Quote: The Noises (9) : There’s a noise somewhere around you and you don’t know where it’s coming from, or what it is. Maybe it’s the sound of something otherwise normal–glasses clinking, someone walking, a clock chiming–except, it doesn’t belong there. It’s a common noise, it just has no source. Or, maybe it’s something scarier–a whisper, a scratch, and wail. The noises come and go without any apparent source. It’s constant. For minutes, or hours, or days. And then, it stops, with no explanation, and that’s almost as scary as when it started. Targovishte found the autumn months far more enjoyable than those of summer, and honestly, anything was better than high summer. She had utterly avoided the middle and end of August, and had spent far more time in September either hanging out with Aiden or going with him to their wonders…and staying a little more dry this time.
But, as the weather was cooling off, she figured it would be a good thing to pick up the mantle once again and go on a patrol. Belmont had other things to do, so she was out on her own, and had of course broken off the top of the windsock, holding the thin stick between her fingers, the fabric part stuffed into subspace where it couldn’t get in the way. Thankfully, it was a cool, breezy night and the fur of her jacket actually felt good. Her hair felt nice being down too, so she left it there and continued on her walk, feeling perfectly fine and content with the world.
…At least until the moment when she heard a blood curdling scream that made her stop dead in her tracks, her heart beginning to pound swiftly.
Okay. So someone was in trouble. If someone was in trouble, she could help…she could. Help…and. Fix the trouble. Alone. With her little…
Stick.
Blowing out a breath, the Page broke into a run, looking left and right to figure out where the scream had come from, who could have done it and what was happening to them. Goodness, the way it sounded it had to at least be some kind of ax murder at the very least but…
By the time she ran into the green haired civilian she had just heard the scream again…though this time it seemed to be coming from where she had just left.
Startled and confused, Targovishte stumbled backwards and landed hard on her rear, but hopped up again quickly. “Did you hear it? Did you hear the scream? Do you know what’s going on? Did you scream?”
If she could know that the scream was only in her own head…she wouldn’t have asked. But. Now here she was. A Page on a patrol alone. Looking utterly crazy.

Alex shuffled his scarf higher up his neck. The weather was getting brisker, which was just fine with him. He didn’t mind the cold at all, but the chilling wind was irritating his skin. He’d have to buckle down and buy some moisturizer for the coming months, and maybe a couple of other pumpkin and apple scented things. Apple cinnamon tea sounded delightful right now. He was busy making a shopping list in his head, when a woman dressed in cosplay nearly ran him over. The green haired man startled and stared at the clumsy Page, who had literally fallen over in her panic. He was frozen in the spot, wringing his hands together, taking a minute to process everything she was saying. “What scream?” He asked nervously, piercing blue eyes swimming in confusion. He didn’t hear a scream. Or maybe he wasn’t paying attention? Maybe it was part of her cosplay act… or maybe it wasn’t! She seemed pretty startled. Despite his initial fear, he felt the overwhelming sense to help. “I wasn’t the one screaming, no. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, but…you seriously didn’t hear it?” Targovishte narrowed her eyes slightly, as though to figure out if the male was lying but…he seemed to be only concerned and…
That was…kind of worrying, to be honest.
Maybe he was deaf but…no. No that didn’t make any sense as they were literally talking and…
The scream came again, the same scream, only from a completely different area of the woods, and Targovishte’s head swung around and she began walking towards it. Honestly, if it wasn’t so overgrown right now, she would have run but the tree roots were thick right here. “You really, really didn’t hear that just now?”
She flung over her shoulder, looking back at the green haired male and then falling flat on her face as one of the tree roots did indeed seem to reach out and grab her foot.
“s**t.”

Alex jolted his head in the direction she spun, but he didn’t hear a single sound except the wind rustling the trees and birds singing their last songs before sundown. “Uh, no I didn’t hear anything.” This really didn’t seem like a cosplay act, and she didn’t sound like she was lying either. It was starting to freak him out a little. He went to follow her but stopped short when she tripped. “Oh! Are you okay?” He hurried over to help her up, but paused at the sound of his shoe hitting something metal. The green haired man looked down, seeing a glint of golden hiding under the leaves. Cosplay lady must’ve dropped something when she fell, he thought. As soon as he picked it up though, he was momentarily blinded by what he can only describe as a strange light or vision. The imagery wasn’t clear, but it didn’t feel dangerous at all. In fact it felt like somewhere he may have been before. As it faded, and he was left with some sense of familiarity, like the object was an old friend he just caught up with. He even felt like it had a name? Or it knew his name. Something along those lines. Huh. That was weird. He turned back to help the lady when he noticed his cheeks were brushing not up against his soft wool scarf, but bright white fur. Huh?? His eyes roamed the rest of his outfit. Everything had changed! Gone were the muted colors of his sweater and jeans, and on was a bright pink costume with gold trimmings not unlike the Page in front of him. The man stood with his jaw dropped open, the metal object he now recognized as a weather vane held loosely in his hand. It spun slowly as if mirroring the metaphorical gears turning in his head. He held out a helping hand to the woman on the ground to stop himself from freaking out completely. “Umm w-what just happened?”

Targovishte sighed. “I’m fine, just…” The sudden flare of power behind her gave her pause and she drew in a breath before she pushed herself to her knees, wiping her hands on her coat as she took in the new Page that stood behind her. “...Just clumsy.”
Her eyes traced over the Jupiter symbols that adorned his outfit and she swallowed and slowly began to smile. “Well. Welcome to the club. I…”
The scream came again, but once more, it was in a completely different direction, and honestly, Targovishte was growing more and more suspicious that the sound was in her head, so she tried not to listen to it.
Taking the offered hand, she pulled herself up. “I’m Targovishte, Page of Jupiter…you…this just happened, right? Like…I mean…”
Her eyes flickered to the gold weather vane in his hand and she scoffed. “Wow, you get something that looks cool, I’m a little bit jealous, I can’t lie about that…but…what’s your name? You’re just like me…Jupiter, I can tell by your symbols.”
Easy there, if she freaked him out…that wouldn't do anyone any good.

“Uh yeah, this just happened,” he replied, finally taking a good look at his new outfit. Jupiter? That’s what all the symbols mean then. Yes, that makes sense. He turned the weather vane in his hand and took a good look at it. It certainly fits his style with the bat and all. And it definitely looks super cool.“Thanks. My name is Arges.” Why did I say that? Maybe he really was losing his mind, ate a mushroom he wasn’t supposed to and all that. But the name felt right in the moment. “So um, what does this have to do with Jupiter? Are the planets secretly magical dressing genies? I’ll have to talk with whoever’s in charge about the color scheme,” he joked lightly, trying to ease both of their nervous energies. Alex didn’t hate pink, he didn’t hate any color really, but… it was a little bright compared to his monochromatic everyday wear. (A funny thought coming from a man with lime green hair). “And what do you mean ‘get something?’ Do you have one too?” He added, holding up the weather vane with a tilt of his head.

Targovishte smiled a little ruefully. “Well, look I’m really the worst person to explain all of this, or I was before. Yeah, I didn’t get a weather vane like you, but I got…” She wiggled her stick in front of her and then withdrew the other part of the windsock out of her subspace pocket. “A windsock, normally I just yank off the…sock part and just use the stick. It’s absolutely not helpful for anything.”
Looking the new page over, she nodded, with some approval. “If you have some free time, we should get together more often. I have a partner who I train with, his name’s Belmont, he really got me into the whole thing, and I think you’d fit in pretty well with us. If you’re interested. The one thing I really do know is that it’s impossible to do this alone and be a success…I mean, I guess you could but. It won’t be easy.”

Alex watched with wide eyes as the windsock seemed to appear out of nowhere. “I think you’re undermining how cool that is… and it’s pretty,” he replied, tilting his head toward the object.
“I would love to learn the ropes with you and your partner. I don’t really know what I’m doing,” he continued, absently staring at his own weapon again. “So uh… do we exchange numbers? Or is there magic for that too?” He asked genuinely, looking back up at the fellow page. The newly awakened knight was truly ignorant to all these things, and honestly he was just trying to get as much information as possible and process it all later.

“We can exchange numbers, of course! I mean, I’m just a normal…me when I’m not like this. Do you want to go grab something to eat and I can get you my number and everything else? It’s a lot, and I’m not great at it all but…something is always better than nothing when it comes to information…”
And if she were going to face it, she had started off with…well. Pretty much nothing. “We’d love to have you with us. There’s safety in numbers and things are always better with friends, so…what do you say? Join me?”

“Sure. I appreciate all your help,” he replied, a soft smile gracing his lips. The new Page felt a little better he wasn’t the only one a little lost on all this magic stuff, but he was glad for the help nonetheless. They quickly exchange numbers and power down, making their way to the city to find a place to relax and exchange information. They find a cute little cafe to eat at while Sadie gives Alex the basic How to be a Knight 101 spiel, or at least as much as she knows herself. It was already the evening when they met up, so the day quickly came to an end with promises to meet up soon for more training.
