Prompt 9: The Noises
There’s a noise somewhere around you and you don’t know where it’s coming from, or what it is. Maybe it’s the sound of something otherwise normal–glasses clinking, someone walking, a clock chiming–except, it doesn’t belong there. It’s a common noise, it just has no source. Or, maybe it’s something scarier–a whisper, a scratch, and wail. The noises come and go without any apparent source. It’s constant. For minutes, or hours, or days. And then, it stops, with no explanation, and that’s almost as scary as when it started.

Citlali was lounging on the old beat up sofa it was late at night and she had just finished up a really scary horror movie, the teenager was not usually effected by horror movies especially since she had become a senshi and seen real monsters but for this particular movie got under her skin. She was home alone because her parents were away at work Halloween party and her older brothers had gone out to hang out with their friends. It had begun to rain and the young senshi listened to the rain she had always felt an affinity with storms so normally she would feel at easy from the sound of the rain hitting her window and the occasional thunder in the distance but tonight it just set more one edge.

Suddenly lightning crashed and thunder roared as her houses power cut out. The young girl let out a shrill screech of alarm as she was suddenly plunged into darkness. She leapt to her feet and banged her knee against the coffee table. She clutched her knee in pain cursing at the offending furniture in Spanish. Once the pain had subsided she tried to calm herself down a little. "Ok Citi get ahold of yourself girl. The power just cut out that's all." She looked at her phone the charge was in the red so she couldn't use it as a battery. "Stupid, why didn't I charge this!" She chided herself as she slipped the phone into the pocket of her pajama pants. "I need to get a flashlight." She began to feel her way around the now pitch black house her only source of illumination being the occasional lightning strikes.

As she was searching for a light she suddenly heard a sound like someone whispering right by her ear. Her heart nearly leapt out of her throat as she screamed and jumped. She spun on her heels hands up ready to fight whoever was behind her, however there was no one there. That really disturbed the young girl. "You're just hearing things, its that movie getting to you." She tried to reassure herself. Then she remembered her dad kept a lanter style light downstairs just for situations like this when the power failed. She carefully made her way to the downstairs. The dark basement was very foreboding in the absolute darkness. She steeled her nerves and made her way down. She quickly enough found the lantern when she sudden heard another whisper "Behind you." The whisper said. Citi screamed again reaching into her pocket in a panic, she pulled out her Henshin Pen. "Quetzálcoatl Power, Make-Up!" She cried as she was surround by cataclysmic winds turning into her senshi form. She grabbed the lantern and ran to the downstairs bathroom without looking back. She climbed into the mirror above the sink and used it to mirror travel up to her bedroom's full length mirror. She quickly locked her bedroom door and window. She grabbed a blanket and huddled down powering down in the process. She stayed like that until her parents got home. The part though was that this was not the last time she heard the whisper for the next few days whenever she was alone she heard the voice again, sending a shiver down her spine and making her heart stop. She vowed to never watch a horror movie alone ever again.
