Prompt 9 (The Snowmen) : Destiny City has no shortage of creatives looking to take advantage of the snowfall, so the snowmen popping up around the city are not so surprising, themselves. It’s how often you keep seeing the same snowman. Maybe someone’s making identical snowmen across the city, but there’s just something off about it. Sometimes the same snowman will be facing a different direction than when you last looked at it, or maybe it’s moved altogether. Sometimes in what seems like the blink of an eye. It never moves while you’re watching it, but when your eyes aren’t on it, there’s no telling what might happen. It could be someone playing a prank on you, but why? And how are they getting away with it? The snowmen can’t be moving on their own, right? It doesn’t help that when the weather warms a bit and they begin to melt, they morph into hideous, frightening monstrosities. Somehow, even those seem to be stalking you, right until they completely melt and disappear.
Shedir was finally out on patrol after a very rough week at the hotel. Everyone was so busy with renovations that it felt like time wasn't really going anywhere. She felt like all that moved were the renovations and nothing else. She could even see everyone hurrying around the hotel with supplies galore. Which was great for her family, but not so much for her. It was very mind-numbing and she needed to stimulate her brain again. Since even her favorite horror stories weren't doing the trick. and the second that wasn't working she knew something was wrong. She had to get out of here even if it meant doing some un-exciting or un-eventful patrol. Maybe that could help get her mind un-numbed - at least it was worth a try since she was totally running out of ideas.
So here she was walking down the sidewalk near her home. She could see tons of beautiful Christmas lights, pretty much any color you could think of, and Christmas signs that all spread holiday cheer. It was a breath of fresh air and just seeing the lights in all their colorful joy was starting to open her mind little by little. That was until she noticed this snow-man. Now snow-men weren't partially weird this time of year with all the snow that was happening but this one. Well it threw her a little bit. The reason being she had been walking for a couple miles now and every mile she noticed this same snow-man. He had a purple top hat, this Christmas colored striped scarf (green and red with white snowflakes), and black mittens on his wooden arms. Honestly, had he not had the purple top hat she probably wouldn't have thought anything of it, but that hat it stood out like a sore thumb.
She stared at the snow-man for a moment, and when she said stared she like entered a staring contest with them. She was watching them hard to see if it moved, but nothing was happening. The snow-man just stood there and did absolutely nothing. "maybe my head has finally gone insane," she said under her breath as she walked forward a few more steps and before she knew it. She was face to face with the snow-man. Somehow with just a few moments of her eyes off of them, they had moved right into her path. "Hey now listen here buddy," she said as she put her finger near his face, "You are going to stop following me you hear?" As soon as she said this she swore she heard the snowman laugh. As if to taunt her, but before she could even saying anything back the sun began to brighten and the snow on the snow-man began to melt.
As the snow dripped of the snow-man though it got worse, she saw bats beginning to come out of the melted snow. It was a nightmare come reality, at least for most, but this snow-man was messing with the wrong girl. After all she loved bats, heck she even had a bats stuffed animal, and a bat backpack. So where most would see this as a nightmare, she saw it as a dream. Her little spooky horror dream heart was so happy.
She smiled so huge and just watched in awe as the bats flew off into the sky. She was fascinated, and so happy she came out on this patrol tonight. Since she met the first snow-man who instead helped her get her mind back, by seeing something most would only see in dreams. A snow-man all bright and white turning into bats?! It would sound like a crazy tail if anyone heard her, but honestly she figured this tale was one she might just keep to herself. Since it helped heal her mind and get her back to herself. Which was something she desperately needed. As the snow-man finished felting and the bats all ran off into the sky. She looked towards the sky and shouted loud as she could, "good luck on your next adventure bats family!" She watched until there was no sign left of them, and then with a joyous smile she continued her patrol.
