Prompt 4 (Flurries and Flowers):Strange snow flurries have been blowing through town, frosting entire buildings. Sometimes they come out of nowhere--overnight, or in the timespan of just a few short hours. Sometimes, only minutes. Snow falls rapidly and ice coats doors and windows, sealing them shut. These snow flurries are knocking out power, and worse--trapping people in buildings and cars. Sheets of frosty ice build up quickly and have caused major inconveniences. But, it’s not all bad, if you can find a way to appreciate the small things. After these flurries, in addition to the fresh snow and ice, beautiful flowers in the shape of snowflakes have sprouted up, too. They grow in small patches and permeate a pleasant, sweet fragrance. They can grow on any surface, as long as it is covered in snow or ice. If the flowers are not kept in freezing temperatures, they melt, but for the duration of their lifespan they are beautiful, fragile things.

It hadn’t necessarily been a long night, but Ryan was done for the night. It had started snowing 10 minutes after he had started his patrol and twenty minutes later he was ready to call it a night. It was snowing pretty heavily and he was absolutely freezing and his uniform wasn’t exactly lacking in warmth. After he slipped for the third time on a sheet of ice and barely caught himself he headed back
to his car. There wasn’t energy grabbing or starseed swiping to be had when everyone rushed indoors because of the snow.

By the time he got back to his car, he could unlock it well enough, but there was no getting the damn door open. He sighed and looked around to make sure the coast was clear before he powered up and gave the door a decent yank. The layer of ice, still pretty thin, crumbled and the door came free. He hurriedly slipped into his car and letting his power go and plopping down into the seat as himself. He frowned at the cold starting his car although it sounded weak like the cold was too much for it.

He didn't think his car would actually start, but by some grace it managed and Ryan started on his journey home. That was until he turned a corner and nearly slid into a parked car. It took everything in his not panic and not to attempt to break. He eased up on the gas and guided his car as best as he could until it came to stop. He frowned realizing he wasn’t going anywhere with all this ice.

The snow fell around him and he watched as the street and his car iced over. Eventually he had to kill the engine, worried about the exhaust icing over and potentially poisoning him. He shivered, the temperature in the heated car dropping quickly.

Ryan pulled out his phone to shoot a quick text to his husband.

Caught in another ice storm. These things are ridiculous, babe … I thought October was bad. I stand corrected.

Ryan was glad his babies were not out in this, instead home safe, tucked into their beds asleep for the night. Or at least for the next few hours in Sila's case.

He sighed, waiting for his husband to text him back, pulling a blanket out of the back seat he kept for the kids to share, settling in and putting netflix on his phone to watch a few episodes of The Witcher while he waited for this to pass.

It was nearly an two hours gone when the storm had stopped, but that didn't change the fact that
Ryan was still stuck in his car in the middle of the night. He expected a call for his husband the longer he was stuck. Silas was very attached and he doubted the babe would continue to behave for papa.

He tried turning his windshield wipers on but the things were frozen in place and wouldn't budge. He was still worried about turning the car on as he figured the exhaust was frozen over.

I don’t know babe … might be here for the night. Car completely frozen over and the street is still a sheet of ice.

It was too late for anyone to try and come help and honestly he didn't want anyone trying to help him. Though he wondered if he should just power up and teleport out of there, he just didn't want to leave his car in the middle of the street, nor chance anyone seeing him. Despite being an eastern state and the random ice storms being a thing, the city clearly wasn’t salting enough. Although, he thought, this could be magical like everything else in the damn city.

His phone rang and he frowned looking at the time, seeing his name and picture light up on the screen. He answered his phone and his ears were immediately assaulted with his son's wails. He frowned, “Hey babe, Silas not happy?”

He listened to his husband fussing at him, even if there wasnt really anything he could do. “I’m sorry babe, but I’m literally stuck in the middle of the street and I’ve got to wait for the ice to melt so I can even get out of the car. I can’t even turn it on right now.”

He requested a video call instead of the regular phone call and smiled when he could see their unhappy baby. “Emme bubba, Sy baby calm down now, daddy is coming.”

He watched as his son blinked slightly confused, reaching for the screen before he started wailing again. He looked to his husband, “sing the russian song with me, Lona used to love it.” It took a long time for Ryan to learn it, but he knew the words by heart now and could sing it easily.

He smirked at the look from his husband, but started singing anyway and smirked as his husband sang with him. It took a little bit, but Silas calmed listening to them and started to fall asleep. When he was sure the baby was really asleep he looked to his husband. “I’ll try the door again in 30 minutes, hopefully I’ll be home in an hour. It’s late though, try to go back to sleep.”

He himself couldn’t sleep, uncomfortable and cold in the car, but it wasn’t as freezing as it had been and it was so late, or early now that the sun would start rising soon. “Love you, I’ll be home soon.”

He hung up and tried the door, but it was no use. He would have to wait a bit longer.

Forty-five minutes later Ryan was startled awake, by his door being pulled open roughly and a flashlight in his eyes. He frowned not realizing he’d actually managed to fall asleep. He blinked looking bleary eyed at the police asking if he was okay. He nodded, climbing out his car and realizing another car seemed to have narrowly missed his.

“Sorry, I couldn't move because of the ice and I was stuck in the car.” He realized his and two other cars were blocking the salt truck. He put the car in neutral and helped push it out of the way, then helped with the other cars.

Once he got a moment to look around, he realized there were snowflake flowers, on the cars, in the street, on the sidewalk, on doors and windows. It was an amazing sight and they even smelled good. Ryan was honestly surprised at the beauty of it.

Ryan blinked, realizing the police were talking to him, offering to give him a ride home, as it would be a while still that his car wouldn't be able to be moved. He nodded, feeling relieved to get home to his family. When he walked in he could hear his son’s miserable mewling, shaking his head and plopping down next to his husband. He laid his head on Dmitry’s shoulder, pulling their son into his arms and patting his back. He heard the baby sigh gripping his shirt and making him chuckle. He gave his son a kiss on the forehead before giving his husband a kiss on the cheek and allowing himself to drift to sleep.
