The Noises (9) : There’s a noise somewhere around you and you don’t know where it’s coming from, or what it is. Maybe it’s the sound of something otherwise normal–glasses clinking, someone walking, a clock chiming–except, it doesn’t belong there. It’s a common noise, it just has no source. Or, maybe it’s something scarier–a whisper, a scratch, and wail. The noises come and go without any apparent source. It’s constant. For minutes, or hours, or days. And then, it stops, with no explanation, and that’s almost as scary as when it started.

How long the noises had been happening, Kai couldn't say for sure. They could have started while he was on shift at the restaurant but were drowned out by the rest of the normal every day noised that come with that. Or they could have started when he actually registered them on his way back home. It had started with what it sounded like steps behind him, which he hadn't been alarmed by until when he turned a corner he didn't see anyone on the side walk behind him.

The young man had paused only for a half second before continuing with a slightly faster pace, pushing it from his mind for now as they had stopped. But then when he was two blocks away from home the footsteps had started back up and this time was joined by some distorted sounding humming. Kai looked quickly around but still there was nothing to be seen. "Oh you can go jump into a lake." He said out loud, the hair on the back of his neck and on his arms raised. At that point he sped up once again as he crossed the distance only to break out into a full on run when those steps when from sounding like they were 'walking' to 'charging'.

It didn't take him long to make it into the apartment building and he slowed down on his way up to their apartment when it became clear the sounds had stopped again. He wasn't relaxed, just had forced himself to slow down, so as to no alarm anyone he might have passed by. It wasn't until he was closing and locking the apartment door behind him that he let himself relax. "I'm back."

He had tried to keep his voice steady when he had called out, had tried to not let his fear of what just happened show in anyway. The pounding of his heart was finally slowing down to a normal beat now that he was home safely and Kai frankly didn't want to think about what just happened. A lot of horror movies and situations were like water off a ducks back to him, but ghosts? Ghosts scared him to the bone, though he had no idea why that was. Not that what happened was necessarily a ghost, it was more likely to be part of the cities weirdness then a true, real ghost.

That didn't stop him from freaking out like it had been though. He took a few deep breathes and slid out of his shoes before continuing farther into the apartment. As he made his way towards the bedroom so he could take a shower and get changed a shiver went down his spine as his mind circled right back to what had just happened while he was outside. This was going to bother him the rest of the day wasn't it? His stride picked up in speed, more determined then ever to get clean and comfortable before getting under the covers and snuggling down. Maybe Xi-wang or Gab was available for cuddles too.
