Strays (1): Destiny City News reports several sightings of ‘feral dogs' appearing throughout the city. Those interviewed claim that the dogs would surround them and chase them down the streets, seemingly popping in and out of sight until the person finally found themselves in a well lit area. You have the misfortune of running into these same dogs.
They cling to the shadows as you go about your way at night. Seemingly at the corner of your vision, one flickers by, and you turn and see nothing. Again and again it happens. They are trying to drive you into the darkest corners of the city, herding you away from the light. In the nearby distance are the lights of the city: streetlights, signs, traffic. You have to do something to get there, to escape these creatures. When you make it to any significant light source, you hear a low growl, a wailing hiss; the dogs have vanished.
For now.
Dant was happily checking the mail. He wouldn't be getting any of his own mail, so that meant that his friends and hosts were trusting in many ways - not to read their mail for one thing, and to deal with ordinary humans without freaking them out. He got to the mailboxes which were down the street from the apartments and was waiting in line to open the specific mailbox with the key (the mailbox area was very small and to avoid getting into anyone's space, the group of people waited in line).
Suddenly, the lights started flickering. There were many cries of dismay, one was Dant's - Sekhmites are not fond of Darkness - especially sudden darkness.
Then there was the sound of whining, a hiss, a bark and a growl. Dogs. Why did it have to be Dogs? Sekhmites often considered dogs to be Omens. Bad Omens. Evil Omens. He sighed.
The lights went out. There were startled cries. Somehow, Dant kept his cool, and controlled his breathing. Then suddenly the group was surrounded by none other than shadow dogs. Why him? His worst nightmare!
Nothing he could do now though about his fears - he had a job to do - even if he couldn't transform. He pulled out an emergency flashlight that he had been given, and he held on to for what reason? He turned it and flashed it at all the dogs long enough till they backed away, and the flashlight started to dim. It gave him enough time. "Everyone! Listen up! It's okay! Yes, I know there are shadow dogs attacking. We need to get to a well-lit source of light. I think I know the closest one and let's work together combat the creatures." It worked; they listened to him, and just in time too.
For some reason - he guessed that he had given them courage, when he fought his own fear, they listened to his commands. He wasn't used to being in command and was unsure of himself but knew what had to be done and used that to channel confidence into his words. He didn't really give them orders, but more like, "On your left, such and such!" And he guided them to where they were going.
He got them to the Police Department where one of his partners worked, along with his friend Drew. Just after one of the on-duty officers saw one of the shadow dogs nearly attack one of the elderly ladies and Dant dive into protect her, the dogs vanished from the light. The Police had heard similar stories as well and this Halloween in Destiny City after all.
The Police took their stories and found them ways to get home. As for Dant, he personally called his hosts.... wondering what he was going to tell them. He was supposed to get the mail - a task that should only take 15 minutes at the most - and he was about 2 hours late and about 20 minutes away by vehicle...
