First there was Jadarite and the leaf pile, then the strange gravestone when he was trying to patrol and train with Thornasite…and honestly, Celadonite was starting to heavily contemplate just hibernating for the winter. It might be best, he was cold blooded anyway, and if he could skip Destiny City doing its yearly bullshit…

That would be best for everyone involved, at least he figured it would be.

Picking up the small wood and opal die was a mistake, and honestly, Celadonite had known it was a mistake even as he was bending down to grab it but…by that time he was committed, and when the world shifted, revealing a life size…strange and slightly boring looking game board in front of him, he gave a sigh, trying to just walk off of the square he was on.

The fact that something was preventing him from leaving caused another heavy sigh to escape him, and very reluctantly.

He rolled the die.

Space 4:
Something smells rotten. You can’t see very far into the darkness, but if you squint closely a dark form seems to be dragging itself along the ground. Sometimes you see a pale hand almost close enough to grab you–or, maybe something does grab you. It’s cold, and frightening, and it’s trying to drag you out of bounds.

Oh god. Something had definitely died here. The smell alone was enough to have Celadonite gagging, and he covered his nose and mouth with a hand and shuddered, his eyes picking up a strange movement…

…was…

…Was that a zombie. No. No this. This had been a nice, stupid. Supernatural. Awful. Holiday. Shitty. Gameboard and..

No. No, absolutely not.

He threw the die before he could think too much on the fact that this was going to end up being a very long game.

Space 10:
A swampy smell fills the air. You take a step, and you seem to sink into it. Mud creeps over your feet, and you sink rapidly. Ankle deep, knee deep. Whether or not you squirm and fight against it, you are sinking. The mud is crushing and painful, and if you sink too deep it steals the breath from your lungs. There’s nothing to grab onto; you have to roll your dice quickly before that too gets sucked into the muddy quicksand.

From the smell of rotting flesh to the smell of damp, musty vegetation and rotting wood…not…as bad but still…unpleasant.

Celadonite took a step forward and grimaced as his foot sunk ankle deep into the mire. Oh…fantastic. Just what he had always wanted. Quicksand or a death swamp or…whatever.

“This is literally a game from Hell and I’m a complete fool for touching that damn die!” He glared at the small cube in his hand and yelped when he fumbled it right into the sand.

Oh no, no that…

Quickly, he scooped it up and tossed it, a proper roll this time.

Space 13:
At first, the square is quiet. Nothing seems amiss. It’s unnerving in how safe it seems. But then, it only takes a few seconds before you understand why. It’s just taken a moment for them to get to you. The patter of tiny feet is rapidly approaching. There’s no light to see them, but there’s a reflection in their beady eyes. Rats. Thousands of them. Chittering, frothing in the mouth. These are strangely grotesque, mutated abominations. They’re running at you like they haven’t got a fear in the world–only, hungry. And rage. If they get to you, they’ll eat you alive. The ground is trembling with their weight. You’d better roll quickly if you don’t wind up a meal.

Good! A place on this cursed game board that didn't smell bad enough to make him sick. For a moment, perhaps for a moment too long Celadonite simply stood there and drew in several deep breaths of air that didn’t disgust him. How strange that clean air could make a person so…

Nostalgic.

After a moment a smell did reach his nose and he paused, turning his head towards it and the sound there…

Fantastic. There were rats here.

With a soft hiss, Celadonite drew himself up but when he saw the sheer number of the awful little critters, he grew pale and shook his head almost to himself.

Nope. Even if he wanted to eat rats…this was too many to chew…

Quickly he tossed the die again, hoping that this would be the last roll he would have to make.

Space 16:
As you step into your square, something cracks. At first, you can’t tell what it is, but as your full weight moves onto the square, the ground shifts beneath you. It’s cold, and it’s ice, and a hole falls underneath you, plunging you into frigid waters. There’s enough floating ice that you should still be able to roll the dice to get out of here, but you have to go quickly–you’re soaked, in chilly water, and something just swam by your feet.

No scurrying feet…no bad smells…Celadonite drew in a shaking breath before he took a tentative step forward, though when he heard the crack that seemed to pierce the air…seemed to pierce his very soul, he knew that this was it.

This game was literally going to kill him.

When he fell through the ice, when the cold water hit him, Celadonite let out a hoarse cry, his movements slowing as his temperature plummeted.

Why wasn’t Faustite here? Why wasn’t Albite? Both of them…either of them could warm him up.

He was trembling, his body trying to make some sort of heat, but already his eyes were closing as everything chilled down far too quickly.

With the last of his strength, he managed to lift his hand out of the water and gave the die one last roll before the exhaustion claimed him.

Space 20:
The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.

Celadonite had no hope of escaping that frigid icy tomb, but when he felt the dry gameboard under him, he managed to open his eyes, groaning softly.

Oh.

Maybe he made it. Or…he had died and this was the Cauldron. Or Heaven. Or…whatever.

Regardless, the half youma let his eyes shut again and used his last remaining strength to teleport home, his hand still clutched around the small wooden die.

…What a piece of s**t it was.

No, it was definitely time to hibernate.
