Quote: Prompt 5 (Snow Fairies): On a cold winter night, when the moon is nearly full and bright in the sky, you hear laughter. At first, you can't place it, but then you feel little pokes and prods, tugs on your hair, your clothes. Sometimes you think you see something out of the corner of your eye--a small, icy body. Sometimes you hear wings flapping in the night. As long as you are out in the cold, you feel eyes on you and you find yourself the target of small mischief from what seems to be icy little fairies, though they move too fast for you to see or grab. They never speak, only laugh. When you go inside, or venture anywhere with too much light or heat, they seem to disappear and do not bother you again. As the winters came and went, Camelot grew more aware of certain things as immutable truths of the season. The first of those things was the idea that something strange was going to happen. Of course, that was true for almost every day in the city, but holiday seasons seemed particularly susceptible.
So, out on this patrol, Camelot was not worried about the little voices he was sure he was hearing, nor did he seem particularly unsettled by the little things he was sure were fluttering around him. As of yet, he had not been able to pin one down (so to speak: he would never hurt anything without cause), but he was sure there was something curious behind it. Tiny youma? They seemed harmful, and some of those sounds were more like giggles than anything else.
The last time he checked, youma did not giggle. At least not with actual innocence and sweetness.
It had to look odd, though. A man in full armor, with a long cape and a big shield on his arm, standing stone still as if he had become a statue at some point in the evening. Or maybe he was always a statue, and had only recently acquired mobility and was not yet used to it. Whatever the case, he was not moving much. He just moved his head a bit, sometimes, when he thought he saw one flitting by, only to sigh a large plume of frozen breath in disappointment when he found nothing there.
For how calm this all seemed, it was oddly maddening. But Camelot was patient and, more importantly, on the older side of things. He was immediately tired by pranks and silliness, though he tried his best to be open minded and warm. He wanted to understand what he was seeing, but first he had to confirm he was actually seeing something at all. The second immutable truth that settled on his shoulders was the fact that he was getting far too old for this kind of thing.
He sighed again, finally lifting on arm to bring his finger and thumb to the bridge of his nose and rub it ruefully.

Technically, Nectaris was on a mission. After whatever had happened the other night, Pendour had made up this whole plan about constantly scanning the city to keep an eye out for Faustite and other dangerous generals. Nectaris didn't know all the details, but she figured she should help as much as she could. She should, like, patrol, and keep an eye out. After all, she was invested in the whole Faustite situation, too. She might not have been doing a great job at said mission. Like, she was trying, she really was, but then out of nowhere there were fairies. At least, she was pretty sure they were fairies. She couldn't get a straight on look at them, if she tried to turn straight towards one of the tiny shapes she was seeing, it would vanish and she'd just hear this giggling in her head. She felt stuff tugging at her hair, too, but she wasn't even bothered by it. All she could think about was how cool this was. She wasn't thinking about Chaos at all. There was an Order aura strong enough that she made her way in that direction, wondering if it was Ganymede, or the new flower princess, but what she saw was a guy who also looked like he was right out of a fairy tale. "Woah," she whispered. "Fairies? Knights? I mean," she smiled, lopsided, "I know we're all technically knights, but you're, like, textbook. Armor and everything. I feel like I'm in a storybook." She paused. "Also, hi."

Camelot glanced toward the voice, his stillness broken by having someone to focus on instead of the faintly irritating little faeries. There were a lot more important things to be annoyed by, probably, but he was rather distracted.
"Oh, don't worry, you're still very much on regular Earth. But you're not wrong: there certainly are faeries. I think so, anyway. Fast little things. And a bit rude. I swear they're laughing."
He sighed, giving up his efforts to lure them into sight and turning instead to the stranger. He bowed, not unused to people telling him he looked like he was straight out of a book. It was fitting, anyway, considering his day job. And his Wonder was one of the most classic story realms there could be.
"Hello," he laughed, not thinking the excitement out of place, and certainly not rude. Not like the faeries. "My name is Camelot, Royal Knight of Earth, at your service. The armor might look cool, but it does not like the cold much. A bit stiff. Or maybe those are my bones."
He waved his hand, making a goofy face.

"Don't worry, I know it's not literally a storybook," she said. "I know I haven't been a Knight for that long-" although her aura begged otherwise. She was certainly a Knight, and not a Page or Squire. "But it's been enough that I know there's lots of weird magic stuff right here on 'regular Earth.'" Camelot might have given up on the whole looking for the fairies thing, but she hadn't, quite yet. Even as she talked, she was up on her tiptoes and spinning in place, whirling towards any hints of sparkles she was seeing. She wasn't getting anything other than blurred vision and some more giggling in her ears. "Royal Knight, though? That's cool! I didn't know that was a thing. Like, I knew Princesses," obviously, she'd kinda had to save one's life to get into this whole situation, "But. I dunno. I guess I figured it was the senshi that got to have all the fun." They just seemed so floaty and powerful and precious, of course it was them who got to be royalty. "Oh, and my name's Nectaris, by the way. I'm a Moon Knight." She stopped spinning for long enough to wave at him.

Camelot laughed at that, nodding his head. Of course, it seemed obvious to know the difference between reality and a storybook, but in this town? Maybe it was more difficult than one might think. Camelot remembered a time he had been in a completely different universe, while in reality he had been in a coma. Life in Destiny City was never boring.
Never safe, but never boring.
"Not so regular, hmm? I'm always on edge, this time of year," he winced at the giggle that flitted past his ear, but was determined to otherwise ignore it. He watched the young knight, warm green eyes thoughtful, but not offended. "As far as I know, I'm the only one. But that is due to change, I'm sure. With everything going on, and the loyalty and power of the knights, I'm certain more will be appearing soon. Who knows, maybe it's in your destiny, too."
He hummed thoughtfully, curious.
"Moon Knight? I'm surprised, I've never heard of one before. Which probably isn't a good thing, but I suppose I do stick to my own routines..." He needed to get out from the library more often, apparently.

Royal Knight in her own destiny? Nectaris puffed out her cheeks as she considered, but in the end she shook her head. “I dunno,” she said. “I still feel like I’m super new to being a Knight still. I guess it’ll be a year in a couple months, but I think I’ve used my magic like… twice?” She counted it out on her fingers, then nodded. “Yeah. Twice.” She could still hear the fairies, but they were less interesting than Camelot. “And yeah from what I heard Moon Knights are kinda new? The Code on the moon started like, picking people to protect it. Like, new people who aren’t reincarnated or whatever, which is good ‘cause it means I get to be here.” It meant she got to keep helping people, keep reaching out to the people in the Negaverse who she’d accidentally left behind. “So yeah. It picked me cause I broke a Princess out of Negaspace, uh. Back when I was a General. Not that I remember exactly, but yeah. That’s my story.” Hopefully he wasn’t one of the ones who was gonna be weird about purification.

"There are moments when we all feel super new, no matter how experienced we are," Camelot laughed, looking thoughtful. "But I suppose that's a good thing, as we're always learning and growing. The more we experience, and share, the stronger we are. Individually and together."
He chuckled, waving his hand. He knew he had a way of getting lost in his own thoughts, with the downside of that being his thoughts were usually being verbalized at the same time. At least she was more polite than Carlisle, who usually just walked away whenever he started on a lecture.
Though, he would not hold it against her if she did decide to do just that.
"Well, that's a good reason to be made a knight, no matter what's making the decision, I suppose. As long as it was what you wanted, at the time." Camelot smiled, waving his hand. "When I purified my dear friend Merlinite, he became an Earth Knight, but I don't believe it had anything to do with my alliance. It was simply what was in his destiny. We're guiding, in small ways, but I still think the most important part in any of it is free will, and being true to one's self."
He stopped himself, a curious look coming to his face. "Oh, you mentioned your powers. What are they like? I can tell you, using them does not make you any less new. Thankfully, there have only been a few times when I've needed to use mine, since becoming a Royal Knight."

Nectaris was pretty hard to scare away with lectures, or with pretty much any other kind of talking, considering how many words were coming out of her own mouth whenever she got the chance to say them. Like now. "I had a choice. I wasn't, like, forced into being a Knight or anything," she told him. "Like, even when I purified, which obviously I was gonna do at that point, should have done it way earlier, but. Y'know. Negaverse mind games." She wiggled her fingers, like it was something she could brush away that she'd done terrible things for seven whole years. It wasn't, but she didn't wanna weigh Camelot down with the old sins she couldn't even remember. "It gave me the choice of if I wanted out of the war, or if I wanted to be a Knight. I dunno if there was much destiny involved, it picked out a Wonder that it thought would be a good match for me." She didn't remember this actual conversation, but she'd asked about it afterwards. "Which is like, butterflies. Stained glass. I got this moon staff, and the magic makes the ground glow around me. From what I can tell, it burns people if they're Chaos? I can show you, it shouldn't hurt us." She touched her staff to the ground, and as she'd said, the softly glowing image of a moon appeared under their feet. Lithiasaur Magic - Nectaris channels her magic by touching her staff to the ground. An image of a glowing full moon forms on the ground beneath her, 15 feet in diameter, and the area is filled with moonlight. Order characters only feel the moonlight as a slight hopeful omen, but to Chaos characters, the light gives the sensation of painful second degree burns across their entire body. This stops immediately if they go out of range of the spell, and the pain is purely illusory. This magic never leaves lasting damage. Nectaris can channel for 45 seconds.

Camelot wrinkled his nose at something, but made no comment. He was always happy to welcome a knight, regardless of the dubious path taken to get there. Somethings were beyond his control, and most certainly beyond those that fought in the war. There was no point thinking how he could have done things differently.
He watched the magic instead, the slight darkness that had crossed his expression vanishing as he watched the light show. Nodding his head, he felt nothing bad in the power, though he was sure she was right when she said it would make the Negaverse feel pain.
"I have something similar, though it is not my power as a knight. I can cast a shield, unsurprisingly, but in this form it can repel Chaos completely and create a safe space. But I have this crystal, from ages ago, that is now imbedded in my shield. It casts a green light, which causes Chaos to feel pain. While I don't like it, particularly, it's good to know it won't cause lasting damage. Yours, too, is like that, I take it?"
He hoped so, anyway. Knight magic was not meant to destroy, though it could do many things when used in war to defend oneself and those around them. It was up to the knight themselves to decide just how dangerous their weapons and magic would be.

Nectaris stopped channeling the magic after just a couple seconds, long enough for Camelot to get a good look at it. He was sure he'd do fine at protecting them if someone decided to jump them for some reason, since he was a Royal Knight and also had a whole shield thing going on, but she wanted to be able to help if she had to. Her eyes widened when he talked about his crystal though. "A magic crystal from a long time ago?" she asked. "See now that's like, super fairytale." Apparently, the little sprites did not agree. It was either that or, like, they'd gotten bored. She hadn't heard any giggling or felt any weird pokes or prods in almost a minute. "And yeah I don't really use my magic too much?" she said. "I've been talking to people a lot, there's some people on my old team who I think I might be able to get to come purify, too? But then there's just some people who flat out try to murder me 'cause I'm a traitor, so." She grinned, like she wasn't talking about something so serious, but if Camelot looked in her eyes he'd see that her gaze was a little distant. "The burning thing helps a lot with keeping me not dead."

Camelot laughed, shaking his head.
"It would not seem so fairytale if you knew how I ended up with it. There was a squirrel involved. It's... it's fine," he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as he thought back. It felt like an eternity ago now, and he tried not to dwell on how old it made him feel.
"Talking is a very good tactic, I find. I try to avoid fighting if I can, though some, sometimes quite a few, of the Chaos side of things like to lead with their fists. I think spreading the word about purification, just as an option for those that might be feeling helpless, is a good step to take. It can be far more helpful to someone than you might even realize."
He could think of a few people who fit that description.
"But if you ever do find you are in need of help, I am always willing to aid you. Purifying is scary enough, to some, without the added feeling of being hunted. "I will always be ready to lend my strength to protect other knights."

Nectaris thought about telling him that any story that involved both a squirrel and a magical gem was literally the most fairytale thing she could possibly think of, but for once she managed to bite her tongue. It would get awkward really quick if the squirrel had, like, exploded or something. So, instead she said, "Don't worry. I'm not just gonna like, spread the word." Her smile might have been small, but it was full of all the confidence in the world. "I'm gonna get those people out." It was like she'd told Encke. She was gonna save as many of her friends as she possibly could. Which, planting seeds would probably help with that. Best she could tell, it had taken people a while to get through to her. She just wanted to go farther. She wanted to get her old friends on her side again. "Anyway," she told him, "I should probably get back to patrolling, but I appreciate that." She wasn't gonna say no to protection from someone powerful when she could still see the marks of burns on her arms from the last time someone had come after her shouting traitor. Her grin was bright. " Really."

"Of course! I didn't mean to distract you from your patrols, of course. I can get a bit carried away with conversation, especially when I'm curious. Thank you for indulging me, at the very least, and for the display of your magic."
The Royal Knight of Earth chuckled at that, shaking his head at his own expense. He could be a very easily distracted man, sometimes, but he was always growing and learning, and it was very exciting to encounter things that he had not seen before. Nothing ever stayed the same too long in this city, after all. That was one of those things he could count on.
He moved to let her return to her business, knowing he had some things of his own to take care of. Hadaya was probably waiting for him to get back to get him some dinner, though he was perfectly capable of getting it himself. He liked to act like a house cat, despite the two of them knowing better.
Pausing before he turned away, though, he bowed his head.
"And, though a little late, welcome to the Knights, and to the White Moon. It is an honor to have you as one of us, and I am sure you will do very well here. Have a good evening!"

"Oh, you don't have to say sorry or anything," said Nectaris, still bouncing a little bit on her toes. Again, she liked to talk, probably too much. It wasn't something she could fault other people for. "It was really cool, getting to meet you. I liked showing you my magic and stuff!" She was going to go home and tell everyone about the cool fairytale knight that she'd met, about the magic crystal, and the fairies, and the full set of armor."And thanks! I'm gonna do my best here, okay?" she said, already spinning away. "See you later!"
