Honestly - not sure where to put this one. I mean it is a Game, but it is not a Video Game.
But HEY!! I love D&D, honestly. Everything about D&D makes me soul happy. I want to know who here also enjoys this game.
Do you DM? Have you never played but always wanted to? Whats your fav Class - to play Whats your face Race - to play Best Sesh? Best Plot?
There are too many things that could be talked about with D&D so just share away emotion_kirakira tell me of your D&D experiences

Do you DM? nope! could be fun to try tho Have you never played but always wanted to? i've played a few times. Whats your fav Class - to play: i like wizards and going into necromancy Whats your face Race - to play: recently, i had a lot of fun with warforged Best Sesh? hmm, finishing mines of mines of phandelver was fun! Best Plot? started a curse of straud campaign, was really enjoying the plot of that but my group unfortunately took a hiatus and it's been over a year since we last played.
what about you? you play dnd often? do you play online or irl with friends?

very much into dnd! i'm currently in 3 campaigns right now and have characters i love for all of them.
i want to dm, but i don't really have any plans for it so far. i want to eventually create a homebrew world for it though. favorite class to play so far is bard, but i want to try artificer one day. i don't have a particular race i like to play, i just kind of choose whatever tickles my fancy at the moment and roll with it lol i don't think i've ever had a particular 'best session' because i have a lot that i enjoy, but i do have a favorite one for a different ttrpg that's like a crack-addled version of dnd.
it was a one shot session where we had to play bug exterminators for a town and there was a large plant in the middle of the town that rooted itself in to the ground. most of my team scurried around town clearing out all the bugs while me and another person tried to kill the plant, but i had realized that it was rooted in to the fountain, which had water that was sustaining it. i realized that the very last spell i took was a spell that did no damage, but could make things very light and easy to move. i hadn't used it all campaign, so the DM didn't remember that i had it, but once it was my turn and i told the DM what spell i was gonna use, he was like 'oh CRAP' and made the roll required to displace it 18 and above... and i got a nat 20 LMAO the plant had over 600 health, so it was basically the last boss and i took it out super quick Dx
previously in that campaign, my crew and i all met a lady who could turn into a dragon and had the magical powers of giving the power to also turn into a dragon, except you had to face your worst fears. we all rolled for it, and most of us failed or got decent rolls, and i got a crit fail. HOWEVER, i had this one-time use ability that let me make my crit fails into crit successes, so i got the ability to turn into a dragon. in the middle of my fight with the plant, i turned into a dragon and tail-slapped the plant into the large gate-wall of the town. it was GLORIOUS.

I played the Curse of Straud - I didn't enjoy it too much but that's because my DM at the time never did "session 0" or give you a mini breakdown or vibe of the campaign so we all made useless character for the setting pretty much and not one of us enjoyed it - whereas if we were told that was the module we were playing we would have prepped better.
warforged are fun - they are my pals fav race to play. I went years without playing D&D because groups fell apart then lockdown. I have started back up again, I'm DMing and it's my first time and I only have 2 players so we get through stuff faster. It's really difficult but I did 0 studying before. I feel like I should have been more familiar with the DM's manual.
I can't play online. I've tried a few times but honestly, about 80-90% of the reaction to me speaking is "I don't understand" or "I didn't get that" so i spend so much time repeating myself or talking like I'm brain dead so people can understand me that it removes me from the experience. I've actually hated it!!!! What a way to make a player feel self-concious. Even had a DM tell me "I should learn better English" if I wanted to play with English speakers....
I am a English Speaker natively but you know how some Americans can be - think they are the golden standard. bunch of bastards razz
If you were to DM - what kind of stories or campaigns would you run?

3 campaigns?! i am very jealous!!! what are your 3 characters for them? Just a brief synopsis.
I have been looking into artificers - and honestly - Im not thrilled. I get it if you wanna wield a gun but honestly. that takes me out of D&D. Unless you're in a D&D futuristic'esk setting.
I've just started DM'ing but you seem to be a very seasoned player (i didnt get to play much before DMing because not many people here play it) so if you have any tips/tricks or advise as a player for "what you think makes a good DM" or a good session I'M ALL YEARS because I'm struggling on how to make this amazing for my players. They say they enjoy it but they dont really end the session lookin buzzin (but we also play for like 8-12 hours) so mayb they are tired D:

okay so i've got a bard
who was originally an aarakocra cleric that has reincarnated multiple times. the campaign is about souls, so i asked if she could be like a phoenix that has rebirthed multiple times and my DM gave me the yes
then i've got a half water elf cleric
who's a b*****d child born from a noble water elf and a traveller. she was disowned for being only a half elf, and so she was given a retainer who became her guardian and the two lived their life on a remote island with lots of wildlife but hardly any people except for others who were also exiled and became hermits.
the last one i haven't gotten to play yet actually! it's a new campaign, but it's technically not dnd. it's another ttrpg called legend of the 5 rings. it's historical japan/china themed, very weeby lol.
i'm playing a courtier of the unicorn clan, which is basically the only clan that really accepts foreign culture and embraces it openly.
as for being a better dm? 8-12 hours is a LOT of dnd, cut that down to half. if you keep it at 8-12 hours, be sure to have lots of small breaks sprinkled in or just one big break in the middle to decompress and see how people feel. as for what i think makes a good dm, just be mindful of all the players at the table. we have a quiet player in the first campaign and he usually gets forgotten because of it. you could also put on some ambient music on to get a mood going. stuff like that can help lol. otherwise, just have fun
i have never dmed before but have played a druid though

8+ hours is a lot. The reasoning behind that so far is: we always played long sessions together because we could rarely play but with it being a small group of us who can commit I told them i would like to do shorter sessions, about 3-4 hours so we can try do it every second week. They have told me that's the minimum they'd accept but they'd be happy to play a session for as long as they can (they just wanna play)
Now I never DM'd or ran a campaign and I'm doing my own and not using modules so trying to figure out run time for was a little tricky. My last sesh was really short so I'm getting better at figuring out how much play time certain things are.
I did a little game of "hangman" in the session - there was a barrel with something that was clearly once written on it "here are the letters you can see" and let them play hangman to see if they could "figure out the name" they loved that. They thought that was hilarious.

yeahhh that would get frustrating! i'm Canadian so i don't know if i'd do much better but i like to think i'm pretty good at understanding what people are saying.
if i were a DM i would do a homebrew, i've always wanted to do a dark fantasy berserk-type story where the church would end up being the baddies.
