As Faeth walked towards the cafe with Juniper, she looped her arm through his and hummed softly. “...Look, I need to just ask…were you just trying to make a joke about me being pregnant? With the whole bun warmer thing? Or was that some kind of innuendo, because I think I understand, but I’m obviously still confused…and not pregnant!”
…Not yet anyway. It…
It wasn’t something she had really thought about before but…
…It wouldn’t be so bad, she was sure.
“I’m sorry that you didn’t get to pet any of the bunnies…maybe next time…do you have anyone that you’re sweet on? I know I’ve talked about my girlfriend and honestly…I could talk your ear off about her, but I want to know more about you! My new bestie!”
One of her new besties. Faeth just kept finding new friends, and honestly? She wouldn’t have it any other way.

Wait, what?
Juniper stopped for a minute, staring at his friend like a deer in the headlights. What the hell was she talking about. "What..?" He squeaked, confused.
As for the bunnies... "No... It's fine. I'm just glad you got to pet them. That made you happy." So it was enough for him. "As for someone.. No." Juni said with a shake of his head. "No one sweet. I had crushes when I was in Romano's, yeah. But I've never dated anyone. It's always just been me. Well, and my sister. But you get the point.
Okay now back to the other thing.
"What about pregnancy jokes?"

“Oh, you know like…a bun in the oven? Whatever…” Faeth’s cheeks were quite warm and she suddenly didn’t really want to talk about this any longer but…still. “Anyway! Crushes are fun! I hope that you find someone nice, then we could go and do double dates if you’d want, that would be really neat, I think. I don’t know, I just like having friends.”
Shrugging, she snorted, feeling more amused by the situation now that her embarrassment had started to dwindle. “I think I want a baby now though. You’ve got the idea in my mind, and it seems…like a really nice one, so thanks for that, Juni.” Sticking her tongue out at the boy, Faeth laughed again and then gave a sigh. “That’s my biggest regret with…choosing this life. I lost all of my friends from who I was before but…”
The smile she wore was quite sad and she shrugged again. “I don’t remember who I lost so…there’s that. But I have you now, and others! So…it’s not so bad. And I’d choose her again, that’s for sure. She’s…always been my choice. Sappy as it sounds.”

Juniper stared at her. "...I said something dumb, didn't I..." He said slowly.
He rolled his eyes with a playful shake of the head. "Oh yeah, cause people are just LINING up to date someone obsessed with dinosaurs and is generally a nerd. I've got to beat them off with a stick." Juni shrugged a shoulder. "My crushes never went anywhere. Never really told anyone about them anyway."
Juniper turned red at her words instantly. "Is THAT what I said?" He squeaked, flustered. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry." That's it. Just gank his starseed. Use him for energy. Maybe he'd be more useful that way instead of making embarrassing comments. "I should just like, stop talking forever."
"Well, that's something at least then, isn't it? Just cause you lost one life, doesn't mean you can't build another."

“Not dumb! I just thought you were trying to make a naughty joke or something, that was my bad for misunderstanding!” He was adorable, and the fact that he didn’t have someone just fawning over him was an absolute crime.
“Oh my God Juni, you are perfect, don’t belittle yourself like that. You’re adorable and I am so happy to be your friend. You’re going to find someone who also likes dinosaurs and is generally a nerd, I promise that you will! And then we’ll double date, just like I said.”
His next words made Faeth swallow hard and give a small, almost tremulous smile. “...I’m working on it. Working really hard at it. And it’s easier with friends like you…so whenever you think you should stop talking, just remember that I like when you talk, and even if you say things that…can be taken in more than one way…I like it. You make me happy, Juni. And I’m very, very glad that we’re friends.”
She paused and then gave a suddenly wicked smile. "Also, bunnies are often used in sex jokes because they have so many babies, so there's that too."

"No!" He squeaked. "Bun like bunnies! I was trying to make a pun!" Juniper hid his face in his hands, wishing the ground would swallow him up. "I don't know about that." Came the words, mumbled around his hands. "No one's really had an interest in little old me. I was never what anyone was looking for in a partner." He wasn't tall, or drop dead gorgeous. Or he was lacking certain aspects that people tend to prefer.
"You're doing your best. That's all that matters. You're doing what you can do. No one should ask anything more of you." Even if the choice to swap wasn't hers.
Juniper turned a similiar shade to his hair as he stared at her in bewilderment. "I'm never getting a rabbit as a pet. Ever. The urge is now dead. "

“Well, now you see what happens when you try to be punny and funny about a bunny!” Faeth stuck her tongue out at him and looked pleased, finally reaching out to fluff his hair. “You’ll find someone, Juni. You don’t have to be anything amazing or outstanding, you just have to be you. I know that there’s someone out there who will fall head over heels for you, and you’ll see it too one day, I’m sure of it.”
Fluffing his hair again, Faeth shook her head, grinning once again. “Well, if you won’t get one then you’ll at least have to get one for me. I still like bunnies, puns or not.”

"Ugh. I'm never making another joke again." He whined. Maybe he should just stop talking. "I don't know what's worse. The fact that I live so far under a rock that I didn't realize what I said, or the fact that I know you're not going to let me live this down." Juniper muttered. "I swear to god if you tell Bell... I'll... I'll.. go be someone else's bestie!" He threatened.
Yep. That's what he'd do. Cause Faeth totally would just take that laying down.
"Maybe." Juniper mumbled. "Who knows." He could end up botching it royally and ruining it.
Juni snorted. "Nah fam. No more bunnies. What a travesty." He singsonged, mimicking her and sticking out his tongue in return.
