Quote: An unknown number calls you. Maybe you pick it up, maybe you don’t, but the message is the same–someone on the other line is warning you about something. They seem to have details that give credence to whatever they’re warning you about, but there’s something particularly unbelievable about it all–because, they sound like you. And they know things only you would know. And then, the line drops, and you’re left alone. If you try to call the number back, it’s been disconnected. If it was a prank, it was a good one. But, maybe there was something more to it. Jacob had been utterly and completely content after his promotion. Both to Captain and to boyfriend. He spent a lot of his time at Samir’s house if only to be close to him and to hang out with the dogs…he had utterly fallen in love with all of the dogs, that much was for sure.
Of course, being completely content wasn’t very good for growth. Ever since earning his promotion, he hadn't done more than the bare minimum in terms of being a Captain, and even though he was proud of it, he was starting to feel a little bad about the fact that he knew he wasn’t worthy of being a General yet…or. Any time soon for that matter.
When Jacob’s phone rang, he gave a sigh and answered it, leaning back against the couch and rubbing the head of one of the dogs that was snoozing in his lap, though he paused and scoffed after a moment, hanging the phone up even though the words made him feel…well. A little sick, to be honest.
And whoever it was had sounded like him and…
Nah, it was best to just put it out of his mind.
And as though to help him do just that, he heard the front door open. “Samir! Welcome home! We missed you.” His words were eager, and in most cases hee would have gotten up to greet his boyfriend properly but…
One didn’t just move a sleeping dog.

The sleeping dogs seemed eager to move themselves; while they had clustered around Jacob while he lounged, as soon as the door open and one of them realized that Samir was home, there was a hoard of wiggling little butts scurrying to meet him.
Except, the big dog in Jacob’s lap opened an eye, squinted at Samir, and then rolled onto his back and wiggled so he was more completely laying on top of Jacob.
And, he obviously expected belly rubs.
Samir laughed and set the bag he’d come in with down on the counter so he could crouch and gather all of the dogs up in his arms and pass around as many hugs and kisses and pets as possible.
“Hello, Jacob. I’m glad to be back. I’d ask what I missed, but I can see the dog hair on you from here. Are you hungry? I brought lunch.”

Jacob glanced over at Samir and couldn’t stop himself from grinning. “All right, I’m going to say this, and I know it’s going to be a big surprise to you, but I think I’m always hungry, if you brought lunch I will happily eat it.” He grinned and gave a little grunt at the dog who rolled over and reached out to stroke his ears with gusto.
“Sorry for stealing your dog, that was unintentional, but he has good taste, I have to say.”
Reaching down, he rubbed the dog’s belly and shook his head. “I hope you don’t mind me being here. I’m not leaving though, so if you do mind, I hope you don’t tell me.” He’d never minded before so he couldn’t figure that Samir would start now.
“...Say, completely off topic with my normal flirting, but have you gotten any strange spam calls lately? If not, do you have a good app or something that can block them, because this is getting out of hand.”

The dog atop Jacob lazily wagged his tail; he licked his lips and sniffed at the air, but even the smell of lunch wasn’t enough to get him to move.
“I don’t think I could ever mind you stopping by, the dogs love the attention. Give me a minute to wash my hands and make you a plate.” He wasn’t done petting the dogs, though; he tried to get up once but was drawn back by their pleading eyes and sloppy kisses.
“How many spam calls have you gotten? I don’t know that I’ve gotten any more than usual. I don’t know much about any apps though either, sorry. What’s so strange about them?”
