ganymede continued. “I can help. My husband and I have a few properties. There’s one near us. You’ll be warm, and comfortable. I can introduce you to other Senshi who’re in a similar situation. They might be able to explain it better than I can. I know of one who was in stasis. I can introduce you to a Mauvian, too. She’ll be able to help you with a way to travel to and from Ersa.”

Nodding slowly, Ersa kept her gaze down, unsure of what to think or feel. The entire world had just been utterly shattered…and Ganymede didn’t have any answers and…oh.

“Do you know Lysithea? Is she here? I…you…thank you…”

Ganymede hadn’t seemed to want to talk about Lysithea so that must mean it was something bad...she should.

…She should take what she was being offered and be grateful for it. “I…would appreciate that, Ganymede…thank you…I hope that I’m not going to be too much of a burden…” Folding her arms in front of her, Ersa bowed to the other Senshi, as she would have if it was a formal introduction back home…

…Back home that didn’t exist any longer…

“...I…would like that…but. I don’t think I feel very well right now…this…this is very…different than what I expected when I woke up again…”

Ganymede returned Ersa’s bow with a sympathetic smile.

“I know this must be overwhelming for you. I can’t even imagine…”

The memories were bad enough. Experiencing it first hand, going to sleep, and then waking up in a different time — that was something else entirely. Ganymede wished she knew the right thing to say. What could she possibly do to offer comfort? Nothing would change Ersa’s circumstances. Even if her world was saved, the people she’d known would never come back.

All Ganymede could do was help her adjust, give her shelter and kindness.

“I won’t say you’ll be alright, because I can’t guarantee that. But you’re safe with me,” she said, guiding Ersa closer, putting a comforting hand along her back. “We’ll get you settled. Maybe get something to eat. Some warm tea, or hot chocolate.”

Ersa wasn’t as young as Ganymede’s children, but in her sadness and loneliness, Ganymede thought she might like some of the same sort of comfort.

“I can—... I don’t want to get your hopes up about Lysithea. She’s not the one you knew. It may not be easy to come to terms with that. But I can put you in touch with her when you’re ready.”

Ersa wanted to ask. Wanted to ask what Ganymede meant by Lysithea being different…it…it was something she had to know because…Lysithea was family...real family and…

Did Ganymede mean that Lysithea wouldn’t like her? That this one was mean? That she was cruel and awful?

The noise that escaped the Senshi was pathetic and she nodded. “I…thank you…I…I’d like that…I don’t…want to…yes please. I want…yes please.”

Whatever Ganymede thought best. Ersa would go and do it. This wasn’t her world, after all…

Would never be her world. Her world was dead and gone and…

Biting her lip hard, Ersa managed to keep from crying out in despair but just nodded at Ganymede. “I’m…ready to go wherever you lead.”
