“You know I really did not expect so many complications with getting an outfit designed.” Cyril complained as he sat on top of a bunch of crates, the hybrid perched perfectly with Harika hiding behind him. So far their morning had started with meetings before the troupe had a mishap with a creature once again stealing from the supply wagon, leaving everyone in a frenzy to capture the thing. Needless to say there was such a commotion that even Cyril got pulled into things and Harika was unfortunately dragged along since she had taken the day to work with him on finalizing the outfits, something that they couldn’t do until the encampment had calmed down. What if it bothers the locals once we’re gone? Even worse, what if it keeps taking our supplies and then we don’t have anything to sell at the fairgrounds on our big night?! And so here they were…sitting on top of some crates trying to figure out what elusive creature was bothering the troupe.

Harika laughed softly, the hybrid tossing her braided hair over her shoulder and crossing her legs as she relaxed during their watch. Thankfully she had opted for leggings and boots today instead of a dress like usual, the seamstress having a feeling after the last encounter with Boris that she should wear something that would let her move quickly if needed. While Cyril was bothered, Harika was simply amused by the situation. Who knew that she would be recruited to catch a creature? “So you really think dropping a trap will work?”

“It should.” Replied Cyril quietly, his gaze narrowed as he focused on the supplies scattered below. He had picked a nearby tent to throw supplies around thinking that it may be best to entice the creature in a quieter area while others made a mess of the main supply wagon, probably chasing it away and hopefully towards them. “You still have a hand on the rope, right?”

“Aye, captain.” Harika replied with a small smile. “So what do you think it could be? Doesn’t seem like an averin, those little guys usually stay and then move on to the next target quickly instead of lingering.” She had learned that herself after staying in storage for a few nights and fighting with a few averin upon her arrival in Belrea. The creatures had left quickly though and didn’t seem too bothered by her taking over their nest.

“Honestly I’m not certain. It’s nothing dangerous like a dage or folmar, thankfully.” Cyril let out a soft sigh as he pondered their options. “Our luck someone probably smuggled something in from overseas and isn’t fessing up to it.” He could already imagine a few of the troupe members who were prone to rescuing creatures from smugglers and either releasing them or bonding with them for an act. If it was Lotus then he would maim her for wasting more of his time.

“I met a dage, but never a folmar.” Whispered Harika quietly as she leaned forward. “If it’s dangerous then is it like a janarim or sermal back overseas? Those are giant lizard like mounts with claws and hard scales while the sermal is a large feline with large fangs.” She explained quietly, her gaze drifting over the tent as she tried to watch for movement on the ground below.

“Somewhat. It’s more of a dog, but nastier than any duruf.” Cyril admitted, oddly patient with Harika after remembering how shaken she was about her encounter with Boris. He truly hoped that it wasn’t anything quite so dangerous. “I’m going to give it another hour then we’re leaving and working together elsewhere, the troupe be damned.” He added quietly, his voice fading as he swore he heard something. “Wait…maybe we’re lucky.” Cyril gestured for Harika to grab onto the rope tightly, the hybrid leaning forward as he tried to get a good glimpse of the floor below them. Was something scurrying towards the treats he had scattered around?

“Oof, I’d rather not meet one then.” Harika expressed with a shiver before tensing up as Cyril gestured for her to prepare the rope. What even was that thing? Oh! Oh! A gasp left her lips as she realized that there was something scurrying across the place. Did she drop the netting now or did she wait? It didn’t seem to be in the right spot just yet…Harika waited with baited breath as she looked towards Cyril for his signal.

Oh it definitely was a strange creature. Even though Cyril couldn’t make out all of the creature’s features in the darkness, it definitely was something different from anything found in Belrea. He wanted to drop the netting quickly, but then he realized that it would simply scare the creature away and so he shook his head at Harika. They would have to wait another moment before doing anything. He just hoped no one from the troupe would walk into the tent….for a second he swore he saw something and then thankfully they walked away. Just a few more seconds and then we can capture it. Now!

Harika held her breath, trying to be as quiet as possible as they listened to the shuffling noises below. Eventually it sounded like some papers were being ripped as the creature opened a bag of treats, the hard biscuits spilling out everywhere. Wasn’t that in the spot that they had marked? Harika’s gaze widened as she looked towards Cyril who finally gave the signal to drop the net. Here goes nothing! She yanked hard on the rope sending all of the netting that they had tied above flying down towards the ground. “Did we do it?!” She whispered as she heard something squeaking below, the hybrid shifting so that she could climb down the crates after Cyril.

Slipping down the crates, Cyril twisted as he jumped so that he could land directly in front of the net and prevent whatever it was from escaping. “Got you.” But what in the heavens was the thing? It was furry with long limbs and had fingers long enough to actually tear open packaging and doors. No wonder it was so good at getting into things! Those were more like hands than normal animal paws! “This was definitely not from Belrea.” He acknowledged with a glance towards Harika. “Grab the cage? We’ll see who this little thief belongs to.”

What a long and fluffy tail! “It’s cute.” Harika admitted before jumping at the request and moving to get the cage. “Careful though.” What if it was actually more vicious than it looked? She tensed nervously waiting for Cyril to get the creature out of the netting and into the cage they had prepared. “It’s not from the other continent either. I’ve never seen anything like it in Oba or Matori.”

“Figures.” Cyril hesitated as the creature hissed at him, but he realized that it was simply more afraid and protesting about being caught than anything else. After a few careful attempts he got it into the cage which closed with a click. Just for extra measure he added a lock, suspicious of the creature that probably could slip out if he wasn’t careful enough. “We’ll show it off to the troupe and see what it is.” His gaze narrowed thoughtfully. “Maybe it’s from Kahi? I heard a few troupe members talking about a ship that recently arrived from there. I’m sure one of them will fess up and claim him.”

“Perhaps!” Harika nodded. “Now that I think about it, I overheard someone talking about long tailed creatures that were mischievous on the islands. Maybe it is from Kahi, after all.” At least they could find out now and then get back to finishing up Cyril’s designs for the festival that was in two days. “Good job.” She smiled towards Cyril and gave him a playful pat on the back before heading outside, eager for sunlight and fresh air after hiding on top of those crates for most of the morning.
