Space 0:
You have arrived here; nothing happens until you roll your die.

She should never have reached down and picked up that die.

That was the thought that was upmost in Linnaeite's mind as she stared at the line of spaces that seemed to unwind in front of her and stretch out into the distance - with each square of space numbered.

Her sister had actually warned about holidays in Destiny City and had reminded her that the awfulness that she had found herself caught up in during the Charity Benefit a couple of years back tended to be the rule rather than the exception–

But the six-sided die had seemed so innocuous, if unusual - because it wasn't every day that one came across a discarded six-sided die.

Only there had been a strange harsh wind that had suddenly slammed into her just as Linnae fingers closed around the die–

And now she found herself here - wherever here was.

Not that looking around her current space had yielded any answers as to what she was supposed to do next, although Linnae figured that she could at least cross off trying to walk out of the square given that her attempts at doing so had resulted in her feeling like she had walked right up and into a glass wall.

Space 5:
A dog barks, fierce and frightening. You can hear its growl and the hackles stand up on the back of your neck. You can practically feel spittle on you. It’s close. And it’s big. And it’s angry. If this beastly dog could reach you, no doubt it would try to tear you to shreds.

Linnaeite wasn't sure what had made her roll the die in her hands, and it hadn't even been that much of a roll.

It had been enough to send the die tumbling until it settled on a number–

And it had been enough for a mysterious force to spring up from out of nowhere and send her stumbling forwards.

The growling had started up as soon as she landed in the space proper and had been soon followed by the sound of fierce barking that in no shape or form sounded friendly.

Backing up had only ended up landing her back against another mysteriously invisible wall that felt like walking into glass–

And the barking seemed to be getting closer.

In the end Linnae had ended up rolling the die.

It had been a desperation move - a 'I don't think it will do anything, but I am desperate move' - but she had been relieved when the mysterious force sprung up once again.

Space 8:
Something slithers across your foot, so fast that you might have thought you imagined it. Except, a few seconds later, it happens again. And then, again. Snakes keep moving across your space. If you move, they see you–and they might bite. Some of them hiss, some are capable of spraying a poisonous liquid that can cause itchiness or burning.

Linnaeite hadn't been in the space for very long when something slithered over her foot, although it had been so fast that she thought she had imagined it–

Well at least that was until it happened again after a few seconds and then yet again a few seconds after that.

It was creepy and she had done her best to try and ignore it, but the hissing had been the last straw because it had sounded almost like a–

"Snake!" Her voice came out in a shrill almost screech as Linnae looked down in time to see one zip across her feet, jerking back almost instinctively.

Only–

Only, it had turned out to be a mistake as all the snakes had turned to look at her and the hissing had sounded as threatening as the barking from the previous space.

Space 12:
The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here.

A couple of the snakes had managed to spray some sort of liquid at her and it had made her legs start to itch when some of it had managed to hit bare skin - but somehow she must have had enough presence of mind to roll the die, as the strange force had once again sprung up and pushed her into this new space–

A new space that full of smoke and the sounds of distance screams.

Linnaeite coughed, eyes tearing - and whilst she wasn't able to see just what it was that was burning, it was hard to miss the panic and alarm that seemed to fill the air.

Space 13:
At first, the square is quiet. Nothing seems amiss. It’s unnerving in how safe it seems. But then, it only takes a few seconds before you understand why. It’s just taken a moment for them to get to you. The patter of tiny feet is rapidly approaching. There’s no light to see them, but there’s a reflection in their beady eyes. Rats. Thousands of them. Chittering, frothing in the mouth. These are strangely grotesque, mutated abominations. They’re running at you like they haven’t got a fear in the world–only, hungry. And rage. If they get to you, they’ll eat you alive. The ground is trembling with their weight. You’d better roll quickly if you don’t wind up a meal.

Whilst rolling the die had helped her to escape the smoke-filled square of space, Linnaeite hadn't been able to stop herself for trying to brace for whatever she was going to end up finding herself being pushed into–

After all, it wasn't as if she had a particularly great experience with the previous spaces, with it first being dogs and then snakes and now smoke.

This particular space had seemed mercifully quiet however, enough so for Linnae to find herself pausing whilst trying to catch her breath.

It wasn't to be, a patter of sound, almost as if something was trying to rapidly head in her direction–

She wasn't prepared for rats or for the way that beady eyes seemed to fixate on her even as the wave of chitterling rats started to flow in her direction.

Space 15:
Bats. Maybe you missed them attacking earlier, but they’re back again, and angrier than ever. Instead of just screeching or scratching, they’re swooping down and biting now–and the effects are instantaneous. The little teeth are sharp and painful, but once bitten you might feel agitated and prone to violence, and you might feel perpetually cold and hungry with no relief in sight. The effects might last when you leave the square–or they might linger for a few hours or days after you get out of here.

By the time that Linnaeite ended up in this particular new space, she had come to the conclusion that something had it out for her–

It was hard not to come to that conclusion given what she had stumbled onto so far, especially when a set of screeching bats had come swooping down to harass her and getting tangled up in the long hair that seemed to be part and parcel of powering up into Linnaeite.

She had reached up with her hands to try and at least do her best to try and keep the bats away from her face–

But all that had done was let a bat et a lucky bite in.

Well okay more intentional than lucky, even if Linnaeite had no idea where any of these things were even coming from–

That and she was now finding herself both cold and hungry, goosebumps sending hairs prickling and rising even as Linnae's stomach grumbled at her that it was hungry.

Space 19:
You’re so close! Almost at the end! But the space you’re standing on shifts and shakes and seems to crumble beneath you. You have to hold on; there’s nowhere to fall but down into the deep abyss. If you manage to hang on for long enough, you find some invisible purchase and can pull yourself back up, but it’s quite the ordeal. Make sure you don’t get cut on falling spaces! The ground restores itself once you roll again.

Despite everything that the spaces had thrown at her so far, Linnaeite couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration when the mysterious force had pushed into this particular space–

Because the dark wooden platform that had seemed so far away back at the start of all of this, now seemed almost frustratingly close.

Close enough to–

Linnae shrieked as the ground chose that moment to shift and then crumble from under her shoes, a hand reaching up frantically.. Awkwardly. Desperation having her hand managing curve round and hold onto something even as the ground continued to crumble and shake.

Space 20:
The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.

Linnaeite still wasn't too sure just how she had managed to escape the previous space, but somehow, somehow, she had managed to roll the die one last time and it had been enough to get the strange force to push her one last space over.

She had found herself sitting in this new space, shoulders shaking and her heartbeat loud in her ears as she stared back at the latest space that had just tried to kill her–

One that was looking awfully normal - like it hadn't just up and crumbled from under her feet.

Eventually however, Linnae had managed to get up onto her feet, helped a little by the fact that this new space hadn't tried to kill her.

Well at least not yet it hadn't–

And if her legs were a little shaky when she finally managed to stumble over to the portal with the pretty opalescent aura, well it wasn't as if there was anyone to see, as after a few moments of hesitation Linnae finally stepped on through.
