Quote: Destiny City News reports several sightings of ‘feral dogs' appearing throughout the city. Those interviewed claim that the dogs would surround them and chase them down the streets, seemingly popping in and out of sight until the person finally found themselves in a well lit area. You have the misfortune of running into these same dogs. They cling to the shadows as you go about your way at night. Seemingly at the corner of your vision, one flickers by, and you turn and see nothing. Again and again it happens. They are trying to drive you into the darkest corners of the city, herding you away from the light. In the nearby distance are the lights of the city: streetlights, signs, traffic. You have to do something to get there, to escape these creatures. When you make it to any significant light source, you hear a low growl, a wailing hiss; the dogs have vanished. For now. Retzian was trying to not be too terribly disappointed. She still needed more. More time. More experience. She wasn’t ready for a promotion but…that didn’t mean that she wouldn’t be…just. That she wasn’t right at the moment.
Rubbing the bridge of her nose, the lieutenant sighed and leaned against the shadowed wall that stood beside an alleyway.
There was an order aura that had her hair standing a bit on end, but she fought to ignore it, at least as much as she could ignore it. But, honestly…ignoring it wouldn’t help her in getting stronger. Going and fighting with whoever it was, that was what needed to be done. She needed to become more so that she could get more…she…
The growl was the first indication that there was something wrong, the low, dangerous growl of what sounded like a very…very large dog.
For one, agonizing moment, Retzian tried to tally up whatever chances she might have of fighting the dog off, and then she broke into a run, the aura of the senshi forgotten until the moment she ran right into him…right into the dog like senshi she had met before.
“You!” Her voice was harsh, fear making it far sharper than she would have liked. “Whatever you think you’re doing, call them off.”

Fang was out once again, but this night.... felt strange. He'd learned some of what Halloween was once the pumpkins and other strange decorations started popping up in the stores—the skeletons, the things he now understood were zombies, the odd costumes that would make a human look like a Fangan, all of that—and he understood it was a time for scary things. Mostly for humans to be scary and silly to each other, it was safe. Usually. He felt on edge, hearing things, seeing things out of the corner of his eye... Sounded like dogs. Normally he liked dogs. But these ones gave him the shivers. And then someone he recognized popped up and started yelling at him. He scowled at her, ears pinned back. "Stupid?" he demanded of her, "Not me. I not Senshi of Dogs. Senshi of Chrysocyon! Chrysocyon do not do this."

Retzian had nothing against Fang. In fact he had been surprisingly easy to deal with and he had given his energy of his own free will so of course she enjoyed that but…he was dog like and whatever chasing her was…also dog like so of course her brain would have made that leap. “I don’t know what a Chrysocyon is! Is that what’s chasing me? Can’t you call it off?”
The growling was getting closer and she shuddered and reached out, grabbing Fang’s wrist and pulling him along with her. If he wasn’t the one who had called these beasts or whatever they were…then he shouldn’t have to be eaten by them. She couldn’t stand the idea of just…well.
If he were to get eaten it would only be because she couldn’t get away on her own…so…so…
“Do you speak dog? What do they want?”
It wasn’t that Retzian feared dogs but…she could honestly say that she didn’t like them when they sounded like that.

Fang huffed at her—he wasn't some magic being—well. Not the sort that could literally just communicate with random animals, anyway! But then, suddenly, he was being pulled along, and he growled fiercely over his shoulder towards the sounds of the barking. Even though he knew he couldn't speak it, he still tried to understand, in some way—after all, just because he couldn't hear words like some Disney movie didn't mean he wasn't very attuned to the general ideas of their languages—but all he could really hear from the tones was extreme aggression. He couldn't even make any guesses as to why they were so angry. "To fight," he finally answered the lieutenant at his side. "Angry."

Retzian’s brows furrowed further and she tightened her hold on his wrist, moving swiftly. “Look, let’s just run okay? We don’t need to get eaten tonight, I know we’re supposed to be enemies but. You’re not bad for a senshi.” And that was the truth. Any senshi who willingly gave energy…was useful. He could make her life easier, so she would do her best to run with him so they both didn’t get killed by rabid angry dogs.
There was a brighter area of town up ahead, and hopefully the two of them could duck into some late night diner or convenience store in order to get away from them, but once Retzian had gotten into the light, there was a growl and what sounded like a squeal of pain and then…
And then nothing.
She paused and released Fang’s wrist after a few long seconds of silence.
“...Is..are they gone?”
…Why would he know? He even said that he wasn’t the senshi of dogs. But.
The question could simply be generic.
Maybe.

Fang held a finger to his lips, barely glancing at Retzian to make sure she was listening for the moment, and then turned back to where he'd last heard the awful sounding animals. He concentrated, ears flicking and rotating back and forth as he strained to detect any trace of them. There was nothing—no claws clicking on pavement, no panting, no whining. He gave the air a sniff, but it didn't help very much, just giving him a noseful of the scent of car oil and asphalt. Still, they appeared to be gone, for sure. "Gone," he finally answered, turning to look at Retzian again. "Okay? Scared? Hurt?" He gave her a serious look as he glanced over her, inspecting for injuries.

Retzian gave a small, shakey laugh and shook her head. “I’m okay. Just. Didn’t realize I had any kind of a fear of dogs but…wow.”
She supposed that fears could just…happen but…this was kind of almost silly.
“I’m not hurt, but. You?” Not that the Lieutenant wanted to care but…he was looking her over as though she were important and…perhaps he was too. A little.
Maybe.
“I’m glad that’s over. But. I suppose we should go our separate ways…unless you’d like to donate a little more energy tonight? Up to you, but I would appreciate it.”

Fang considered this for a long moment. She was unhurt, that was good... Though a sudden fear of dogs must not be good. They were only phantoms, some kind of trick played upon them by... He couldn't be sure what it was that was doing this to them, but it wasn't anything with good intentions, obviously. He sucked on his teeth as he thought on her question, examining himself. No, he didn't seem to be hurt either. But neither did he really feel up to giving energy tonight; even if he wasn't hurt, he was still shaken by the encounter. Being chased by aggressive canines, phantom or not, was something that required him to just go home, take a shower, and pass out in bed, and he doubted he'd be able to take a good, calming shower if he gave up energy. "Am okay, but... not tonight. Sorry," he said, shaking his head, ears flattening. "Glad you are... okay."

Retzian nodded and cleared her throat. “No worries. It was just a thought. Maybe next time, Fang.” Swallowing, she turned away, wishing she had the skills to simply teleport into the night as Lopezite and Laven could but…
Maybe soon. Hopefully soon. Until then…
The lieutenant gave a curt nod and walked off into the night instead, making sure to keep to the more well lit areas as she headed home.
