Brooklyn was quiet as she walked, wondering what she should say to the cat or if she should start the conversation or…let him do it or…
Her head was starting to hurt and honestly…she didn’t like it. The idea of being back at her dorm, curled up in her bed just…well. It sounded really good. Chewing on her lip, she glanced at the large white cat that walked beside her. “...Sorry that I thought you were the monster. I’m not really. Great with animals and you’re really big for a cat. Thought you could be a mountain lion or something.”
And she…honestly hadn’t known what was going on, and perhaps. The cat did deserve an apology so there it was.
“...I really don’t need protection though, I promise I can take care of myself. I’m good at it too.”
If he hadn’t picked that up from the whole…argument or whatever had happened…he would know it now. And hopefully it wouldn’t be taken personally or misunderstood or.
“...Anyway. I will take advice though. If you had some.”

“I’m not here to protect you. I’m completely out of magic, I’d be pretty useless. If you got into another fight, the best I’ve got in me is some scratches. But that’s not exactly why I wanted to come with you.”
He’d been on his phone earlier and messaged Lysithea asking where she was, but she hadn’t messaged back yet. He kept checking to see if he had a response, but so far, nothing. Not surprising if she was still on her Homeworld. He didn’t feel bad, or off, he just didn’t know what was going on with her.
What he did know was that A Lysithea Knight had awakened right in front of him, and he wanted answers.
“Ideally I’d like to get to know you, and to figure out why you awakened. I’ve never met a Lysithea Knight before. Theoretically, it should be impossible? But I’m worried about her. I’m good friends with Lysithea, so.” He sighed, and checked his phone again. “I just want to know she’s okay. You’ve been involved in some of this already, though, haven’t you? How much do you know already? I’ve got plenty of advice to share.”

“Who is Lysithea? Can we start there? That’s not anything I’ve heard of before, and like…I’m not sure why I would just…say something like that, you know?” Brooklyn ran a hand through her hair and shrugged. “Like, she’s a person? That’s…kind of strange, I guess. But, I’m glad that I have magic. I wanted it. What do I know…? I know that some girl in a lolita outfit promised me clothes in exchange for helping her steal energy and then Elliot and Atticus told me that was bad news and I wanted to get magic like a friend of mine so I could protect them and then I had met a youma and poked it and I’m pretty sure it was draining my energy and I wasn’t really a fan of that but…whatever things happen. And then tonight happened.”
Glancing at the cat again she hesitated. “So…okay, tell me a quick run down? Like, what’s your role in all of this? How do you know Atticus and Elliot?”
That was a good question too, honestly. Maybe if she could think of more questions…she could actually learn enough to impress her friends or…at least not upset them again.

“Oh, those are good questions,” Soleiyu said; he didn’t need much time to consider his answers before he was speaking again.
“I’m a Mauvian. My role is bigger with Senshi–that is, a different type of magical warrior. It’s my job to guide them, to help them. I have the ability to unlock more power and potential within them when they're ready. Lysithea is a Senshi, she’s the guardian of a world called Lysithea. She and I are bonded, it just means we share a special connection. There aren’t Knights for every world, but you’ll find plenty enough. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Earth, the Moon. Worlds you know and worlds you’ve probably never heard of. They all have different magic, and different roles. Things were different a thousand years or so ago, a lot’s changed. Those other worlds used to be alive and bustling, but something spread through our universe and mucked it all up. Chaos, probably. There are different types of that, too. But it sounds like you’ve already learned a bit about the Negaverse. That’s how I met Atticus and Elliot, really.”
He’d perked up a bit since they started walking; his tail swished behind him as they walked.
“The Negaverse was after Atticus. I don’t know how much he’s told you, but the long story, short, is that he was living with his biological father. Who was a horrible, selfish, cruel specimen of a man. Greedy, too. He enlisted the help of the Negaverse, he wanted to kill Atticus. Of course, a few of us were aware of the situation, so we stepped into help. But Atticus still got hurt. He had to get a whole new identity to keep himself safe. And even then, the Negaverse still attacked Elliot, too. They were all just innocents, none of them deserved the trouble they got. And their house was totally destroyed, but they made it out alive. Which is impressive, because the house came down almost completely, and that youma was a menace. So, I’m invested. I attach easily. I made a lot of technology to try and keep the boys safe, so I feel a bit responsible for them. And now you, a Knight of Lysithea. I think, given that Lysithea is my bonded senshi, I ought to be looking after you, too.”

“I heard a really censored version of those events…but they left out the part that the Negaverse attack was anything more than something random…” Brooklyn honestly wished that they had. Wished that they had shared more with her so that she could have understood better but.
She knew now, she supposed. That didn’t do much to stop the bitterness that lingered in her mouth, and the guilt that seemed to weigh heavily upon her.
“The only reason I know anything about it is because there was a girl trying to get me to join, I guess. And I hadn’t wanted to go alone so I asked if those two would go with me…but I haven’t seen the girl since, and I never gave her my name or anything, I’m not the brightest bulb in the bunch, but I’m not stupid either…I know how to protect myself from creeps…”
Especially since she had never brought her anything she had promised. What a waste of time.
“So…I’m the first…Lysithea person that you’ve met other than you…bonded…senshi?” Brooklyn still wasn’t completely sure what a senshi was but…she was trying. “Does that make me super special or…why is that, do you think? I mean, you seem like you know a lot of people, and no offense but you seem like you’re happiest when you’re poking that little nose of yours into other’s lives…at least that’s what I’m getting from the whole Elliot and Atticus thing…so..is that right?”
…The idea of being super special was…
Definitely not a bad one.

“The first Lysithea Knight, yes,” Soleiyu confirmed. He hadn’t yet put things together, and he wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to without talking to Lysithea, but he was doing the best that he could, for now. Making sure Brooklyn was safe was his current priority–even if she was convinced that she could look after herself, he still wanted to give her as many resources as possible.
“I think there must be something special about you, about all of this. It’s unusual. And I care very much for Lysithea, both the Senshi and the world, and now you’re a part of it. You being a Knight means that there’s a little place up there that’s under your protection. So I want to make sure you know everything you need to, I want to make sure you can reach it. I know you’ve said you can protect yourself, and I believe it, but there’s no harm in a little extra help, I think. It’s not that I poke my nose into their lives, that makes me sound unwanted.”
He huffed a little as he trotted along with her. “I’ll have you know, I’m very well liked. People often come to me for advice, I’m very good at helping. If I had to guess, I’d suspect that something happened on Lysithea. But she hasn’t messaged me back yet. You’ll stay in contact with me, won’t you? I want to make sure you don’t have to go into this all alone. I know people who can help show you the ropes, who can make sure you have all the resources you need to succeed. To be strong, and safe. A support system, just in case you ever need help. Or, in case someone needs help and you want to chip in.”

“I do have a phone…” Brooklyn began, but then hesitated. Cats couldn’t use phones…but. Cats couldn’t talk either…and she did like the idea of a support system…of people to get her situated in all of this…
Something made her pause though and she chewed her bottom lip for a moment. “So wait…what do you mean I have a little place that’s under my protection? Like…I have a home up there? Could I live there? I bet it would be a heck of a lot better than the place I live here…”
Maybe not during the school year…but if it meant she would have a place to stay over the winter break? That…would be wonderful.
Some of the nuns were working to see if she would be able to stay in the dorms, but having a back up plan…a place that was just hers...
That sounded wonderful. “...Now…where would this be? And…I can see that, I guess. You’re smart, so…ah. Do you know how to use a phone? I kind of cut myself off just now but…you’re a cat so…I figured…the answer must be no…but um. I do have one. So we could keep in contact that way…if you wanted.”

Soleiyu laughed, a bit politely, but with a fair bit of amusement, too. “Just because I look like a cat doesn’t mean I am one. I don’t mind the descriptor, but I’m far more intelligent than any Earth cat you see wandering around. I know how to use phones. I know how to build phones. And more. Let me borrow yours for a moment? I can plug in my number, you can send me a message.”
He looked up at her a bit expectantly, but he seemed like he had every intention of being patient.
“And then we can make plans to meet up again soon. I’m sorry to say that I don’t know that anywhere on Lysithea is livable–yet. But I really need to speak to her and see what she’s got going on. It isn’t that I think it’s uninhabitable or anything, she’s been camping up there for a few days, but it’s not really a long term solution. Although, I suppose she could let you borrow her camping supplies if you were interested. But it’s lonely up there, you might be the only one. If you’re like other Knights though, you could clean your Wonder up. I suppose there’s nothing stopping you from living up there, if you got it fixed up.”

There wasn’t much that Soleiyu was saying that made sense, but Brooklyn nodded and drew her phone from her pocket, holding it out to the cat…not cat. It was still a cat though, so…no matter what he said that wouldn’t…couldn’t change.
It wasn’t a great phone, a cheap, flip phone but it did what she needed it to do. “I’d like that. To talk with you again soon…and I’d like to be able to clean it up and live up there…it would be a home of my own and that…honestly that’s more than I could ever ask for so…”
Her head was still spinning from all that had happened…but…when she had time to think it all over…it would be okay. She knew it would be okay.
After her phone was in the cat’s paws, Brooklyn reached out and softly stroked his head, thoughtful. “...If you see them again tonight…please let them know that I’m sorry….I didn’t mean to fight…” She paused. “...Not with them, I mean. The monster…I meant that.”

Soleiyu accepted her phone without any judgment; he effortlessly selected her contacts and plugged his information in while he listened. Briefly, his eyes darted up, but he focused on making sure she could reach him before he passed her phone back.
“I can let them know. But you’ll see them tomorrow, won’t you? I’m sure it’ll mean more coming from you. They’re good boys. And you don’t seem bad, yourself. Things like this can be stressful. Try not to carry too much of it in your heart.”
He pushed his head back into her hand and nuzzled it. Maybe he was hamming it up a little and he threw in a little purr, too.
“All of this is a lot to swallow, and it seems like you’ve all had quite a bit of stress to get to this point. I don’t think any of you meant any harm. I’m just glad you’re all okay. It’ll work out for the best, Brooklyn. Although, if I am permitted to stick my nose in your business for just a bit longer,” he nuzzled her hand again, and let his tail curl around her wrist, “You’ll get a lot of people that want to help. They might be a bit pushy. But they mean well. The house I live in, there’s a whole group of them. Honestly, I don’t think half of them know how to take care of themselves, the best they can do is take care of others. But it’s a good mix. There are some that can fight, some that can cook. All of them know how to survive. I can see how hard it is for you to trust people, but.”
One more nuzzle.
“Give them a chance. And let me know if there’s ever anything I can do, too, all right?”

Brooklyn gave a huff, but it sounded rather good natured. “I’ll try...but I really don’t like when people…I mean. I’m just used to doing things on my own. When people offer to help they normally just want something that I can’t or won’t give them, so…it’s. Just.”
She shrugged and gave him one last pet, and then a quick kiss on the tip of his cute little nose. “...Good luck with Lysithea! I do hope that I can meet her so she knows that she has a Knight or whatever! Be safe going the rest of the way to your home!”
With a small wave, Brooklyn took off, heading back to her dorm, heading to think and figure all of these things out…
And to hopefully not get a headache from doing so.
