Casablanca was not a brave or noble knight. That, she thought, was both obvious and, like, very reasonable. She only really knew one other person, she had no magic, and her weapon was a white flag.
There was a joke there about surrender, she was pretty sure.
Anyway, the point was, generally she did not get involved in magical conflicts, because she sucked very badly at being magical.
She was trying to change that, though. Trying to get out more, and do more powered up, because the Negaverse wasn't gonna wait for her to not suck, she was pretty sure. So, she was walking the city, when she realized that she was. Very close. To one of those icky chaos auras that she usually avoided.
Well, s**t.
Too close to run, now, that would be like...like showing fear in front of a bear, or whatever.
"Hey! Who's out there!"

It was inevitable that she would have to meet a member of the opposite side of the war, Retzian just hadn’t expected it to happen so quickly. She had felt the other aura coming closer and had slipped behind a tree, glancing out enough to watch the girl approach.
Her outfit was…
Interesting.
Like a one piece swimsuit with a long train.
Honestly, if the girl hadn’t looked so young, and if she hadn’t ever met her Captain, Retzian would have honestly had some thoughts about flirting, but…alas.
When she heard the summons to introduce herself, Retzian stepped out from behind the tree she had been counseling herself behind. “Lieutenant Retzian. I’m assuming since you called out to me, that you wouldn't be unwilling to donate your energy to my quota? How very kind of you to offer.” Her eyes roamed over the page and she wondered what the purpose of the stars were. She would have to ask Lopezite or Lavendualn the next time she saw one of them…
“Simply hold out your hand and we can get this taken care of quickly.”

Oh.
Oh dear.
Okay, so, there was a real actual Negaverse officer in front of her. Casablanca didn't see a real weapon--just a cute little jellyfish on a stick, which was only so much better than her star-decorated white flag. That wasn't bad, then! Maybe they were more evenly matched than she'd thought!
Casablanca put her hand son her hips. Squared her shoulders. Put on her most serious expression.
"I actually think it's, like, my job? To make sure that you don't drain energy from people? So that'd be a big fat no, actually."

“If it’s your job to make sure that I don’t drain energy from people, doesn’t it stand to reason that you should give your own in the ‘people’s’ place?” Retzian gave an amused little smile and kept her eyes on the Page, half annoyed at her reaction, and half pleased by it. If this was how self righteous the White Moon would be…well. It would be simple to talk them around with nothing more than a little logic.
“That’s the best way to make sure that I don’t hurt anyone else, isn’t it? Giving me some energy allows me to go home without finding anyone else to bother. If you deny me, that will do nothing but get my temper up, and then whoever I come across next will have to deal with the wrath of an angry lieutenant and honestly, I may take their starseed as well as their energy, and I’ll do it all in your name so…doesn’t it sound better to simply give me your hand and keep me in a happy mood, dear?”
She held her hand out once again, keeping a smile on her face and working to not look as threatening as she honestly wanted to be.

Casablanca rolled her eyes, putting a hand on her hip and popping it out a little bit. "No, see, because the whole thing is that you guys are bad, and you hurt people, and whatever you're taking energy for, it's for some kind of shitty, nefarious purpose, so! You can't, like, take anybody's energy if I beat your face in! Which is what my job is!"
Something something magical girl, something something defender of justice, something something whatever, Casablanca knew how to fight, and so that was what she was gonna do.
"And you know what? If you're such a twisted weirdo that you'd go out and murder someone because I pissed you off, that's all on you." It was like foster parents that would threaten to punish one twin for the other's perceived misdeeds. And fit hat's all the Negaverse was? Magically powered versions of shitty abusive parents?
Yeah, Casablanca knew how to handle that.
She moved forward and threw a punch, aiming for the woman's face.

“You need an attitude adjustment, girl.” Retzian’s words were nearly a growl, and even though she tried to move away from the punch, she wasn’t quite fast enough and the girl’s fist hit her face causing her cheek to go rather numb, the taste of blood beginning to fill her mouth.
…It wasn’t pleasant, that was for sure.
“So you’d rather break into a fight, start on pure violence rather than donate a little of your energy. You see, that kind of an attitude will get you killed one day, and I hope that I’m there to watch.”
Reaching out, she drew up her cat toy and shoved it right into the page’s face, scowling and working very hard not to just rub her injured cheek in annoyance, but she aimed a kick at the girl’s unprotected shin, going right with the tips of her heels.
With her hand, she reached out and grabbed the girl’s shoulder, beginning to pull energy from her, clearly angry.

"Yeah, yeah, you think so, and so does every foster parent and teacher I've ever had," Casablanca said sharply. "I'd rather stop you from hurting anybody than fuel your shitty machine."
That sounded very cool and brave, she thought, and it made her sound like she had more to go on than half a thought and a lot of theory.
She yelped when the cat toy was shoved in her face, and brought up a hand to shove it away, but it played distraction well enough--sharp heels contacted her shin, and she staggered, and a hand gripped her shoulder.
It felt strange, being drained, and she hated it, and she moved her foot to try and stomp on the instep of the Lieutenant's foot. Wasn't that the technique from that one old movie she'd watched one time? SING?

“Perhaps if so many have expressed concerns, it’s time for you to actually listen to them. Did you think that they would tell you such things because it would be beneficial for you?”
So, the girl had been in foster care, that…did make Retzian feel at least a little sympathy for her but…not enough for her to forgive this attitude.
Especially when she was greeted with a foot in her instep.
“Damn you!” That hurt, and without thinking, she shoved the page away as hard as she could, shoving the small bit of energy she had managed to collect into subspace and then breaking into a run.
…A hobbling run, but a run all the same. Whatever. Energy was energy, and maybe she would have taught the girl some kind of a lesson.
…Regardless, it almost felt like a win, so she would pretend that it was.
