Quote:
Prompt 6 (Frozen Time): Midnight is a magical time of night; parties, dancing, kisses--there are a number of rituals celebrated in the winter nights. Every night has a midnight, but this one is special. There is an old church and bell tower on the quiet outskirts of town, near a beautiful forest that has been decorated with lights to celebrate the season. Maybe you are alone, maybe you are with friends, or maybe you’re at a party celebrating one of the many events--whatever the case, small, delicate snowflakes have been falling lightly for the past hour. And then--suddenly--they stop. The clock strikes midnight and the bell echoes a low, metallic chime that feels like it can be heard for miles. By the second chime, you realize that nothing else is moving. Snowflakes are suspended in the air and all living creatures--plants, animals, and people alike--are completely frozen. The clock chimes twelve times and the world is still frozen. Suddenly, there’s no way to tell how much time has passed--but nothing moves. Maybe it feels like a moment, maybe it feels like an hour. You can try to leave the area but you can never go far enough that the church is out of sight. In an instant, time seems to snap back into motion. To everyone else, it feels like no time has passed. To you, you know. The church seems eerie and foreboding and if you return you feel uncomfortable, as though you have broken something and are unwelcome. If roleplaying with a partner, multiple characters can remain unfrozen as the world around them freezes!

It was really rare River got a date night with just one of the group. He'd actually managed to ask Derek. He was the one he knew least about, and River was itching to get to know him on more levels.

So he'd asked Derek to meet him near this old church he'd heard about. There was supposed to be something magical about this place. At his side, River had a bag that had some hot chocolate in a thermos, a couple of cups for them, and his wallet to see if there was anything they could take home as gifts, either for each other, or maybe something for a late night Christmas present.

He was bundled up from head to toe. River tended to get cold easily. On top of his blue hair was a black beanie with no words or graphics. His torso was clad in a dark gray, long, thick almost trench coat, with a black turtle neck sweater peeking out. He had on some black pants and his typical chunky style boots. Gloves adorned his hands, and clutched the handle of his saddle bag.

Early or never was River's motto, and so he was early. He had several reminders on his phone about the date and place, just in case something started acting up with his memory. He didn't want to forget this.

He opened his phone to look up the trail of lights that was supposed to be near the church. He was just using itt as a landmark right now. Though, River was almost regretting his choice of listening to the rumors and doing this around midnight.

How the ******** River managed to convince the boys that he was going out at midnight without starting a mass panic, Derek would never understand. Yet there he was waiting for the blond as if it was just another walk in the park.

Which... honestly probably not far off.

Sorry, sorry~" He muttered, hoping he didn't scare River in the process as he finally reached the other. Derek hadn't meant to get so caught up on things last minute. It just happened. "You weren't waiting long I hope?"

Derek shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie. All he had was that and Avery's old leather jacket thrown on top.

...At least one of them knew how to dress appropriately for the weather.

"So... Lights?" He asked gently.

River looked over what Derek was wearing and just sighed slowly. He didn't look very warm. Hopefully he would be alright, because River didn't have anything extra to offer him. Maybe they would find some warm drinks along the way.

"You're fine. I'm... always early to things. I wasn't waiting that long." Adjusting some hair under his hat, River looked around before nodding. "Lights. I figured it would be at least pretty to look at."

So he took them down the start of the path. Those hands weren't clutching his bag anymore. One of them reached out to loop his arm through Derek's own and just continued down the path. "Hope the others aren't going to be too jealous that I wanted to be alone with you for a change. I wanted time to get to know you more. We... sleep a lot next to each other, on each other, but we do not get to talk too much."

"Don't look at me like that." Derek said, as if picking up on River's thoughts. "You get colder then all of us. I'll be fine, I promise." Besides, at least he had sleeves here. His fuku barely had that. Not that River knew of that.

"Lights around this time of year are always pretty to look at." Even if some people got a little insane with their displays.

Derek hummed slightly when River looped their arms together. "I mean, you might have to deal with a slightly jealous Jean, buuut I think for the most part they're just happy you're getting out, ya know?" The blonde shrugged lightly. "We don't talk much one on one yeah, everyone's been through a lot. You especially. I wasn't about to throw myself into the mix, with you just getting use to Avery and Jean again. I figured, things would happen on their own time." It had been the same way with him and Kazuo in the beginning. Yeah they'd known each other before the group, but once everyone got together it was like relearning everything.

River looked unimpressed when Derek said he was fine. Part of him didn't believe the kid, but he wasn't going to say it in words. Instead he just squeezed Derek's arm and listened to him talk. The sound was plenty calming for him.

"It's a very odd situation we've found ourselves in. Growing up groups like this... I don't even think they existed? Or if they did it was under the radar so much I thought like that." The bluenette shrugged a bit and just turned to look at the lights wrapped around trees, and the ones starting to come into view with the church.

It was then, however, that the clock struck midnight and the bell filled his chest with each ring. Purple eyes looked around to see if any displays were going to change with the tolling of the bell. That's when River noticed the snow flakes weren't moving. He blinked hard and shook his head. A trick of the light? Was he too tired again? He swallowed and looked up at Derek before looking around again. No, everything, even the other few people out here weren't moving.

"Is ....this some kind of joke? Everyone's frozen... This isn't some planned prank is it?"

"Tell you what, when and if I get sick, you get to tell me 'I told you so' till you get tired of it. How's that?" Derek said, with a small chuckle.

"They did exist." The blonde mumbled softly. "And it really was under the radar if you didn't realize it. You only have to look as far as Jean, Avery and yourself, River. I don't know all the details or stories, and you might not remember everything but we both know you were part of a group. You had the gang then, and you have us now. Yes, the types of groups they are, and the love that was involved is vastly different between the two but at the end of the day both were, and are a family. You guys figured it out then, we're figuring it out now.

Derek frowned, gently tugging his arm free from River's grasp long enough to wrap it around the shorter man's shoulders instead. "...I don't think so. I could believe the people, maybe...." But to make snow freeze in place? "...Never a dull moment around here, huh?" Derek asked softly, hoping to ease River's stress. "We uh... We don't tell Jean about this part, yeah?"
