Name: Devereux Baenreabban
Race: 1/2 Leaf 1/2 Yaeli
Gender: Male
3 Base Traits: Deceitful, Self-indulgent, Loyal
Personality:
Devereux is a lying trickster who never hesitates to spin the story into whatever best suits his objectives. He presents himself as a confident young man; brash, even, with a love of chaos. The young hybrid loves disrupting the security of his 'familial' home and watching others panic to bring the status quo to rights. So many have written him off as little more than a wretch, a waste of a good blood line, because of his actions but he's used it to his advantage. Devereux's mind is a sharp as whip and just as harsh.
There is little more Devereux loves more than a good party. A night out to unwind after days and days of tense interactions in a house that has never heard of 'love' leaves him ready for any moment he can let loose. Dancing, carousing; he adores it all! The Baenreabban's worry that he'll become nothing more than a hedonistic adult who will leave a further stain on the family name, but facts are that he needs this just to survive them. At least, that's how he sells it.
Devereux is fiercely loyal to those in his inner circle. Since it's so small he holds on as tightly as he can and will fight with everything he has to keep them safe. He's lied before to deflect fault away from them (his mother, mostly) and even taken punishments meant for others because he kept pushing situations just to get a rise.

History: Salvatore Baenreabban was the third son in a prominent family and was treated as such. He knew responsibility and social protocols well, though he didn't seem as keen to follow them as his older brothers. With the family seemingly secure Salvatore took his business sense to Yael to start fresh, away from the keen eye of the Baenreabban's, and it was there he met his wife.
The Baenreabban's are a family whose wealth was curated by their dealings in the exotic animal trade. While some were raised as mounts, most were specifically bred and taken in to appease their elite clientele. Salvatore's work in Yael was no exception. He brought with him a variety of species most yaeli at the time had never seen and as such gathered quite a few local breeds to send back home to Tale.
Over the years Salvatore had taken many to bed, but it was in his middle age that he decided to take a wife nearly half his age. Salvatore had nothing to gain by taking Nephele as a wife. She had little in the way of coin, less in formal education, but what she lacked she made up in spirit. She was seen as a play thing by his family and little more; a distraction to keep Salvatore company while his elder brothers did their best to keep his adventures in Yael away from public scrutiny.
Then tragedy struck and situations changed.
Salvatore's eldest brother, and his family, burned alive in a house fire. It was unclear at the time whether it was an accident or an act of arson, but the line of succession went to his second oldest brother. Care of the family was secured for another three years, in which time Nephele gave birth to a son, and that brother too met an untimely end. An illness, they said; one that passed through his house as swift as a plague. Except...no one else in the village caught it and the family had been well just days before.
When word came from his father that Salvatore was to return immediately with his family he was rightfully hesitant (or so he appeared). In Nephele's eyes it was a sign from the Gods that their work was cursed, but Salvatore pushed aside her concerns. They would inherit a lifetime's worth of riches if they went back, and so would their son, Devereux. Why would she want to keep him from that? So, begrudgingly, Nephele agreed. If someone had tried to murder his brothers then surely they wouldn't come after Salvatore. After all, he'd been in Yael for years; what would he have to do with anything back in Tale?
By the time Devereux settled in Tale he was ten years old. The young hybrid was just old enough to remember Yael, but impressionable enough to grow accustomed to Tale. The extended family, his own grandparents especially, viewed him as worthless. His grandfather pressed Salvatore often over the years to be rid of Nephele and her son; that he had plenty of time left to make a true heir. Devereux himself took to the treatment as one would have expected; with a bitter rebellion. He hated Tale, hated his 'family' and the name that shackled him.
Overtime it became obvious that Salvatore was falling back into old habits. He spent less and less time with his wife in favor of those in the circles the Baenraebbans had held for years. At first Nephele fought against it, but when it became clear that outside influences were causing her own husband's affections to shift she stopped. Salvatore would urge Nephele to keep Devereux away if the family was there and started to only show any semblance of 'love' to them behind closed doors.
As he grew Devereux became more and more aware of his situation. The newness of his parent's marriage didn't last for long, and soon enough his father was seeking affections elsewhere. Nephele spent all of her time at home, saying her prayers to the Yaeli gods she'd been raised to believe, and teaching the same to her son. Seeing her suffer under Salvatore's neglect was hard, but Nephele did her best to keep a smile up for him.
As such Devereux became a master at hiding his true emotions. He keeps a near constant smile on his face, if for no other reason than to get under his father's skin, and does his best to get at others before they trick him. In his eyes Nephele was deceived by Salvatore like one of his pets and one day he plans on taking her back to Yael where she belongs.
Not before he ruins his father, though.
