Winter was the harshest season, and since Pendour loved plants more than she loved just about anything else, it was hard for her to appreciate the time of year where so little could grow. She did have nothing but respect for the plants that could stay strong when temperatures dropped cold as cold. As she made her way through the city, she often whispered hellos to the tall spruce, and the laurels, and the hellebores in the corners of garden plots, and the evergreen ivy. She was preoccupied lately, with everything that was going on with Faustite, so she didn't talk to those familiar friends so much. Instead, she tried to cover the entire city every single night, to walk as fast as possible and make sure that the man of fire didn't kill anyone else. It took something special to catch her attention. It took witch hazel. It took flowers in winter. She skidded to a stop in the middle of the park that she had tried using as a shortcut. She stared at the bush, her eyes soft. "Oh," she whispered. "You're beautiful. Lovely. I don't see plants like you so often. Hello." She didn't even notice the Page's aura getting closer.

Arges shivered and pulled his fluffy collared coat closer around himself. If this fantastical outfit was good for one thing, it was keeping the cold at bay. Still, the brightly colored uniform would attract too much attention, so anytime he would patrol within the city, it would be under the cover of night. Okay look, he didn’t hate the outfit that much; he just didn’t like people to look at him… in or out of Page-mode. Anyway, he was casually strolling through a park, eyes lazily scanning the area. There were not many people out here this time of night, and the frosty weather kept more people in their homes than usual. That’s why he was surprised to come across somebody kneeling in the cold dirt. The Page clocked the colorful outfit and the magical aura, very similar to his own yet much stronger. And she was talking to some… plants? They looked like normal plants anyway. Nothing dangerous. Don’t get him wrong, he talks to his plants at home all the time, but he can attest that those are very normal and safe plants. All this magic stuff is making me think too much…“Um hello,” he started. It almost sounded like a question, a nervous lilt to his voice. Arges didn’t want to interrupt whatever was happening, but… “Woah, it’s really a miracle any flower can bloom in this weather,” he continued, tone changing quickly to curiosity as he shuffled closer to take a look.

"Witch hazel," said Pendour without turning around. Plants were things she could always talk about, easy as anything. "It's a native species, actually, and it keeps some of its flowers through the winter, but you don't see it in gardens so much. I'm glad I found this one." She ran a single finger, gentle as could be, across a fragile looking stem, her eyes soft. Then, she turned. Well, she half turned. She had a habit, still, of trying to turn away the scarred half of her face when she first met people so they didn't fixate on it, or offer rude comments. It was a useless habit when her scars were pockmarked, too, now, in a way she couldn't really hide, but she held herself at an awkward angle all the same. "Oh, and, um, hi," she said anyway, glancing over his outfit with her good eye. "We haven't met, right?" The only Jupiter knight she'd really talked to was Sess, so she didn't think so, but she was glad to meet another. "My name is Pendour. You can talk to me, I don't think I'm, um, scary?" She saw the way he was hesitating and hoped she wasn't doing anything intimidating.

The Page turned to her fully, though he still looked a little hesitant around a stranger. He seemed just as awkward as her. “Hi, uh, my names Arges,” he replied, tipping his head slightly in greeting. “We haven’t met before, but I don’t think you’re scary. Should I think your scary?” He continued timidly. He assessed any danger the fellow knight could pose and found none, only a strong aura that was oddly calming like the ocean. “Sorry, are you like me? All… magic-y and stuff? I’m super new to this,” he quickly added.

"Oh, um, you're not supposed to be scared," she said, and something about the way he was asking made her soften a little, some of the tension she usually felt when she met someone new dropping out of her shoulders. "Sometimes it just startles people, the, um-" She turned to look at him all the way, and waved a hand at the scars on her face, at the scars on her arms. "I'm magic, yes," she added, because they didn't need to dwell on all that. If this one was so new that he couldn't even tell that she was Knight, then it was no wonder he was nervous. Maybe they could talk about that, and he'd walk away not feeling quite so overwhelmed. "And I'm a Knight, like you. We just serve different worlds, that's why we're in different colors. For me, it's Neptune." She looked him over again now that she was done hiding her face. "How new are you? A few weeks? A few months? I know it can feel like a lot, at first."

The fellow knight blinked in understanding. Looks like they were both a little shy, which made him feel a bit better. Her scar was actually kinda cool, and he wondered how she got it. It’s probably not a very happy story based on how quickly she moved on from the topic though, so he filed that thought away for later. “I awakened a couple months ago… but I don’t have a lot of experience yet, so it feels like it’s been shorter than that,” he explained with a sigh. “I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable by the way. I’m not super great around strangers, especially after meeting an agent of Chaos,” he added the thought aloud, “but I feel like I can trust you.”

"Chaos has that effect on people," said Pendour, her smile twisting a little sad. "Um, being scary, I mean. Not that everyone in the Negaverse is awful, but," she squinted into the distance just past the Page while she looked for the right words. Eye contact felt like too much right now, for either of them. She didn't try it. "The force they serve, it gets into their heads. It makes them not care so much if they hurt people," she said after a drawn-out second, her voice soft. "You can trust me, though," she said, and looked over to his face just for a second. "Or, trust that I won't hurt you. I won't." She didn't even hurt murderers or monsters. The little Page was safe, and she smiled at him. "Oh, and, um. Hi. I'm Pendour," she told him. "I don't know if I said that yet."
