Runes or The Elder Futhark is the more modern version of the ancient version of the same thing. Runes are traditionally thrown out of a bag or a handful is grabbed and then thrown. The position of the runes matters quite a bit. If they cross another rune if they are upright or upside down or on their side. It all matters quite a bit.
