The Gargoyles (7) : By all accounts, you should have seen the last of them. The Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, but it seems like some of them did escape into Destiny City. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough. Powered characters can use one roleplay with an attacking stone beast to count as a battle requirement if they are roleplaying with another powered character.
Hy-Brasil traversed the roof-tops of Destiny City easily enough. The crips nights helped keep her awake and focused, even if the effects of the Sidhe's touch crept along her peripheral. Things that people saw at night seemed to be worse for the Knight and her anxieties soared because of it. It felt like she was never going to be free and only her make-shift excapism was what could calm her down anymore.
Still she tried. She forced herself to keep fighting. It was why she was out tonight. Another owner of a tincture ingredient had been contacted and a meeting set. Tonight was the night and Hy had to take extreme effort to make sure she was lucid for this meeting, even if it meant nightmares and ghosts invisible to others haunted her.
The chosen meeting spot was a part of town that sported more detailed homes. Many were victorian but some colonial or craftsman were dropped here and there. It was a lovely neighborhood, one Hy would have loved to own a property in if it was ever at all feasible. The structures at night though gave off a creepy vibe that Hy found unpleasant. Maybe it was her haunting shadows, or maybe the statues of animals that 'protected' some of the houses.
Hy found the church they had chosen as the easiest of places to find. A small area of the roof was flat enough to make an easy area to chat, but spires rising above them would add a bit of protection. Hy was surprised though to find, of all things, small gargoyle statues sitting on ledges. The obvious gothic creature was not a vibe she would have placed with a church, especially one with gold and blue tones and bright stain glassed windows.
But, when Sailor Onnie arrived, Hy'd full attention shifted to the senshi as she offered a smile of greeting as she leaned against her staff. "Thank you for coming! I know my message was a bit vague." Hy had only explained she was in need of a specific item from Onnie's planet but hadn't gone into great detail about it. The Knight had emphasized she'd rather have met Onnie in person to discuss it. It was easier as a whole, in case there were any questions.

Onnie was late!!
Okay, so she wasn't, like, super late, but she'd gotten way too distracted between playing games and working on her Halloween costume, and by the time she'd checked her phone to remind her when she was supposed to meet Hy-Brasil (...was that her name?? weird name, but Knights worked on different rules or something; Onnie was way cuter) she'd totally missed the thirty minute warning... ah, what a nightmare, what a nightmare!!
She'd hurried herself out the door, calling goodbye to her parents as she scurried, a pack of Twizzlers in one hand that she shoved in her mouth all at once as she tried to juggle them and her henshin pen as soon as she got to an empty, shadowed spot, and then she threw herself through her transformation at record speed. Or she would've, anyway, if it actually ever sped up; it always felt longer when she was doing it than it did when she watched Lepus transform.
...Ahhh, and it was getting breezy out, too, and her socks weren't thick enough to keep her warm, and she'd totally forgotten to grab a jacket to throw on after she got into uniform... no fair, no fair! The universe was conspiring against her! What to do?? She was already almost late to the meeting, so she couldn't go back for something like a jacket or a cardigan, but... Hy-Brasil would just have to deal with her whining a little bit! It was very mature and adult whining, Onnie pointed out inside her own head; she was an adult now, anyway, so that meant anything she did was by default now mature.
"Sorrysorrysorry I'm late," she called out, clumsily making her way up to the church roof, grappling awkwardly with outcrops in a way that was not as graceful as a Super Senshi should have been. "I got held up!! Sorry!!"
This was probably not as convincing as it could have been, given Onnie still had a Twizzler sticking out of her mouth, but she was breathing hard enough that it showed she'd been pushing herself to get here on time.
First thing Hy thought when first seeing Onnie was how young the girl looked. Maybe it was the age gap between them, the way the senshi practically crawled over the eves and outcroppings, or perhaps the licorice that protruded from her mouth, but Onnie certainly was one of the younger ones Hy had met with.
Hy-Brasil waved the apologies. "I only just got here myself, you aren't really late.You didn't need to push yourself to get here so fast." She offered a smile as she leaned on her staff nonchalantly. "I have to thank you for even coming to meet with me." Niceties aside, the senshi and knights offering their assistance truly had no idea how important that was to Hy herself.
Something moved along her peripheral and Hy turned to her right, eyes roving over the dark outcroppings. There was nothing there. Not even a bird huddled in for the evening. She sighed. "Sorry. I am just a bit jumpy." She turned back to Onnie.
"To make a long story short, I've been struggling with some things on my Wonder and my ancestor and I are hoping a tincture we discovered a recipe for could help. According to the recipe, Onnie has something I can use."

Wow, Hy-Brasil was... green. This was Onnie's first thought. It was not exactly an analytical masterpiece, but neither was she. "I did have to push myself," the girl in question said, defensively, hands on her hips, "because people sometimes leave if you're late even if you were totally on time and they were early, and then I'd be all the way out here anyway, but in the cold!! For no reason!! No thanks!!" She huffed dramatically and shook her head, taking a deep breath; her voice had cracked on those last few words, as it often did, and the last place she wanted to spontaneously break into tears because her body and her mind were not in agreement as far as the intensity of her feelings went was in front of a Knight who definitely knew what she was doing.
"I mean, um... if it was something the Onnie way back then knew about, I don't know it? I really don't go there a lot, it's weird and kind of creepy; it feels like there should be way more things alive than there are." And then eventually she got freaked out, or tripped over a weird rock and scraped her knees or twisted her ankle or whatever, and had to leave. Sometimes she rolled around in the grass for an hour and read books she'd been supposed to return to the library a week ago and going, but that was less common, considering how rarely she went to her world in the first place these days.
Mostly she wanted to do it with Lepus! Which was definitely not for -- who was she kidding?? It was because she had a big stupid crush on Lepus. And Lepus was way too busy to spend time hanging out in space and doing nothing...! It was such a pain!!
"But! If you have more details on what you're looking for, um. I can do my best to find it! What is it?"
The girl was certainly full of energy despite having pushed herself to get here so quickly, that was for certain. Out of breath or not, Onnie was quite vocal and Hy found it oddly charming. Perhaps it was Onnie's youthful appearance or the fact that the girl still held what felt like innocence, Hy found herself enjoying the bright company.
"Well, thankfully, I have a list of what I am looking for. From what I know, your planet is supposed to have a plant called an 'Onnish Buttercup'. I am not sure what it looks like precisely but I imagine it might be something similar to Earth's buttercup plant?" Hy had quickly assumed the plant donned small golden flowers. She herself remembered playing with them as a child and holding them under her or friends' chins to determine if they liked butter or not. Silly, yes, but childhood was full of silly thoughts and doings.
Hy did worry though at the mention that the homeworld seemed oddly empty. Perhaps Onnie hadn't been able to help her world begin to thrive again? She certainly seemed young and perhaps a bit inexperienced.
It was then a movement out of the corner of her eye happened again. Hy swore under her breath as she glanced in that direction honestly expecting to see nothing. Instead, a gargoyle no larger than a medium dog was actively prowling toward them. "What the hell." She cursed, turning to face it with in hand as she backed up to Onnie's side.
Another thump from their side indicated another gargoyle had animated itself and was joining the prowling party.

"Ohh. You want a buttercup? There's tons." Onnie squinted, screwing up her face like she was thinking, which she probably was. To an onlooker, it wasn't nearly as severe an expression as she thought she was making; she really just looked like she'd tasted something mildly sour. "I am the Senshi of Buttercups," the girl said, with more than a little unearned arrogance, "so I know these things."
Did senshidom come with knowledge about one's powers? Definitely not. Did Hy-Brasil know that? ...She probably did, but Onnie needed to pad her own ego every now and again, anyway. Who else was going to? Etoile? Etoile was like, five, or twelve, or whatever, and that was a baby age for a baby cat, and that meant no complements Etoile gave had true value in the hard-fought modern world.
"Does it say anything about any sorta... special qualities, or --"
She cut herself off, almost overbalancing a little as she looked around quickly, head swiveling so fast her pigtails went flying. One, two -- and there was three, and there was four, all advancing towards the two of them with what seemed to be a rather menacing gait, circling, boxing them in.
"This is so not my fault, okay?? I didn't do this." Not like Hy-Brasil was going to assume that!! But Onnie had to cover all her bases.

Hy-brasil left Onnie's question fall to the wind. She didn't think Onnie would hold it against her considering their current circumstances. At least she now knew it wasn't her own mind tricking her this time. These things were legit, whatever they were. Thankfully they were only the size of a medium dog, but she imagined their weight was gonna throw more oomph isn't any attacks that came.
"I never thought you did." She replied as Onnie tried to rid herself of blame. Hy briefly wondered why the senshi felt such a desire to state something like that. Was she blamed often for out-of-the-ordinary things happening?
The first of the gargoyles decided to make a move forcing Hy to leave that train of thought. It took to the air, half-pouncing half flying at them. Staff in hand she swung, and connected with the beast's side, forcing it off target. Pain lanced up from her hands at the impact. "We need to hit these things hard to do any damage I think. Moving or not, they feel like solid stone.
"What does your magic do?" It was best to know now instead of being taken by surprise if Onnie decided to start throwing it around.

"It's poison," Onnie replied, dancing out of the way of a swipe that looked like it might've broken her ankle. Yikes!! She needed those!! "'s a -- bunch of flower petals! Makes you itchy!" And a whole load of other things, but it wasn't as if she had time to explain every single trait of buttercup toxicity she'd looked up on the internet to get a better idea of what her magic did, she wasn't made of exposition!
...although, because it was basically a weird poison, it wasn't going to work on stone, was it?? But she couldn't just rely on Hy-Brasil to fight her battles for her, even if Onnie really would've preferred it... what a pain, what a pain!
