GAMEBOARD PROMPT
The nights were chilly. In fact, it was borderline cold in Heliodor's personal opinion, but thankfully magic and skipping across the city skyline helped keep any of the chill from really reaching him. Halloween wasn't far off though, so the weather was only typical. Speaking of Halloween, decor was scattered around the city. Ghouls, ghosts, pumpkins and everything else depicting some sort of monster, creatures or spirit were numerous. It added an extra fun vibe to the city that Heliodor found himself enjoying. More-so than the bright cheery lights of Christmas.
"This is probably a good area." Helio called to Albite who had joined him on the night excursion. They had chosen a part of town that catered to the middle class. People who had money to spend and thus places to be. With the holiday rolling up, people were out and about at festivals, haunted houses or parties. Of course, there was always the easy prey at the local bars.
Helio led the way down to an alleyway between a corner convenience store and what appeared to be a local co-op store. "If I remember right we aren't too far away from some sort of festival going on. Plus there's some bars in this area that may be having some halloween things going on." He shrugged. "Either way it should be easy here to hit quota." And maybe pluck a few starseeds if the opportunity arose. Since their talk with Faustite, Helio had taken it upon himself to keep a few of the delicate gems safely tucked away in case of an emergency. What exactly that emergency could be or involve he wasn't sure but having them felt like the smart move at the moment.
He stopped for a moment to stretch, arms raised above his head, fingers interlaced as he bent up and back. A small pop of his spine brought on a sigh as he dropped his arms back to his side. Brows furrowed as something caught his attention on the ground.

The upside of being an Eternal? Quota's were beneath him -- trawling alleyways and side-streets, hustling energy left n right on that good ol' energy grind. Nowadays he coulda damn well delegate all that stuff down the line. Not that he ever did, not that he intended to ever start doing so -- maybe when the team got so large and top-heavy with higher ranks that he'd have to step aside to do things more tedious than they were fun -- like paperwork -- Until then? He'd keep doing this, cause he liked getting out, getting around, and re-honing skills until they felt sharp and his body sung with the adrenaline of flexing fresh new powers.
He hadn't had his wings so long that doing so had grown boring.
Besides! What good was a commander who only talked a buncha talk n never got their hands dirty? Especially when doing so gave him all the best excuses to pair up with a teammate or two, n enjoy a good time. It seemed more often than not, a night of cruising the local scene ended cozily enough. Let him grow closer to the others, dredge up some new bit of information, tease out some fresh feature of their personalities he hadn't been privledged to witness prior.
"I hope so! Stars above know we're ********' dressed for it, you n' me'd fit into any festival or costume party this side'ah the city! Probably win first n second prize even. Oh, like, sexiest costume contest? Best special effects---" fingers interlaced behind his head, tangled between heavy locs and much lighter thoughts full of revelry, Albite watched the overcast sky, the festive decor wound round every windowsill and gargoyle strewn ledge that made the whole of the place feel more like a wonderland and less like 'city'; so-much-so that he'd missed where Heliodore'd stopped to spy something small and glitzy -- walked straight into the stretching Senshi with the kinda robes that made Albite wish he'd had him there for new years --- or a dragon festival -- or --
"Ohshit--sorry-sorry!! Wasn't paying attention!"

Helio stumbled forward a bit as Albite ran into him. "s**t." He cursed as his body naturally shifted weight to compensate for the abruptness. In the process he kicked the item that had initially caught his attention. As it skittered across the pavement it became clear that what he saw was a reflection of the lights on something in the item, but it definitely wasn't glass. Not to mention it looked perfectly square.
"No, it's alright." He waved Albite's apologies off. It was an honest mistake and it wasn't like Albite had full blown barreled into him with all of his strength. Not that have resulted in a rather ticked off super, but no reason to entertain the 'what ifs' in such a silly situation.
"You're right though. We could probably just ease right into a crowd. Hell, come to think of it, I wonder how beneficial it would be to just sneak into one of those haunted house attractions. With it being so dark it would be no work at all to get what we needed." That got the wheels in his head turning as he walked over in the direction the little glowing bauble had been kicked off to.
"Do you see that?" He questioned as he found it again sitting next to a, thankfully, empty trash bin. Another little identical bauble sat not far from it. As he neared he squatted down to better look at the item. "Dice?" What else could it be. There were numbers carved on it's wooden sides with a beautiful stone running through it. Opal perhaps? Mothe rof pearl? It was a bit hard to tell in the light htey had. It wasn't one of those fancy dice he'd heard of some people owning to play that nerdy game...what was it? Dragons and Monsters? It was a simple 6 sided dice.
He reached down and grabbed it, letting it roll in his palm to get a better look. It was pretty that was for sure.
A strong wind rushed him and Helio nearly fell over, only catching himself with his other hand. As he opened his eyes from the mild shock he found...nothing. Darkness surrounded him on all sides.
Standing in a rush he turned around himself, trying to figure out what happened when a winding line of squares appeared in front of him like pieces to an old board game he would have played with his brother when they were young. Far off in the distance, something appeared. A platform? The end?
"What the hell is going on." He muttered, the die still held in his hand as he gaped for a moment at what he was seeing.

Sheepish sigh and whispered thanks for the little misstep being brushed off, albite nodded along, his autumn hued gaze trailing Helios steps towards a tiny glinting treasure, one of a few that’d been scattered carelessly all about the ground; he still wanted to go to the festival, to a bar, but now imagined that could be enjoyed more easily *after* they’d raided the dark halls of some haunted venue or roughly decorated fence made full of fake corn and hay bales piled high.
He could focus though! One task at a time, dice, quota, drinking — dice?
“S’shame somebody lost ‘em, specially when their so pretty,” and now that he was paying attention, he did see, the myriad of colors that called to him like a sparkly button to a magpie — he just had to touch it! Reaching down to pick the spare one up and carefully ogle it in the soft fall lamplight; albite belatedly wondered if it was worth something? If maybe there was a whole set to go along with the cute octagonal piece he’d plucked outta the dirt.
“Hey, Heli-*oh….*” the gust of freezing wind stole the involuntary gasp of sound he made as he twisted to find *nothing*, no-one — only a winding path full of stupid squares and himself so utterly alone — “….no-no-no-n-Helio!!”
How could he have lost him!? Lost himself?! On instinct Albite moved forewords — a step meant to become the beginnings of a run; only for the hurried movement to end in a fumbling *thunk* and pained *hisst* when he met the equivalent of a glass wall — “Sonofahn-oww!! Nobody puts Albite in a box!!” snarled into a defiant shout, and he didn’t know who he was yelling at, or threatening, or if Helio was in earshot — if they were even on the same plane of existence as each other — right then all that mattered was the self inflicted wound on his ego and that the once cold dice clenched in his fist felt hot enough, that out of sheer frustration he threw it — and dodged the damnable thing as it bounced back at him like a pissed off ping-pong ball, before landing at his feet; the face now lingering on an ominous three.

Space: 4
"Albite?" He spun again, trying to see if his comrade had also been dragged into...well, into whatever this was. He wasn't sure if he was relieved or worried to not find the Eternal anywhere within sight.
Eyeing the squares, he turned and moved to follow them when he smacked full on into something invisible dropping the die in his hand. His hand reached up to his face that had taken a good smack from the impact. A soft echoing of the die hitting the ground, bouncing once, twice, several times before clattering to an end caught the Super's attention as he huffed angrily about his face.
A carved number 4 stared upwards.
Reaching down he grabbed the little item that assumidbly brought him here. "I swear to god if this is som sort of trick or game, I am going to..." He paused. Eyes flashing upwards to the squares and then the dice. It can't be... But somehow, deep inside he knew.
This was a game.
What was that horrid smell though. He wrinkled his nose as he tentatively reached out to where the wall was and found no resistance. His hand passed right beyond where the invisible barrier had been. Taking more care he moved forward along the squares.
The scent of what could only be described as rot or death seemed to follow him and grow more powerful. He gagged as he reached the fourth space, eye watering as he tried to pinch his nose closed. It didn't help.
Something moved up ahead. It was dark, near impossible to tell what was there but something was moving...crawling. No dragging itself or something?
A hand reached out to him. Ghostly, decrepit and obviously rotting by the look of the flesh. It grabbed for his robes, snatching hold of a sleeve and pulling with a strength that Helio would have never expected. "What the ********?!" He cursed as he pulled back against it.
A fear grew in his gut. This...whatever it was, was pulling him into the darkness. Something told the young man that that was not where he wanted to go. He scrambled as far back as he could, but his back found another barrier. This time keeping him from moving in the direction he had come from.
Out of instinct he attempted to teleport.
Nothing happened. In fact, it was like something was forcefully keeping him here. "You have got to be kidding me!" He yelled.
The dread heightened as the hand, still grasping Helio's sleeve tugged hard. The senshi stumbled to a knee as he grabbed at his sleeve and pulled backwards all the while the stench of rot continued to grow worse and worse. Tears blurred his vision as the intensity of the smell began to overwhelm.

Space: 3 --> 5
The step into darkness -- so utterly complete and fog-filled that he couldn't've found his own d**k with his bare hands; he heard the dice hit the glowing stone steps before the light of it's opalescent veneer winked out entirely, before everything was hands, knees, and his own breathing in his ears.
"Aelius---" hushed, and the bits of fog he could discern swirled like fresh cream with each exhale, with each slow as sludge twitch forwards while spanning hands across his square -- no matter how alone he seemed, he didn't feel ******** -- he felt --"Heli-Oh!"
DICE!!
Blessed, bitchass little bauble! Albite choked on the relief of finding the thing, only to drop it once more at the sound of distant scrabbling; something, no - someone - being dragged roughly over stone not far from where he stood -- and then the barking drove him forwards; catching the orb of cursed die with his fingertips, he twisted round to snarl even more obscenities at the feel of fangs on his heels -- the tug of teeth on a sash. No longer caring if he could actually see what chased him from one square through the next two; whatever massive bulky hound towered above him in the shadows and snapped out through the fog.
He needed to get away.
"Lash of Retribution!"

"Oofh--Helio!!", and his magic roiled uncharacteristically, tangled into loss as it struck at air and pulled from nothing.
"Worse than annoying, thank ******** you're alright! Thought I lost you..." and Eion would've killed him for it, not that he had to worry too much, watching Helio lash out, the others magic striking at unseen force body that produced the ever louder howls-- He swore he could smell the demon-dogs breath, rank with meat and decay, whenever it neared too close. Like it was inches from the nape of his neck and then just out of reach when he turned his back to face it.
"Whatdowedo---we're easy targets unless we move, but every time I move ******** -- recklessly -- this place just pens me in." the words heaved as he unwittingly clutched the dice in his palm, till he hardly felt the indent of it anymore. "C'n we teleport out you think? I don't even know if the tech works down here..." he had his earrings -- whatever help they'd bring, which was no help at all if they didn't figure out something soon!

Roll 6 Space: 5 ---> 11
"Of course I was!! You---you--" and what could Albite do but laugh? Greatful for the bit of levity in the otherwise daunting situation. That Aelius would think to tease him at a time like this. It was refreshing, he needed it, the grim smile and nod to the fact that they were both very much still alive enough to be playing with each other.
If that changed in the next -- however long it took them to escape the place? Well, he wanted to remember Heliodor as happy, brazen in the face of howling hellhounds and crawling corpses, trying to desperately drag them off into the darkness.
"So--so we roll or we die? The ******** saw-brand, house of the damned, murder-maze kind of bullshit is this!!" shouted to the heavens, the dogs, the creeping fog and clinging stench that Albite swore he could smell. He didn't know why, felt himself instinctually flinch away from perceived teeth and another bit of -- ******** -- he swore it was drool -- something far too close for ******** -- fine universe! I'll roll with you! Let's try it together, alright? If something ******** we can't teleport out?"
Albite rummaged an attached pouch tucked beneath the sashes, some backpocket thing, pulling out the earrings he'd only used once; which sat with the bell he'd used never, and was arranged alongside the bottle that'd occasionally held his wispy babies before they'd become full blown cerb-asaurus-triple-headed-turkeys from hell -- or ibis's? Bin chickens? Whatever! The point was he didn't bother to dig through subspace for the things he needed kept on his person -- like his pendant -- and his wedding ring.
"Magic s**t still works, yeh? This shits magic as hell, you just pop it in an ear, n think thoughts --- I'll find you...." however long it took to manage that, so long as it wasn't more than two hours, that the earrings needed charging like they were some knock off airpods went unsaid. He left one to Heliodore, hooked the other into his own flesh, and then hurled his bitchass dice into the void...
And regretted doing so immediately---
Shunted across the glowing spaces against his will. Waru didn't even look for the dice as he dodged a furl of wings and scrabble of claws from above.

Roll 3 Space: 11---> 14
'Nothings trying to kill us, huh?'
'I'm being dramatic, right!?'
'Bein exteremeeeee -- like theres bats in my atic instead of just my hair -- Helio...Aeilus...You're okay, right?'
The thoughts came unbidden, tumultuous, rapid-fire, aimed with a mixture of insane glee and cracked denial-- Waru swore he felt something slice far to close to his face for his own liking; he expected a rake of claws, blood to be drawn, but when he touched his own face? Nothing. Nothing at all. The only mess raining down on him was aimed -- most thankfully -- at his hair -- and though it tangled n pulled, though it slowed him down -- He made the best of it to run through the nasty little hive of batwinged bastards.
The b***h of it was all was the act of rolling the dice, fighting the swarm to scoop up the shiny bauble before they did it all on their own, and in doing so he didn't see the ledge, the edge of one square to the next shifting in form -- he screamed as he hit wet, sticky, snaring goo.
Tripping nearly backwards across an array of threads, *bouncing*, the midair jolt enough to jar all of his senses - before he was unceremoniously yanked back into whatever trap he'd sprung.
Waru spent precious -- precious -- precious moments struggling, an entanglement of dreads, a scrabbling of ropes that wouldn't let go. The distant twanging had him freezing up once he realized it wasn't his own movements reverberating back to him --
There was something else in the ******** web with him!
