There was something very magical about fall around Destiny City. Leaves were changing colors before the trees they were attached to shed them en mass. The air became crisper and it was during this season that being an animal came in handy. Illyria's fur was growing in to prep the tiny Mauvian for the coming of winter. It was perhaps a good thing that she had places that she could winter (haha, good one Illyria) out winter.

It was with these happy thoughts that Illyria's paw steps were taking her towards one such open set of doors in which she could find company and some shelter.

Or they would have if not for the innocuous object that lay directly in front of her. Her gaze grew wide before she stopped all forward motions. Sitting down Illyria stared down at the die that now lay at her feet. In order to make sure that no one else stumbled across this cursed object did that mean she'd have to run through that illuminated pathway again?

Resigned to her fate to make the sacrifice so that another helpless individual did not, did Illyria scoop up the die before experiencing the same gust of wind that had struck her before. Here we go again...

Why was she sacrificing herself to this fate? Illyria's gaze at least was able to function just a little better than your average human in this square. Fog had set in as soon as the walls preventing her from moving any further forward and she was currently slinking along being very cautious not to disrupt her slow but steady pace. Her ears twitched sporadically even as she felt the moisture from the fog gather in her lengthening fur, weighing her down.

For a moment Illyria stopped to sit down and shake out the excess moisture that was gathered onto her paws. This really, really sucked. At least though so far she wasn't having too much trouble, yet. Let's just through this one more time. The things I do for those fighting in Destiny City.

Sure the thought wasn't charitable but Illyria was thinking that perhaps she should have left the die alone or try to put it into the path of someone affiliated with chaos.

Slinking lower to remain closer to the floor did Illyria push forward by letting the die drop to the floor in an impromptu roll. Let's get outta here. Slow and steady.

A strange fog rolls in once you land here. You lose sight of nearly everything, including the game board. If you want to roll, you’re going to have to get close to the ground to even see where you’re supposed to go next. Hopefully nothing sneaks up behind you.

At first Illyria wasn't sure what she was hearing overhead. The flapping of wings, sure, but they didn't sound like the sounds associated with feathered wings. That in itself was peculiar to the Mauvian. So if it wasn't birds that she was hearing then what was it? All at once did the high-pitched sounds reach her ears and Illyria almost flattened them over in an attempt to block out the screeches. This was horrible. The tiny cat wasn't fond of the noises, that was for sure.

Suppressing the urge to physically cover her ears with her paws did the cat instead lash the ground with her tail before thinking that maybe it would be best if she could move out of this square then maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

As soon as that decision was made though Illyria began to feel as if she couldn't concentrate on what she was trying to do. The feline felt as if the world was spinning around her and as she put a paw down on the ground to move forward she felt her axis tilt and she sprawled over onto her side. What was causing her to feel like this? Surely it wasn't normal when confronted with unusual sounds. Instead of making the argument to stay and observe the phenomena that she was experiencing Illyria was of the opinion that fleeing this square was for the best. Who was sure what would happen if she continued to linger. Picking up the die for a new roll Illyria steadied herself for whatever lay ahead.

Space 7:
Something is twitching and flapping above you, and while you might be minding your own business, something is a little too invested in what you’re doing. You can’t see them, but you suddenly hear shrill, high pierced noises that are disorienting and confusing. They can bring about dizziness and pain and can cause vertigo if you’re stuck in them for too long.

As the first scent of saltwater hit her nostrils did Illyria remember what happened last time. The boat she found herself on this time was different from the first one but still the Mauvian knew what was coming. Sure enough the songs from those beneath the surface stirred all sorts of desires in her mind. She needed to join in, she needed to be in the water ... she needed to wake up from the spell that was trying to ensnare her mind again.

The determination alone to best those that were trying to draw her to them took it's toll on the feline. Illyria found herself weeping as she tried to fasten some sort of restraint around her body that would at least allow her to get back to the boat if she found herself in the water once more. It was hard to ignore the siren song. Illyria's effort was rewarded in a smaller fashion then she would have liked. She still found herself wanting to dive into the water but she was able to find resistance in the form of the rope that she had managed to tie herself to. She wept with the desire that filled her tiny body even as she tried to inure herself to the sensations coursing through her. She'd not fail this time. Rolling the die she found the scenario fading away to be replaced with something else.

Space 9:
The smell of saltwater fills the air, and you can hear the water lapping against the shore. You hear boards creaking, and bells in the distance. And then, a song. Haunting. Ghostly, and calling you. For a second, you fall in love. And then, water fills your lungs. You’re choking, you can’t breathe. The song is loud and seems to caress you, even as a wet chill gathers in your square. Scaly hands reach for you, you gently caressing, and try to lure you into an endless sleep.

At first Illyria was relieved to be out of the square that housed the sirens of the ocean. And even better was it looked like she was getting closer and closer to hitting the end square which would have been a quicker journey than the last one. However much her mind was keen on getting out of here though there were still obstacles to contend with: and it looked like the newest one was keen on attacking her small frame from above.

High chittering noises, similar to what she'd heard before (maybe), was the only warning that she got before they descended. They were angry. They were hard to avoid. They were bats!

Illyria felt their wings buffet her smaller frame but not only were their wings smacking her but a few had managed to land and sink their teeth into her flesh. Yowling and getting instantly annoyed did Illyria raise up and try smacking a few of those still flying out of the air. If she was going down she'd take a few of them with her. Her gaze landed on her die and she pounced forward before having it roll across the ground. Success ... the bats took off and Illyria darted out of the square onto hopefully finish this cursed dice game once and for all.

Space 15:
Bats. Maybe you missed them attacking earlier, but they’re back again, and angrier than ever. Instead of just screeching or scratching, they’re swooping down and biting now–and the effects are instantaneous. The little teeth are sharp and painful, but once bitten you might feel agitated and prone to violence, and you might feel perpetually cold and hungry with no relief in sight. The effects might last when you leave the square–or they might linger for a few hours or days after you get out of here.

Illyria's paws stopped on the next square and she was dismayed that it seemed as if her latest roll was just one shy of the needed amount to get out of here. Her gaze lit on the glowing platform just beyond the glass wall before her paws picked up the tiniest of rumblings beneath them. Instantly the small cat went on high alert. Was something going to happen to the ground she was standing on? Almost as soon as she mentally asked herself that did the ground shift even more.

There was no place to escape to as Illyria suddenly found herself falling into a deep cavern as the ground crumbled beneath her paws. Her surprised cry was swallowed up as she continued to plummet before her paws snagged on an outcropping of rock. It wasn't the Ritz but having a place that she was able to pull herself up onto, a ledge, was a blessing in any form. Observing the depth of the hole beyond did Illyria start to pick up on the differences in the rock face that she had fallen into. Where those places that she could use to hoist herself back up to the main level of this square? Was there still a square left?

Choosing her steps carefully saw the Mauvian painstakingly arrive to the lip of the crevasse before she wearily spit out the die from her mouth. She was beyond caring about what she was facing now as the rolling die promised her a release from this hellish place. Enough was enough.

Space 19:
You’re so close! Almost at the end! But the space you’re standing on shifts and shakes and seems to crumble beneath you. You have to hold on; there’s nowhere to fall but down into the deep abyss. If you manage to hang on for long enough, you find some invisible purchase and can pull yourself back up, but it’s quite the ordeal. Make sure you don’t get cut on falling spaces! The ground restores itself once you roll again.

Illyria stumbled onto the glowing platform with a sigh of relief. She waited for the telltale aura that would encompass her form in order to take her back to Destiny City.

She didn't wait very long.

Once the aura faded and she found herself back in the city proper did Illyria once again drop the die into the closest sewer grate that she came across before shivering a little. Two times was two times too much. Illyria wanted a nice, normal rest of autumn.

Quote:
Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.
