DREAM JOB He’s not sure–he hasn’t really thought about it much yet. He’s still a kid. Why should he have to decide his future right now?
CURRENT OCCUPATION Student

xxxPERSONALITYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

WITTY Erikk is a clever boy with a silver tongue. He’s good at reading people, and driving a conversation where he wants it to go. Also known to be a bit of a smart aleck, Erikk always has something to say and will not hesitate to let his opinions be known with a snide remark or two.

ESCAPIST Erikk prefers not to get involved in the day-to-day squabbling at home. Instead he keeps to the tree in the back yard where he can get some peace and quiet, and maybe escape to another world in a good book. Sometimes he just needs to get away from reality for a little while.

WATCHFUL Just because Erikk likes to get away doesn't mean he's not paying attention. As he's grown, Erikk has always kept a watchful eye on his older siblings. He's seen it all--the good and the dreadful--and has come to his own conclusions on their messy family. While he loves them all, he doesn't always agree with their decisions, and is using what he's learned to help guide his little brothers and sisters coming after him. His biggest regret is not being able to do anything to help Flick. He won't let the same thing happen to his younger siblings; not if he has anything to say about it.

PERCEPTIVE All that scouting from the trees has given Erikk a keen eye for detail, though he's mostly limited to what he knows intimately. He'll notice if the smallest thing is out of place in his room, or the slight bite in his sibling's tone when they're feeling tense, but he's not perfect. After seeing Chadwick daily and then suddenly not at all when he was kicked from the house, Erikk’s had no idea it's been Chadwick and not Cenek occasionally coming to visit. He just couldn't have expected it, and therefore never questions why Cenek has been hanging around so much despite moving out. Still, Erikk likes to think he's got a firm handle about the going-ons at home, and even more-so the simpler things like catching a glaring typo in the book he's been reading.

SKEPTIC Don’t bother buttering him up with kind words and sweet promises–Erikk will have none of it. At this point in life, he’s learned it’s best not to take anyone at their word. You can say you’re going to be around, you can say you’re going to do better, but then turn around and spend ¾ of the year away from home anyway. Words are meaningless. It’s actions that speak volumes. In that sense the motto, “I’ll believe it when I see it” carries on in all aspects of his life. Aliens? Fake. There’s just no way; Earth would have had clear contact by now. As good as hackers are these days, if they were here, there’s just no way it wouldn’t be common knowledge. Global Warming? It’s everywhere. It’s horrible. Maybe if humans stopped killing the rainforests, it wouldn’t be such an issue. Ghosts? Well, everyone says they’re real, but Erikk’s certainly never seen one. He can’t exactly take his siblings’ or their friends’ word for it, what if it’s just hazing for the younger kids? The jury’s out on that one until he gets to the Sorting Feast–Oh. Oh. Okay. Yeah, that sure was a ghost floating over the tables. Ghosts are real. Honestly, he was really hoping that it was just hazing. No thanks.

ENVIRONMENTALIST Say it with him, everyone: Humans (clap) do (clap) not (clap) rule (clap) the (clap) Earth! (clap) This is all of our planet. It belongs to every living creature just as much as it does any one person. If you want to get technical, there’s more insects than there are humans. If anything, Earth belongs to the bugs. With that said, there’s nothing that irks Erikk quite like people’s indifference to steadily destroying their own planet. Surviving is one thing, but tearing down whole forests in excess, and not even bothering to replant? It’s straight madness. So, Erikk has taken it upon himself to help the planet heal from its abusers in any way that he can–most notably, he likes to bury pine cones and acorns anywhere he sees that could use a little extra greenery.

LIKES
Books with worldbuilding - Erikk likes the escape into another world.
Fire. Sure, it can be scary (like when it burns your big brother to an unrecognizable crisp) but through fire, new life springs up from the ashes. Oh, and you can make smores.
Tree climbing. Look at that view!
Roasted brussels sprouts
Treacle Tarts

DISLIKES
When bugs are all over the tree he’s climbing. It’s really annoying to climb over them without squishing them. Sometimes it can’t be helped.
Screaming children. Bro, it’s just not that serious.
The taste of blood– Aidene gave him some once. No thanks. He’d rather not be stuck to that for the rest of his existence. He’d rather eat boiled brussel sprouts than drink blood. Eugh!
Boiled brussels sprouts
Cowards: Good intentions and words are nothing on their own. Go ahead and pay all the lip service you want, but none of it matters if you don’t act on it.
Ghosts, now that he knows that they’re real. That’s creepy. No thank you.

STRENGTHS
Not easily fooled by people's tricks and stories.
Adaptable. Capable of going with the flow in most situations.

WEAKNESSES
Has been known to stubbornly hold on to a grudge.
Ironically, while he takes issue with others not following through on their word, he also has issues not communicating when there's something he plans to do. It's not so much the serious stuff like sneaking out without telling anyone (he has learned to communicate with Finch in his own way, by for example taking his jacket from its usual spot when he leaves so she'll know), but more-so like when he plans to try a book a classmate recommended, he's not sure he'll actually have the time, so he never says he he'll try it when he does. Small lapses in communication.

DESIRES
To take it easy and enjoy his school life to the fullest.
To finally try out for the Quidditch team.

FEARS
Open water. You never know what might be lurking beneath the depths. He’ll stick with swimming pools.
Growing up to be like his parents.

xxxBACKSTORYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

EARLY CHILDHOOD Erikk was born as lucky number 7 of Alarick and Kadence Knapp’s hoard of children. The good thing about having so many siblings was that it was never lonely. There were always people to talk to when he wanted, but sometimes a full house could be a little much. Erikk’s mum seemed stretched too thin and his dad was never around, ever the workaholic. Sometimes things–and children–just got overlooked. It was one of those instances that cost the life of his brother Deepak. Erikk was just a toddler at the time, and as a result, he only really remembers Dee through photos and stories from his older siblings.

Erikk liked to spend time with his oldest sister, Brook. Where there was Brook, there were often snacks to be shared, and her friends were pretty cool too. Rhea and Aidene seemed to like to adopt little siblings for themselves. Rhea mentioned she used to teach Dominik and Deepak gymnastics, and Aidene wanted to teach Erikk how to fight! It was so much fun. He even learned a little baking, and the best ways to doctor up instant noodle cups. There were a few Summers where suddenly Aidene had little to do with him, leaving him sad and confused. Once she graduated, she was around much more, and eventually gave him a proper reason as to why–it turns out vampirification has quite the adjustment period. They’ve gotten along famously since, and Erikk even tried some blood (never again), but it left him with the impression even the nicest people can be unreliable.

You’d think Mum would have learned losing a kid was painful, but no. As Erikk grew, he became more and more aware of the problems in the household. His favorite brother (don’t tell anyone!), Chadwick, was kicked out for loving another boy. What did that matter? Love was a good thing, wasn’t it? Was she just jealous that Chadwick’s boyfriend spent time with him and Dad was barely home for her? After that, when Cenek was off at school, Erikk was left as the man of the house. He didn’t like that, but someone had to look out for his little siblings, especially now that Flick found a new family to live with. Erikk really missed Flick. He missed Chadwick. He wondered if he might have missed Deepak, had he known him better.

Erikk tried his best. Sometimes still, he needed to get away. It was a lot of work for a little boy. When he did, he could be found high above in the tree out back, nose buried in a book while simultaneously keeping an eye out for his siblings, sometimes his nieces and nephews, and eventually the little neighbor boy. Sometimes Erikk would play with them, or teach them about the forests surrounding their homes. He showed them how to plant acorns to get oak trees. Erikk was especially good at it–like magic, his plants always seemed to sprout as soon as they were buried.

Dad had an important job, and that meant he was always gone. Erikk didn’t care. What’s the point in a good job if you’re never home? If you never see your kids? If you let your wife toss them aside for being themselves? Erikk couldn’t stand it, and then one day he just waltzes home saying he was suddenly going to do better. He was going to be there for them more. Yeah, right. He’d believe it when he saw it–and he did, but it was still so very wrong. Alarick hadn’t changed at all. Sure, in comparison to his old job, it seemed like he was around all the time! But he was a Professor at Hogwarts, which meant he was still gone for 9 months of the bloody year. He might see his kids at school every day, but what about the ones he left behind at home? What if one of them wasn’t magic, what then? They’d never earn their “quality time” with dear ol’ Dad?

Erikk’s Hogwarts acceptance letter came and went just as he expected. What good would it do him, moving from Mum’s territory to Dad’s? Erikk still considered himself the man of the house, especially since Cenek had long moved out. What was he supposed to do, just leave his little siblings? While there was a part of him that had no interest in going, another part was anxiously awaiting the newfound freedom that would come with leaving Godric’s Hollow, so rarely done outside of visits with his grandparents. The night before he left for the station, he passed the torch of “Man of the House” on to Henrick. Gottie may have been the oldest boy of the house now, but… Yeah, Erikk was pretty sure Henrick was the right call.

SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR Erikk was sorted to Slytherin rather than Gryffindor, much to his absolute relief. As far away from his dad as humanly possible: Perfect. His year was spent snarking in his classes and exploring the castle to find every alternate route he possibly could in case of a quick escape. He checked out Dueling club, but bailed when he realized he wouldn't be able to do anything until next year. Besides that, he joined the Quidditch team as a reserve and spent time with the Herbology Club.

SECOND YEAR Erikk started his master plan of sneakily planting as many tree sprouts as possible, bringing in a whole bag of seeds he collected throughout the Summer in Godric's Hollow. He met a girl that initially went for his throat over this, but she calmed and was actually sort of charming once she realized he was doing some good for the planet. After receiving the nickname Tree Boy, he decided to return the favor and call Jaelah Mockingjae in the start of what Erikk could only assume would be a very entertaining friendship. This year he joined the Dueling Club officially, and made first string Beater for the Quidditch team.

There was a multi-house scrimmage match on the pitch that Spring. Unfortunately Erikk drew the short straw and didn't get to play himself, but Dominik and Zack absolutely slaughtered the competition. It was brilliant! Seemed the hospital wing would be busy for a while.

Over the Summer, yet another Knapp came into the fold: Kelebek. Hopefully his parents would finally be done after this one.
