Talia had hurried home and looked through the different rooms on the first floor, hoping that she saw someone who wasn’t Todd first. Not that she didn’t adore Todd, but…he wasn’t from Earth, and asking him for advice on what to take on a camping trip wasn’t really…
Going to work for what she was trying to do.
Making her way to the kitchen, Talia’s face lit up when she saw Evan. “Hey! I need your help…have you ever been camping before?”
She was sure it wasn’t the most out there question he had been asked by her in recent times…and she knew that it wasn’t the most out there question that she had asked in recent times, but…she awaited Evan’s response with wide, bright eyes.
“I want to take a week or so and just…spend it up on Lysithea, but…I want a tent and obviously will need some food, but definitely a tent since there are critters now, cute critters but…not ones I’d want like…crawling on me, you know?”

Evan had a mouthful of grilled cheese sandwich in his mouth and blinked up at Talia as if he’d been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He wasn’t doing anything wrong, he’d just zoned out and been surprised to see her–and surprised by the amount of sandwich he’d managed to stick in his mouth at once while he had zoned out.
It took him a few seconds to chew and swallow.
“Yeah, I’ve been camping,” he said slowly, a bit uncertainly. It wasn’t at her! It was just a long time ago. It wasn’t like he’d done it in recent years so he had to dig deep in his memory to recall. Naturally, he’d worry about her being gone, but he trusted that she knew what she was doing.
“I think that sounds like a lot of fun. I mean, a bit more adventurous than I think I could stomach, I like my bed too much, but–you know, I’m not surprised to hear that you want to do something exciting, that actually seems right up your alley. What do you need help with, just getting the supplies and stuff?”

“Right?” She plopped herself down in one of the kitchen chairs and just seemed to melt into it. “Yeah, I mean, I’m just not sure what’s best, and I know if I went alone, I’d most likely get utterly overwhelmed and talk myself out of even going so…I’d appreciate you being with me, and you know what food keeps the best.”
Talia didn’t laugh at him for his sandwich, and even though he was terribly cute, she kept her opinion to herself and instead simply focused on his words.
“And I figure, camping on my own homeworld is going to be the safest place for me to really go…I haven’t seen any bears up there or..anything dangerous, you know? There’s bugs, and the bats and the goats and bunnies, but so far, no bears at all, super safe.”

Evan nodded and took a few seconds to process what she was considering. “Well, I mean, I guess it might be good to get out. And it’s just shopping. If you want, we can go do some research online to see if anything is more recommended, that might make it less overwhelming?”
He didn’t like to be outside for any longer than necessary, and it never hurt to be prepared. He was very frugal! And very careful.
Even if Tobias had all the money any of them could ever need, Evan had always worked hard to be able to take care of himself and pay his fair share of everything.
“I’ll miss you when you go. But I’ll make sure you’re as safe and comfortable as possible, at least. You’ll have to let me know if you want me to bake you anything, too. Just promise you won’t push yourself too hard? Come home if you need a break or anything, okay?”

Talia laughed softly, shaking her head. “Let’s just go, if it’s overwhelming, so be it. I’ve got a crazy half baked scheme and idea and I just…want to do it before I chicken out. If you don’t want to come, that's fine! No worries. I’ll always want you to make food for me though, that’s a silly thing to even say.” She hugged him gently and then nudged his shoulder with her own. “I can’t see anything bad happening up on my homeworld, and I do feel like it would be good for me to spend some time up there for more than just…you know, kidnapping people or using it as a safe place to talk…and I want to spend time alone there. I haven’t done much of that since I’ve been back, and I deserve it. Lysithea the place deserves it.”
At least, it sounded nice when it was said like that.
She hesitated and shrugged slightly. “Honestly, I haven’t really been feeling like me lately, and when I think about it…I’m not sure what I’m even supposed to feel like so…I guess I want to figure that out too…and up on Lysithea seems like a great place for self reflection, don’t you think?”

Evan nodded understandingly; even if he hadn’t spent a lot of time on his homeworld, there was still something undeniably safe about it. Something arguably therapeutic–if he could avoid the traps for long enough to appreciate it.
“It makes sense to me. It’s peaceful up there. And easy to relax. I think, if you need some time to yourself to clear your head, it sounds like the perfect place. Yeah, that’s a good idea. Let’s go get you whatever you need.”
He smiled, with a bit of renewed vigor. “You won’t chicken out, there’s nothing to be afraid of. Maybe you’ll find something neat? It’s crazy how much is up there that we don’t know about. But your world is really nice, Talia. And if you were going to go anywhere to clear your head, it’s a safe place. I should spend more time on my world, too. It just feels like there’s so much up there, it’s a little overwhelming. But I guess we all have to start somewhere. So–yeah. I support you. Let’s go make sure you have everything you need.”

Talia brightened, nodding. “All right! Let’s go then…and if it works out with my world, I’d be happy to camp with you up on yours someday! She looked so excited, and linked her arm through Evan’s, not wanting to let this momentum ease. If they were going, then they were going...and it was going to be fun. Hopefully.
Outdoor stores were not in her wheelhouse, but…she could learn. And she had a buddy so…it was time to get supplies and start this crazy camping trip.
Laughing, she grabbed her wallet and tugged Evan out of the house, not wanting either of them to change their mind.
