11/9/22

Lysithea slept well on her first full night on her homeworld. It was comfortable, and even though there was the obvious presence of critters, it wasn’t…that bad. Nothing felt threatening. Not the squeaks of what she presumed were the bats, nor the song of the cricket bugs.

The whistle of the bird in the morning though…she could have done without that…it was too early to be awake and yet.

Here she was.

Rubbing her eyes, Lysithea gave a yawn that made her jaw ache, and finally set about to getting some food for herself. She ate outside of the tent, resting against the trunk of her tree and looking out onto the landscape that seemed to go on forever. A large part of her wanted to go back and revisit that castle she had found yesterday, perhaps go and try to explore the inside. Though…if she ended up with another vision or memory or…whatever that had been…

That would just end up eating the whole day…so maybe…for now she should try another direction.

Perhaps…

Turning her head to the left, she pondered and then got up, stretching before setting off at a brisk pace, looking around and once more feeling a terribly warm eagerness to just…see...to just see everything.

After what felt as though she had been walking for a good half hour, Lysithea saw a sight that utterly took her breath away…though, perhaps it was the smell that first took her breath away. The scent was from hundreds and hundreds of flowers that dotted a field and then down a grassy hill. The pops of bright color contrasted with the lavender grasses and almost looked like jewels that had been hidden there.

It…

It was easily the most beautiful sight that she had ever laid eyes on, and…sure, there might not be too many beautiful sights to go off of but…this was truly incredible.

What caught her attention next was a bright flash of white among the jewel colors and lavender and…oh.

Oh.

If her head hadn’t been still swimming with the memory from yesterday, she might have been more surprised, but…this was what she had honestly been hoping for since creatures started showing up…it was a unicorn…as beautiful as the one from her vision, though she was sure that it couldn’t be the same one…surely they didn’t live that long, even if they were magical.

Lysithea began to walk slowly towards the creature, her eyes filled with a wonder that was utterly unfeigned. This…wasn’t something that happened every day, after all and…she was excited.. “...Hello there! You’re beautiful…”

At the sound of her voice, the unicorn let out a loud whicker and reared back onto its hind legs, jabbing its forelegs in the air. It was clearly a display that was supposed to warn her off, but…honestly it just looked lovely to her. “Oh, it’s all right, I’m not going to hurt you…”

She just wanted to be friends, obviously, and though she didn’t move any closer, she didn’t back away either, and after a moment, the unicorn spun on its hind legs and darted a good few yards away before looking back at Lysithea and giving a snort.

Its eyes were a bright pink, not the purple of the one in her memory…so she supposed that answered that question.

Still.

Finally moving a few feet backwards, though only so she could sit in the middle of some of the best smelling of the flowers…or at least the closest that smelled good, Lysithea drew her knees up and just watched the unicorn, a fond, excited smile on her face.

A few times, the unicorn seemed to think about coming closer, but then would snort and prance away again, kicking and just making a spectacle of itself…and Lysithea wasn’t mad about it at all. It was quite a show, and she was here for it.

Well, she was here for it until her stomach started to rumble. It was time to go back to camp but…

One last look around the area had her thinking, another grin lighting her face up as she broke into a run, trying to get back to her tent as quickly as possible.

Several of her food supplies were shoved into her subspace pocket, and she folded the tent back up, tucking her blanket into the subspace pocket too after folding it as small as possible.

The plastic tub she left under the tree, it would be fine, there hasn’t been any critters that had thumbs…yet…so. The rest of her supplies would be safe.

The walk back to the flowers was taken a little more slowly, and she was pleased to find the unicorn watching her as she approached, though it again gave a defiant snort and trotted off.

That was fine, they were still strangers, but…she would be able to get to know it a bit better now that she was here…and now that she knew it was here.

Lysithea set her tent up once again and settled herself in it to eat her dinner, the entryway wide open so that she could still watch the unicorn frolicing and grazing. She wanted to tell someone but…sending a text about finding such a creature seemed…

Highly impersonal but…

She held her phone up and tried to snap a picture of the unicorn, though of course it turned at the last moment, leaving nothing more than a large white blob, though the silver horn seemed to stand out…a large white horned blob. That.

Yeah. That fit.

Laughing to herself, Lysithea wrote a quick message and sent it off to Alastor.

Quote:
Hey! I’m up on my homeworld again…and I have something new! A unicorn! It’s…not my biggest fan, and we’re not friends yet but…I wanted to let you know! I hope that you can come up here and maybe bring your family with you sometime! Everyone should see unicorns!

With the text sent, a great yawn overcame her and Lysithea chuckled softly. “Goodnight, unicorn. You’re obviously not the Peony that I saw in my memory…but i hope that you and I can be friends like her and Peony were…”

Her words were soft, and she spent another few moments just watching the creature before she pulled her blanket out of subspace and shut the flap of her tent, settling down to sleep.

Maybe tomorrow she would be able to show the unicorn that she meant no harm. Or, maybe tomorrow she would find something even more wonderful up here. That…was more likely, honestly. But. For now.

Sleep and more wonderful dreams.
