School/Occupation: Heir to a textile conglomerate in Singapore, dedicates huge swathes of his time to his parents’ company
Hobbies:
- Workaholic: It frequently happens that a lot of the meetings and dinner deals and partnerships that Yunzhe has to attend take place in time zones that he doesn’t actually live in. He adjusts well enough, but this does have a way of making him feel like he is working constantly. Despite this, he doesn’t find his career (or the travel) unenjoyable. He meets a lot of people and sees a lot of places, and his lifestyle is quite lavish, so the positives outweigh the negatives pretty much any way you’d slice it (also has no idea what he’d do if he wasn’t his mother’s heir, and it makes him a little anxious to think about- so he doesn’t think about it). Always on calls, if not to his associates, than to his family. Has multiple phones to check his multiple email addresses. Cannot bear to be off the grid for more than an hour or two at a time. Has to travel often between his family’s hub in Singapore and his home base in Destiny City- chosen specifically for its economic prosperity.
Nightlife: Yunzhe is not a homebody by any stretch of the imagination. Sometimes he only barely feels like he has a ‘home’ at all, so much as just ‘a condo to occasionally crash at.’ It seems disproportionately like he is awake more often at night than during the day, but he will go out at his own leisure, regardless of the actual time. When he’s not engaged with work, he can be caught participating in city events like galas and balls, hanging out at clubs/concerts, binging dirty street food, or engaging in tourist attractions like Meow Wolf and ICE. Also loves light displays, river floats/rafting, rock climbing in summer, skiing in the winter. Yunzhe is unapologetically active despite his age, and he has a bad tendency to coerce his friends into joining him, regardless of their personal opinions on the matter. He has time now, and he might not later, so he needs to make use of it.
Krav Maga: A little rich boy with a propensity for wandering off on his own without warning? Yeah, it was obvious very early in Yunzhe’s life that he would need to be taught some kind of self-defense. Preferably something he could use in close quarters and that would prepare him for assailants coming after him with dangerous weapons. Krav maga was selected for him, and as a teenager he found it incredibly worthless. People would protect him; he shouldn’t have to do it himself. One foul incident in a scuzzy nightclub later, and that perception was promptly set straight. People would absolutely not protect him if the bribe was high enough. And his parents didn’t seem interested in bailing him out multiple times, if the warning of, “If you get abducted and can’t get out of it yourself, just let them shoot you” means anything. They were probably teasing. Maybe. That was decades ago now, but Yunzhe has kept at it with significantly more dedication since then. His instructors work with him on his time, privately. Yunzhe rarely showcases any interest or knowledge of combat, so it can actually be pretty surprising to his friends to see him defend himself, if the need arises.
Virtues:
- Easy-going: Maybe it is his chaotic schedule that drains a lot of the fight out of him, but when he’s out and about, there’s nothing in Yunzhe that is anything short of approachable. There’s no tension or stress to be found, and he engages with people easily. He definitely doesn’t flaunt anything and is not seeking anyone’s attention or approval, but he is happy to chatter and joke and help anyone around him have a good time. Does find this harder to do for prolonged periods of time with perpetually dark, pessimistic people, but is still content to give it a go! He strays away from excessive alcohol, drugs, and gambling, being pretty aware that these things are likely to do him more harm than good… And they have the potential to do a lot of harm when compared to very fleeting good. But he won’t judge you, if that’s what you want to do.
Dutiful: Probably goes without saying, given how much time he commits to work instead of leisure, but Yun does take his roles pretty seriously. His role as company heir, his role as oldest brother, first-born, mama-pleaser. It’s not just what he is ‘supposed’ to do and what his parents have been essentially raising him for. Heading this company is his responsibility for the betterment of his family. It could go to any of his three younger siblings, and he doubts any of them would complain too much (he probably wouldn’t either), but that’s just not how it happened, and he’s no shirker. Yun would rather he do his best and fail and deal with that than letting someone else do the same. And no one’s fighting him about it.
Flaws:
- Impatient: Despite his typically relaxed and easy-going nature, Yunzhe is pretty active. Maybe not always physically, but he is usually engaged mentally and socially, and he doesn’t appreciate it when his companions try to slow him down from that. He doesn’t need constant attention and doesn’t want to be the central focus. He can be perfectly content listening to other people laugh and carry on. But he is not a fan of lulls and is eager for something to fill them, so he’s happy to offer suggestions to keep things moving. Doesn’t usually showcase any great annoyance with other people, but Yun is very persistent and persuasive in making sure people keep up with him at his pace, and he is rarely up for compromising about it.
Escapist: Yunzhe does not even realize he has this problem. He is aware that he is incredibly fortunate to have such a lavish life, and the constant work and expectation seem like equal trade-offs for the amount of security he gets from his family and their business. He’s definitely happy, definitely confident, definitely comfortable and doesn’t really internalize to any degree why he might be so eager to lose himself in work or his great myriad of leisure activities. But subconsciously there are a good handful of things he doesn’t really want to risk thinking about: doesn’t want to think about what his value as a person would be if he didn’t have his family’s business, doesn’t want to think about how lonely he’d be if he wasn’t out with his friends, doesn’t really want to think about the daunting and unknowable future or how likely it might be that he could end up letting his mother down… He laughs and brushes her off often enough that she certainly thinks he doesn’t care. Yunzhe himself probably thinks he doesn’t care, either.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
- Eyes: BYZANTINE and too old for the wide-eyed, innocent look. Has heavy brows and little laugh-lines just barely starting to crinkle the corners of his eyes.
Hair: DARK BROWN/BLACK mess of curls, interspersed with a few stray grays. Would love him to keep the facial hair too.
Face: High cheekbones, long and somewhat broad nose, full lips and a wide jawline.
Skin Tone: HONEY-BRONZE
Body Type: Stands at a relatively average 5’9” with a somewhat athletic build from frequent martial arts practice, as well as the outdoorsy activities he enjoys. Not hulking, but has a lot of firm edges.
Clothes: Not a fan of the “t-shirt and ripped jeans” look. Yunzhe often dresses quite formally. Not always in full suit, but in button up shirts, slacks, nice jacket/vest. Likes flannel and dark jeans for the outdoors or more public scenes. Tends to throw garments away the second they start becoming frayed and messy, though. Everything had better look damn crisp regardless of the time or locale.
