11 - 15: Flood One late-summer storm has caused the rivers to swell, and increased the risk of someone or something getting swept away. You happen to be in the right place at the right time to catch sight of a thing bobbing in the waters. What is it and how will you help?

He usually loved storms, they were the perfect ambience for writing as an author. However this one had been going on for a day or two and he was running low on ink again.
Time to go shopping. He got an oilskin bag and a waterproof coat and took one look outside and questioned his own judgement. The sky was still black as midnight and rain came down in a steady perpendicular stream.
Joy.
He walked out anyway, wondering if Nimia would be there or what she was up to in general. She had had a zest for life that vibrated well with his own.

With Nimia's time visiting her grandparents coming to an end, the teenager had tried to make the most of things. She spent as much time enjoying the scenery with her younger Aunts and Uncles as possible, as well as buying up as buying up supplies she wouldn't have access too in the North. So many of the spells she'd studied here wouldn't be possible without local components and while she could have them sent to her the cost would nearly triple. If it meant dragging an extra trunk or two back home then so be it.
It was those few days that really put a stop it all. Exploring anything local in a storm wasn't safe and transporting supplies now would only ruin them. So, for the most part, she'd stayed indoors. That is until the shop owner she'd been bargaining with had stated her order was ready and he was going out of town that very day so if she wanted it she had to pick it up. In the rain.
Offers had been made to send it to her through a courier, but Nimia refused. Instead, she tossed a cloak around her shoulders, pulled her hair back and set off into the storm. Her lenses were kept safe in a satchel at her side. She'd gone through enough storms to know that once the wind picked up there would be no way to block them from the rain and it was just easier to keep them hidden.
But spirits, would this rain ever end?

He reached the store without incident, though he was mildly more grumpy than normal because he was quite wet.
Oba hardly rained, Matori seemed to be making up for its drier cousin.
He noticed a large order of supplies by the door and dodged neatly around it to go to the shelf that contained ink. If there was ever a shortage of ink he would be greatly affected by it.
He browsed and got what he needed. It was still raining.

The closer Nimia came to town the more her concern grew. Not once had the rain let up; rather, it came down harder now than it ever had before and was soon building in the streets. What surely had started as smaller puddles were started to take over the well worn pathways and if shopkeepers weren't careful it could very well take over! There was no point in reaching for the hem of her skirts; they were already soaked through, but at least Nimia's boots would keep her feet dry. When she approached the store she was happy to see that it hadn't yet been touched. Water was rising around them, but the building itself was up a little higher than others around it. A great gust of wind shoved Nimia in through the door, and the entirety of her soaked frame slammed into something- -that something being Morleas. She squealed and tried to grab hold of anything to stop her, but her hands were too water logged to be of much help.

He was watching out the window with the glummest expression when he saw a figure enter from the sideways rain. She slammed into him and it was instinct and relief that had him grabbing her before she fell. It was Nimia! The person he most wanted to see! "Hello there." He righted her back solidly onto her feet. "Sorry about that!" He was now much more focused on his friend than the rain. "Can't believe this weather, I knew Matori could get wet but this is a tad excessive." Especially for someone who was used to a desert climate.

"Morleas?!" Nimia's cheeks flushed violet now that she knew exactly who she was clinging to. It took her a moment to gather her footing, partially due to the now rain slicked floor and her own nerves, but once she'd calmed enough the Matorian dug through her bag for her spectacles. "N-no, you don't have to apologize, it was my fault." Lifting the lenses, she briefly inspected them for damage before brushing her soaking wet hair away and putting them on. "I didn't expect it to be as bad as it is out there. The streets are flooding! And it's nearly to the door." This time she turned toward the shop keep. "I don't know how high it's going to get, but if it gets in anything on the ground level will be ruined." Including, now that she'd noticed, her own packages! Nimia crouched down to start lifting them up onto the counter for safe keeping. "That so?"The older shop keep curled his lip and gave a worried 'hmm'. "No one else here, but you two; mind giving me a hand prepping?"

Morleas looked in panic at all the wonderful writing supplies in danger of being quite ruined for forever. "Yes lets go quickly, the higher up we can get the water sensitive stuff the better. Is there by chance an attic to this shop?" He asked hopefully. The water coming up that fast posed another risk too. "Is there higher ground for us too? I don't fancy getting stuck in a building with no way above water once we get the supplies safe." He had many more books to write after all. No tragic ending for him.

"There's an attic, but it's small. It's got a hatch to get out though if we need it." Nimia watched as the shopkeep hustled from around the counter and started assessing his wares. He was likely figuring out what she'd already known; that there was no way they could get everything out of harms way. Still, between the three of them, surely they could save enough to make a dent. "I'm going to buy us a little time." Turning this way and that, Nimia's gaze settled on an inkwell next to the shopkeep's ledger. She leaned over the counter to snatch it up, minding her wet sleeves all the while so that she didn't drip onto his paperwork. It wouldn't be as good as the chalk she was used to, but Nimia didn't have time to fuss about components. Thankfully the back of the door was dry enough to work with. Nimia crouched, then dipped her finger into the ink well and began to draw. Now that she was closer to the street she could hear the speed of the water picking up, and so in turn did her heartbeat. It didn't take long for a magic circle to take route and when Nimia stood back the painted runes started to shine. At first the color was a bright, nearly blinding green but the light quickly settled into a dull glow. "I made a barrier to block out the water, but it won't hold against a full flood." Turning back to the two men, Nimia gave a nervous exhale. "Here's hoping it slows down?"The shopkeep nodded and started dipped down to lift a stack of journals from the lowest shelf to the highest. There was no rhyme or reason to his movements; rather, he was just trying to fit as much as he could into the space.

"An attic with an escape is good enough for me." Morleas bent to help as well. They worked to safeguard their mutual passion of stationary. After all if this store and perhaps other stores in the region were damaged then how soon could they bring their items back into stock. Plus the particular sotre was fair and at times quite generous with their goods. He lifted the heaviest items to save the other two the trouble. The work picked up a rythym and was going rather well. "Your spell work, its so amazing." He said to Nimia in a fait lull of activity," And beautiful too, I've never seen quite that shade of green before." She always seemed to inspire his creativity. She had a wonderful gift. All he could do was light a candle and it helped if it was a freshly extinguished one with the wick still hot.

Somewhere along the line Nimia had been fortunate enough to come across a leather cord that she used to tie up her hair. She'd also taken off her outer cloak since it was no longer keeping her dry and might have also taken raised her skirt too if the menfolk weren't around. Matori's standards of 'modesty' were so much different than they were back home and even though her own family wasn't shy about showing skin she certainly was. Nimia was lifting a stack of bound paper up the steps to the waiting shopkeep when Morleas caught her attention. She turned back to him, arms still out even though the shopkeep had taken his quarry, and blinked. "It's...not that uncommon in spellwork back home." Her cheeks darkened a little, either out of embarrassment for being complimented or out of realization that she was holding up progress she couldn't say. She stepped out of the way and instead went back to gathering materials. "Nothing special," she murmured, ducking her head to keep from looking at Morleas.

Morleas 6
He grinned at her back. "Whereabouts in Zena are you from?" He felt like a little talk made the work go quicker and helped him not to think about how long they had until her mystical ward broke under the weight of water that may or may not storm the door, though from the look of things outside the water would not be stopping anytime soon.
He knew very little of the places outside Oba and had learned a lot about Matori since he had moved here, but the rest of Tendaji, Belrea and Kahikinia remained a mystery to him. There was just so much out there to see and write about!
He handed the bemused shop keep a box full of inkwells in sturdy pots. It was heavy but well built.
"I can barely light a candle with my magic, though that is about all a writer needs."

"Coeld, actually." As odd as it felt to be talking about home with everything going on it was actually helping Nimia's nerves. Her heartrate wasn't quite as fast as it had been, and she found that she could focus better on sorting through what books should be saved and what would have to weather the storm (even if, in her heart, she wished she could save them all). "Closer to the border. My baba was raised in Zena, but his family's nomadic so they've been all over. I think my grandfathers are in Belrea now, actually." At least, they had been the last time Baba got a letter. He'd said something about airships and seeing her Aunt Ygraine, but that was the end of it. "Papa's family lives here, though, so I visit when I can."

"That is so very cool, I think that a lot of travel is great for the soul and the mind." The water was battering her wards now, but so far they held strong. He was proud of her skill. He couldn't make a doodle and make the water stop. He could pour his soul out later writing about the scenario though. It made him less useful in the moment but he could pack supplies well enough. He too wanted to save it all, wanted a room in his house one day just full of ink and paints and paper. "You family is well traveled. My Dad is, but I've only seen Oba and here. Honestly here is nice and I could stay forever except that I want to write about different places therefor best practice is that I go there." He hefted a huge box of paper. So much potential, out of the way of the oncoming water. "Though desert is starting to sound pretty good right about now." She had a big family and that was good. He had a few aunts and distant relations besides his dad. His mom such as she was did not count.

The sound of water thudding against the side of the building made Nimia shudder. Her barrier wouldn't hold for much longer now, and by the look on the shopkeep's face he knew as well as she that they didn't have long. "I-I-I don't think I'd travel much if I didn't have family this far South." Instead of grabbing anything else, Nimia gave one last sweep of the area and made sure that Morleas handed his load off before shooing him upward. "I'm not much of an adventurous sort; it's too scary." Like this. This was a lot to handle! "If you've ever a mind to see snow you're welcome to visit, but later-" She waved her hands toward the stairs and looked nervously at the door. "Up up. We need to move." If they made it through this then she would gladly welcome his visit, should he choose too, but right now she wanted to make sure they were in the attic as fast as possible and safe.
