Without anything in the way of chores or group activities on the agenda, Endellion was free to pursue her own hobbies. She would quite often take little samples from herbs she’d never tasted before, plants that weren’t as common, and muck that might otherwise be just that; muck. All of her ingredients were kept below decks, in a little nook she’d come to call ‘The Infirmary’ which was really just a spot on the ship that didn’t have freight at that moment.

There wasn’t much in the way of light in ‘The Infirmary’, so Del did her best to get around by memory alone. When she rounded a barrel, however, and stepped on something squishy that scurried away she let out a scream. It didn’t take the little one long to pop up onto the next level of the ship, eyes cast down the darkened steps like it were hell itself.

Imani had simply been looking for a quiet place to pass time on the ship before learning from passing crew that there was something scuttling below deck. A soft sigh left the boy's lips as he figured that he could surely leave that to the crew, but of course a scream came from the darkness and caught his attention almost immediately. "Endellion?" The name came out of his lips in a rush as he moved forward, the book that he had been holding falling behind onto a crate as he went in search of his sibling. While others may have been a little less worried about the other boy, Imani was super protective of his sibling and the urgency in his steps proved that as he sought her out.

"You okay?" He called out as he saw the familiar figure of his sibling emerging from the lower levels, Imani's steps slowing now that he saw Endellion was seemingly alright and not tangled up in something. Still though what would have caused a scream like that? The very question made him furrow his brow with concern as he moved forward to start inspecting his sibling, a gentle hand patting the shoulders and arms as if looking for some sort of open wounds.

Endellion’s bare toes tapped out an anxious dance on the chilly decking. She wrapped her arms around her torso, a barely repressed shiver running up her spine. Whatever it was was still down there…slinking around her space…

When a familiar voice called out to her she turned, relief flooding her when Imani came into view. “No! There’s a monster in the infirmary!” She pointed down the deep, dark steps that surely curled into a demons lair and not into simple storage. “I was going to make a new salve and I stepped on it. It’s sticky and awful.”

A brow raised at the accusation and slowly the pieces started to come together in Imani's mind. "A monster..." He repeated quietly before glancing back down towards the darker steps, another soft sigh leaving his lips. "I see." His hands retreated from Endellion's shoulders so that he could run a hand through his hair instead. It was one thing if the creature was scuttling around the crew, but another thing entirely if it was in Endellion's infirmary. The last thing Imani wanted was for others snooping in the area and so it seemed that this would be his problem after all.

"What if I go with you? Could I help you to capture and get rid of whatever it is?" He did grimace a bit at the thought of something being sticky and awful though....what could it even be?

“It’s real.” Endellion huffed, squaring up her shoulders, all the while keeping her arms crossed around her chest. If Imani didn’t believe her then no one would, but someone would find it which could be a problem. She’d already been busted for keeping some…questionable things in jars before, but so long as it wasn’t a threat to anyone she could have her things. This though…this might change that.

“If you think you can. If we can capture it then that’s best, but if we can only shoo it somewhere else then I’m okay with that too.” At least then the adults could handle it. “Just…maybe you should go first. It probably knows my scent.”

"I believe you." Imani reassured Endellion without missing a beat, his expression thoughtful as he glanced back towards his sibling. "It's more that I'm worried about what the creature is." The very description was enough to send a chill down his spine, the boy definitely not fond of anything sticky or like slime. Though with his sibling's history he had to wonder if she already knew what the creature could be. As long as it doesn't cause a rash or a worse reaction... The last thing they needed was for something toxic to be hopping around the ship like that one time. His gaze flickered back towards the darkness, a sudden wariness coming over him at the memory.

"Okay, but don't leave me if I fall on something." Imani instructed as he took a step forward. "Do you have a box or anything I can use?" He knew there were several crates down here so maybe one or two would be empty. If this creature wasn't from Endellion's collection then maybe it had stowed away on one of the newer crates from Matori. "Can it be tossed overboard or should it be captured and released when we dock at the next town tomorrow? That is...if we know what this thing is."

Endellion shook her head. “Never.” She would be far enough back that Imani would be the first to deal with the beast, but not the only one. Scared as she was of what lurked beyond the grave she wasn’t about to send her twin in alone. “I have lots of boxes. Some jars too if that would be easier? But what if it’s too big…” She murmured, as if the sound of her voice would usher the thing straight toward them.

“All of my boxes are down there though…” She motioned toward the darkness with a hesitant nod of the head. “If it bites you don’t panic; your blood moves faster and so does the venom.”

"A box works." Confirmed Imani as he continued down into the darkness, the boy fiddling in his satchel for a match so that he could light the candle he always carried. Being prepared was his thing and you couldn't read without any light so he always carried a candle and a set of matches with him. "I'm afraid of dropping a jar and causing a worse mess."

Raising his candle so that the flame lit up the area around them, the flickering light casting shadows from the bigger crates and various barrels, Imani frowned. "Where did you encounter it?" He asked Endellion while trying his best to not linger on the idea of being bitten and dealing with venom. Just suck and spit. That was how they dealt with snake bites at least. Imani's face paled at the thought even as he tried to remain calm and strong for his sibling's sake.

“A little bit further. I was almost to the infirmary when I touched it.” Which meant it had happened in the farthest reaches of the hold, and Endellion wasn’t ready for that. She took a deep breath to steady her nerves, then slowly reached out for a halfempty box of papers. They were old drawings she’d ‘borrowed’ from a man in Matori about toe fungus, and while the contents may have been odd the box itself was decent. She held it out, each step slower than the last, as they crept around in search of the beastie.

Though they didn’t have to look for long. In a matter of moments a little sticky shaped dropped from the ceiling…directly onto Imani’s shoulder.

Okay, so it was almost at the infirmary and not directly there. Imani swallowed as he continued forward, his heart beat echoing in his ears and around every corner that they took. "So far I don't see any-" He began hopeful that the thing had already skittered away into some unknown place where they wouldn't have to deal with it, but then the worse situation happened and Imani found himself freezing in place.

"Endellion." He spoke calmly and loudly enough so that his sibling could hear each and every word. "Get a box and bring it over." Imani's whole body was tight, the sensation of chills making his neck tense as he felt the little feet suctioning on and off of his neck as the thing moved around as if looking for another path down. Unfortunately for Imani the slimy sensation did not leave his neck area as the thing seemed to settle since the boy was no longer moving. All he could do was stand there, the white blob in the corner of his gaze as he tried to figure out what strange creature had decided to grace them with its presence. "If you could hurry but be quiet at the same time...I would appreciate it." He managed, each word drawn out slowly and carefully as to not disturb the occupant on his shoulder.

Endellion's blood could have fueled a storm with all the energy it was thrumming. Every little noise caught the child's attention and she found herself sticking closer to Imani's candlelight. When her name was called something about the tone sounded off and when she turned her eyes widened.

She could just barely make out a figure clinging to his neck before it shifted away from the light. Scrunching her face up in a mixture of fear and disgust, Endellion slowly came closer. She held it out as far from her body as she could, but kept steady as she leveled it closer to the creature. Even though Endellion was technically close enough now to properly see the monster she couldn't because her eyes were shut tight.

"I think I recognize it." Imani murmured faintly as he noticed his own sister's distress. Was this an alol from Matori? Had it snuck into the cargo at their last stop before hiding out here below decks? No wonder the crew were having so much trouble finding and catching it since they rarely ventured down here save for whenever the Misty Maiden had a two year clean out as his papa called it. They'd remove any sign of the cargo down here that was hidden in the darkness while giving the crew a chance to stay around their home towns in Belrea for a good three months or more instead of sailing right away. Still, from the blurry side image that Imani got of the creature it seemed very pale compared to all the other alol he had ever seen before. What type of ghost stories had it started since living on the ship? As the box leveled closer to his shoulder, Imani had to stop from screaming as the sticky tongue flicked out towards his neck as if a drop of sweat there was some sort of drink for the alol. Gross!

He couldn't wait any longer. Imani's whole body was tense and on edge as he quickly moved to snag the box and sweep the alol from his shoulder into the container. "G-got it." He managed as he slapped the lid down on the thing and held it a few inches away from his body. He still felt chills and little shivers like the thing was still crawling along his skin. Ugh. Imani's gaze sought out Endellion and he didn't even bother trying to force a smile. "You didn't want a pet...did you?" They would simply have to let it back out whenever they got to the next port in Matori though there was a bit of guilt on Imani's expression. Didn't pale creatures like these have bad luck with life in the wild? Wasn't that why they were so rare to find?

"You do?" That was enough for Endellion to slowly open one eye followed by it's pair. Since Imani didn't seem to be moving she ventured a half step forward to hazard a closer look. "Oh! That's the alol that I...." Endellion clamped her mouth shut and swallowed back her words on flushed cheeks. The exact moment she caught sight of the creatures large, otherwordly eyes she knew exactly what had happened. Or rather, what shouldn't have been.

"So um...when I bought it the seller said it was dead? I just wanted to see if it was true that their skin could...y'know, do stuff? It's a lot prettier alive but it wasn't moving in the box." The longer she talked the higher pitched voice got as if she were trying to make it seem like she wasn't some sort of monster herself for keeping an obviously living creature in a box for Gods knew how long.

"I don't want it for a pet, but if you wanted to keep it you could. Just...don't tell anyone I brought it here. Say it snuck in."

Imani simply blinked and then blinked again. So his sibling....had brought in the alol?! "You..." He started before taking a deep breath and shifting so that the box was held closer to his body. "Really have to make certain of your purchases." Imani finished lamely as he took a peek towards the creature, a slight frown crossing his features. As supportive as he wanted to be of his sibling's endeavors there was something that didn't settle with him when it came to creatures, even slimy things like this one, being involved.

Add in the fact that it probably would not be any better off in the wild and Imani couldn't help himself. He was far too soft hearted for this. "I guess I'll set up a place for it." He acknowledged after a moment before moving past Endellion. "I'm going to go find a temporary place for it and then enjoy some reading. If you find anything else scurrying about...just let me know I suppose." Though in all honesty he truly hoped that no other creature would make an appearance for quite some time.
