6 - 10: Mudslide It has been a dry few weeks, and many were excited about the rains coming in. But alas, it seems that too much rain has caused a mudslide. The damage isn't bad, but there might be a few people missing that need to be tracked down.

Of course it would rain the entire first week of her stay in Zinris. Enya wanted so desperately to explore Yael that she'd tried to traverse the terrain despite the weather, but she learned very quickly that getting around in the mists when there was an even thicker fog on made it impossible. So, she'd stuck around her Aunts' home to help out with chores and training with her cousins.

Still, it ate at her.

So, naturally, when the weather was just right she skipped out on training. Even if she was visiting there was an expectation in the village to keep up her skills, more so since some of the older Elaria looked down on her more 'free spirited' upbringing. Enya didn't much care, though, and while she would have normally asked one of her cousins to come with her she'd decided it wasn't worth the risk of capture.

Word would get back to her family of course, but at least for a day Enya could finally see Yael.

Pruu had taken some time to get away from the crowd, sitting on a cliffside to clear her mind. If was.. an adjustment to have Enya around the house. It was the first time the girl had been there. The first time any solid evidence of Pyrrha's life was there. She could look at the girl and see Pyrrha's influence in so many ways.

Frankly, it was still a little surprising that the girl was there at all. Not an Elarian, but absolutely family. Of course, Enya had been welcomed with open arms from the whole family. Getting that trust, seeing the girls interact and befriend each other.. it was immeasurably heartwarming.

When a messenger scurried up to tell her Enya had snuck off, Pruu only sighed with the tiniest hint of a smile. Enya had been cooped up in the house with al the rains that had gone through... It was a very Pyrrha thing to do. She couldn't blame her niece at all.

Still, she got up and went to search a little. While she trusted that Enya could take care of herself.. she didn't exactly trust some of her sisters to respect her presence. She would feel better if Enya had someone with her.

As she headed out, she slipped on a loose stone that moved easily with the slicked mud. She windmilled her arms and caught herself, but her lips pressed now with concern. It had been some time since Yael had seen so much rain. It wasn't like the waterlands of Kahi'kina. Even those experienced with the land could get caught up in the unstable landscape. With a quick prayer for Elzira's guidance, she continued on her search.

The sudden shifts in stability wasn't anything that Enya took as a concern. After having been raised near so many lakes, streams, and the ocean itself porous terrain was nothing knew to her. In so many ways being this far removed from Zinris itself brought her closer to her mother tree and the family she'd left behind. While she cared deeply for her family and Elzira, this was more her speed.

As brazen as she was, Enya tried to take her time making her way through the trees. She wasn't foolish enough to think that nothing would happen to her which is why she brought her preferred weapon - a trident - with her. Still, the Elidae was foolish enough to keep pressing her luck when it got harder to walk. There was more muck here at the base of a large cliff than anywhere else, and each step it went nearly to her knee.

She didn't notice that the hillside had started to come undone until it was nearly upon her. Sounds of tree trunks crashing onto the giant, monolithic stones that dotted Yael caused the teenager to turn and her heart sank.

Enya's first instinct was to run, but with the mud holding her back she knew she wouldn't be able to. Instead, she jabbed her trident into the side of the closest tree and used all of her strength to pull herself up. The tree wouldn't last, but if it could keep her above the flow....

...and of course when the mudslide slammed against it she screamed.

Pruu only got a little further before she felt the shifting of the ground. The source came from some distance to the side, but she could see the widening progression of the earth slipping down. Though she bolted for solid ground, the mudslide was faster. She slid with a yelp for quite a few feet before she managed to catch onto a sturdy tree and looked around with wide eyes.

Okay, it wasn't aimed for Zinris, but who knew if the collapse would cause anything else to fall. There was no way for her to get to town anytime soon either to warn-

Her head snapped up alert when she heard the scream. It wasn't immediate recognition, but the realization made her stomach sink into her legs. "Enya!" she screamed out. If her niece got hurt... She couldn't just stay there! Pruu clenched her jaw and released her grip on the tree so that she could slip down along the trees like stepping stones.

"Enya, can you hear me?"

The mudslide was over almost as fast as it had begun, but that didn't mean that it was quick for Enya. For the teenager it went on for an eternity and she had just barely managed to hold out through the worst of it.

Before the mudslide the branch she was currently clinging to had been too far above her head to reach. Now? Once the tree had been knocked over it was barely a few inches above the muck. Enya never hung on for dear life throughout the process, even when her hips started to get dragged down but thankfully things started to slow before she was taken.

Still, she was stuck and the ground around her was too soft to let go of her branch. She'd tried that once already and very nearly sunk down further.

At first she didn't hear her Aunt over the sound of nature's fury and her own screaming. When she did however, she called out desperately. "I'm over here! Please, I need help!"

It wasn't much, but just hearing Enya's voice gave Pruu a sense of relief. It meant her niece wasn't stuck underneath the mud! At least, not yet.

She moved as fast as she could, her movements jerking between her legs getting sucked in by the mud while she yanked herself along the branches of the trees. Thanks Elzira that the flow of the mud was slowing down! While running with the mud would have been a little faster, this way was at least safer.

It had been some time since she had felt such a spark of fear. That combined with the effort of merely moving had her sweating by the time she caught sight of her niece.

"Enya! Are you hurt?" she asked as she balanced herself on the fallen tree. Her feet were slick with the mud, so she went down to all fours to head for the end that Enya clung to.

Clinging onto the fallen tree took all of Enya's strength and when her Aunt's weight caused it to shudder she very nearly dropped her hold. The teen cried out in surprise before gritting her teeth and doubling down. Mama Pyrrha may have been lax on the physical side of her training, but she only accounted for half of Enya's upbringing. The other side didn't so much as give her an inch and right now it was that blood that kept her steady.

"N-no..." She huffed. "I'm just...just stuck..." Nothing hurt in the way of a break or a wound, but her muscles were screaming. The muck that clung to her hips was weighing her down when all she wanted was to reach for the Elarian. "I can't let go."

Pruu let out a long breath, eyes flicking around to make sure the log wasn't going to roll or sink as it shifted under her weight. The branches should be enough to keep it stable, but she didn't want to push their luck. It was better to move quickly.

"You just keep holding tight," she said with a firm nod. She reached down to scoop at the mud experimentally. It was thick and heavy, and clung to her skin when she tipped her hand. If this was that deep, Enya would be quite stuck indeed. "I'll do the work here. You just hold on. This muck is going to be difficult to move enough to get you out. But, it should also be more willing to stay out of the way." With her legs tight around the trunk, she reached out to start scooping at the mud. There was some shifting, but the muck mostly stayed where she pushed it. The suction on your legs will be the tough part. Let me know when you feel it move and I'll pull on you."

Enya nodded her head and gathered her strength to get a better grip on the branch. She wasn't unused to mudslides; a lifetime in the islands had led to some sticky situations, but this was so much more than anything she'd faced before. Still, she wasn't alone and she was doing her best to use her Aunt's words to calm her. She bit back her fear, blinked away tears that built up and took a deep breath.

When she shifted her hips, Enya almost didn't realize that she'd been able to do it at all. The moment she did she gave an experimental tug, lifting herself up just a bit before it sunk in. "I can move! It's a little, but I think I can move if you pull me up!"

Pruu's arm was beginning to feel the burn of effort. Slinging mud around was definitely a new use of her muscles, and there was plenty of it to work with. When Enya showed movement, she paused a moment to take a breath and shake out her arm. She wiped off as much muck as she could onto her clothes and readjusted her legs to hug as securely to the branch as possible. Then she freed up both hands to reach for Enya for the best grip she could get. "Alright, on three. One, two, three!" With a grunt of effort, she pulled up as hard as she could to help her niece reach the branch.

If she just had something to kick against then Enya might have been able to reach her Aunt. As it was the teenager's arms were shaking from the strain. She pulled herself up bit by bit because eager as she was to be free the one time she'd tried a larger pull she nearly lost her grip entirely.

When Pruu reached for her Enya tried her best not to let the fear consume her. In order for the Elarian to pull her up she'd have to let go of the branch that was keeping her from slipping and that....What if she fell? What if Pruu couldn't pull her up and the mud went over her head? She'd seen enough animals suffocate in mud pits back home to know the risks.

Still...she didn't want to die here! So, bolstering what remained of her courage, Enya grabbed onto Pruu as hard as she could and when she actually made it up to her she was too exhausted to celebrate. Muck still hung heavy on the teenager's lower half, but at least she was free.

Enya's grip made it immediately apparent to Pruu that the youth was exhausted. She worked as much as she could with her niece's efforts and pulled until Enya was hugged up tight against her. "I've got you. Take a breath," she encouraged as she pulled the both of them up to the branch.

Once they were sitting on top of the branch again, she let out a long breath and grunted lightly. There was no time to sit just yet. "It is not stable enough out here. We need to get closer to the trunk before we rest." She hugged Enya against herself again and shimmied back toward the trunk.

There.. she kept a firm hold on her niece in a quiet moment of relief. Then she started brushing her hands along Enya's legs. She was quickly checking for injuries while also just wiping the mud free. "Are you hurt?"

Taking a deep breath was harder than Pruu made it seem. Enya's anxiety had yet to fall away and every time she drew air into her lungs it was quickly followed with a shudder. Tears had long since made tracks down the filth on her cheeks, and the teen could feel their warmth once more.

Giving a little nod, Enya did her best to move with Pruu closer to the trunk. It was an awkward shimmy, but with the older Elarian's hold on her she felt safe. At the question Enya shook her head and curled closer to her Aunt, very nearly burying her face against the Elarian. "No...just sore..." She murmured.

Pruu got her own breathing under control quickly, and used the time to exaggerate each slow inhale and exhale for Enya to follow. She wasn't used to the display of emotion coming from Enya. Still, she understood it. "You did well. We may rest here until you are ready."

Besides that, she needed a few moments for herself as well. Hearing and seeing her niece in distress had put a vice around her chest that was only just releasing. If Enya had been hurt during this visit, she would have had a hard time forgiving herself.
