It had been a while since his promotion to Super, and Alkmene felt like it was probably a good idea to check in with Jadarite, let her know that he was happy with everything that had happened. And also that he'd still listen to her, because....look. Rank was all well and good, but she was smart, and he valued her opinions, and whatever.
Ugh, sincerity, gross.
He sent her a quick text on his tablet, wirth a location marker.
Quote: Hey, Jada. Thought we could do a walk-and-talk patrol, catch up on the whole post-promotion thing. If you've got time, drop by. If not, let me know.
She didn't seem like the type of girl to stand him up, but there was no knowing for sure, really.

Jada's underling had not remained her underling for all that long, but since coaching people towards promotion was an important part of a commanding officer's task, she couldn't hold it against him. She enjoyed his company well enough, anyway. His personality had never gotten on her nerves, his magic was useful enough in fights now that he'd gotten control over it, and his strategic style brought a new perspective to things. She had the evening free so of course she opted to join him. Connections were key, after all. She materialized at the target location, and immediately, her heels began to click on the concrete as she walked over. "I'm here," she said, giving Alkmene a nod. "Anything in particular on your mind to catch up on?"

Alkmene flashed Jada a grin and a cheeky little wave. Yeah, they were technically the same rank now, but she had just the right presence that it was easy to keep thinking of her as his boss, and so that meant that she was at least afforded the minimum level of respect he was capable of.
"Oh, just thought it'd be helpful to give you a bit of an update," he said, falling in next to her. His boot heels didn't so much click as they thonked, these says, a different pair to the rhythm of her lighter steps, but he still matched her. "Really liking this being-stronger thing. A lot fewer asskickings happening, and teleportation's a bit rough, but it's super useful." He made a thoughtful noise. "How'd you find it, when you got promoted? I bet it's different for you all, since you've gotta get used to weapons instead of kinda-instinctual magic."

"Glad to hear that you can save yourself these days," she said, because it was good. The less time she had to spend bailing out any Basics under her care, the more time she had to work on her own projects. "But, I'm still a call away if you need me," she added, because it would be inconvenient if he got overconfident or something and then died. "For fights, or for teleportation help. I think I've finally gotten that part down." As they walked, she summoned her axe and made a point of letting its edge glint under the streetlights. She still was hardly and expert in using it, but Alkmene didn't need to know that. "It's sharp," she said. "It does the job, and it scares off the basics before I even have to use it."

"Believe me, I'm glad about it too." Alkmene huffed dramatically. Really, it was painfully frustrating, having to rely on other people--and he hoped, at some point, that he'd be totally beyond it.
But he suspected that with the way his magic worked, he'd always be better in team environments. Probably a good thing his sister had sent him to such a well-organized one.
"Anyway, I don't intend to do anything stupid like not call for help when I need it." He snorted, and shook his head. "Good way to get dead, and I'd rather just call the axe-wielding badass for backup than have that happen." He flashed her his best charming grin, clearly deeply amused. "Best threat is an actual deadly weapon, I think."

"That's what the team is for," said Jadarite with a curt nod, even though she agreed with Alkmene's silent assessment. Teamwork was frustrating when it represented a personal failure. She hardly wanted to have to call in backup when she was on the verge of death. If it could be a preemptive, tactical thing, though? That was different. That was the ideal. They could work off of each others strengths, and leave a string of successful missions in their wake. "For example, I think the axe would be much more effective if your magic could keep someone from fighting back," she said. Then she wouldn't even have to worry so much about her technique being perfect. She'd just thrust the blade at the helpless target, and it would be done. "What did the upgrade do for your magic, anyway?" she asked. "I don't know if you've said."

Alkmene nodded, briefly. "True. The less they can do, the better off we are." He knew that made him a potent weapon, given the opportunity to deploy it. And he liked that. Liked that he had so much power and capability at his fingertips, even if his magic wasn't super useful one on one.
"Upgrade gave it more range, I think, and it takes more from the people in it. So pretty useful all around." Really, the more he got used to it, the more he liked his magic. Yeah, so he'd never be a one-to-one powerhouse--not with what he had now--but he could certainly do plenty to benefit the people around him.
"Thanks for meeting with me," he said. "Been a good chat."
Always reassuring, to hear that someone else thought he was doing well.

"Sounds useful, yes," she agreed making a mental note to take him with her next time she had to fight someone, even though these days she would have to request his presence instead of ordering it. "A good chat, yes," she agreed. It was good to know that they could still rely on each other after the situation had changed somewhat. "I look forwards to seeing where you go from here," she said, and the smile she flashed her before they started off on their patrol did not even have that much of an edge of sharpness to it.
