I was wondering if there are and modern day Hippie communes still around.
I live in northern California and never see any hippies around The subculture is almost dissiperd (considering I live 100 miles away from San Francisco) My dad tells me up north by Humboldt there is a lot of them.

Do a Google search. Go visit the place your dad is talking about. Get in contact with some of the Rainbow Tribe; if nobody else knows, they might.

I work at Chuck E Cheese, and some hippies came in for a birthday party. I got pretty excited. sweatdrop
The mom's name was Wildflower and the kid's name was Ostarra. It made me happy inside. >.<

Off-topic: Chuck E. Cheese was awesome in the 80's - all those classic arcade video games! XD

Well, there's no communes in my area, unfortunately. But I get all my jewelry from this old hippie couple that always seem to be sitting around downtown. They're funny because the woman has blonde dreds and no teeth.

Seriously, though. I've been thinking about saving up for a trip to Europe the summer before college, and #1 on my list of places to visit is Christiania. If you haven't heard of it, it's this commune that's been going since the early 70s, ever since some hippies started squatting on abandoned barracks in Copenhagen, Denmark. They govern by consensus, have an open drug trade, and are very eco-conscious. I just hope the Danish government doesn't shut them down before I get a chance to see it. Already it has decreased in the love-ness.

If you can't find your own commune, start one! That's what one of my friends wants to do.

SERIOUSLY!! READ THIS!! jump on a plane RIGHT now and head to NSW, Australia. There is a place inland from Byron Bay (full of hippies and surfers, also hosting the Byron Bay Blues Festival) called NIMBIN. It is seriously the most awesome place! FULL OF HIPPIES! they have marjuhana festivals and music festivals and everyone has dreads and armpit hair and wears hippie clothes! everyone there is a hippie! and they all do drugs there though, and I don't so its a bit odd.

i also live in northern california, and my family likes to go on drives alot up and down the coast, from san fransisco up to fort bragg. the only place i know with even the remote idea of a commune going on locally is up in Big Sur, and all i really know is that it is a family-oriented nudest colony.
it actually sounds really fun, except that it gets really cold there.
