The Gargoyles (7) : By all accounts, you should have seen the last of them. The Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, but it seems like some of them did escape into Destiny City. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough. Powered characters can use one roleplay with an attacking stone beast to count as a battle requirement if they are roleplaying with another powered character.

She was as big as a house! Massive! Huge! Cargo ships had nothing on her! At least that was how she felt. Dessie was 6 months pregnant and had never felt larger. Or in ‘baby’ terms, 27 weeks and 6 days… it was some massive BS that everything seemed to be in weeks now and not months when figuring everything out. It was annoying! She hated it. She hated having to accommodate her widening girth. She hated having to pee every five minutes it seemed. She hated how nothing seemed to fit right, and the looks she got since she still looked fairly young for 22, nearly 23. Just two more days and she will be 23. Pregnant and without the father in sight.

She had done the ‘right’ thing and mailed him, snail mail since she didn’t have any of his new electronic contact information, but hadn’t heard anything back from him. That was fine since apparently their friendship was only as long as their college years were. That one night was just one night after all. It didn’t mean anything. It didn’t hurt that he didn’t even bother to contact her when she wrote that she really, really, really needed to talk to him. It didn’t hurt at all.

b*****d.

Letting out a frustrated huff the blonde leveraged herself off of the bus bench she had taken a quick break on and continued on her way to one of the neighborhood stores that had the ‘desire’. Namely they had the one kind of chips flavor that she couldn’t find anywhere else that she was craving. Man, when cravings hit they were mean sometimes. In this case it meant a ‘short’ 30 minute walk over two blocks and across a park to the convenience store, where the clerk was super nice. She always kept one or two bags of chips in the back just in case a craving hit Dessie, that way they were never fully sold out. It was a kindness that the young woman appreciated.

As she waddled down the street, movement above had her glancing that way, quickly spotting the stone gargoyle perched on the roof ledge on a building that was too modern to need a gargoyle… let alone a stone one. It was ugly, like ‘U’, ‘G’, ‘L’, ‘Y’ kind of ugly. So strange looking that it stood out more because of it. It did not belong to that building that was for sure.

Suspecting something fishy, and chaotic, Dessie slipped her hand into her bag that was slung across her body and gripped the telescoping baton she had picked up some weeks back. She couldn’t power up if that thing attacked but hell would freeze over if she didn’t fight back to protect herself and her baby. She kept an eye on it as she approached, it just stared. A penetrative gaze. Like a hawk eyeing up a mouse. A long gaze that locked into your very soul.

She was ready for it to swoop down on her, claws extended. Dessie was just waiting and walking. Feeling those eyes on her. Even when she turned the corner it felt like the eyes were still on her, and yet nothing happened. No attack came. Nothing other than a chill up her back and the stink eye. Nothing at all.

That was honestly more worrying.

Dessie hurried on her way trying to get to the convenience store sooner, it didn’t hurt that she also had to pee now. Again, a nice thing the clerk did was let her use the staff only restroom, which she really appreciated.

If the gargoyle was there on the way back she would be prepared that was for sure.
