Sylvirah - 1

"Here you are, Ada," Sylvirah handed the chiavi a fat hare and the beast greedily took it into her beak. Ever since they had settled the creature had softened which was as much an annoyance as it was a blessing to Sylvirah. She no longer needed to hunt for every meal which caused Ada to lose a bit of her edge and if Sylvirah were being honest, gain a bit of weight. To others it made the avian look healthy instead of emaciated, but Sylvirah had never known her any other way.

Still, it made her more agreeable around young ones which was why she'd been saddled today. Ada and another chiavi, a solid black male, had been prepped for todays ride. Of course if she'd said anything to Ergon about this he may not have come at all, but what sort of Aunt would she be if she didn't teach her nephews the basics of flight? They would learn enough about the world from their parents and how to defend themselves, but survival was just as important.

"Is Yuli ready?"

Yngvara - 1

Her Uncle was going to be a pain when he caught wind of what her mother was up to. All he'd been told was to bring the boys and they would spend time together as a family. Grasping Yuli's reigns, Yngvara soothed the more wiley chiavi and ran a hand down his inky black feathers. As a member of the Ild'vann it was customary for her to have a flying mount of her own and while Yngvara preferred hunting on the ground Yuli's presence was a beloved one. He was far more spirited than Ada and to prove it he nipped at her headband in protest. Still, he knew his duty, performed it well, and Yngvara could correct him if he got too out of hand.

"He'll just leave if you make him made," she murmured, only to be met with a smirk from her mother. Clearly the woman didn't care and Yngvara could only give a breathless laugh. Today was going to be an odd one.

Eirex led the way with his head up and a big grin on his face. He was going to see one of his cousins and his aunt today, and he got them all to himself. His twin was home sick, but he was feeling perfectly fine and had insisted on going. No way was he going to miss one of these rare visits.

He glanced over his shoulder to make sure his father wasn't falling behind and grinned even brighter. "I hope it's something fun," he chirped with an extra skip in his step. They should be coming up soon.... "Chiavi!" He jumped forward with excitement, though a bark from his father made him slow down. Just a little. It made waving his arms over his head easier. "Look, it's them! Hi Aunt Sylvie! Hi Yngvara!"

Ergon spent the trip trying to keep from worrying. Sylvirah had told him nothing about her plans for this family time, and he was not a big fan of surprises. Still, he knew that time together was important; especially for the boys. At least Eirex was feeling well enough.

He looked at the chiavi with surprise and shook his head. "Eirex. You know not to approach wild animals like that." Ah, but then Eirex pointed out the familiar forms dwarfed by the large avians. A tiny smile rose, and he even raised his hand to wave. The girls must have ridden the chiavi here. That was all. "It will be just the two of us today. Reaghan isn't feeling well unfortunately."

Yngvara 2

While Ada did little more than to turn toward the excitable shout, Yuli gave a little cry of surprise and fluffed his feathers, doing his best to look bigger than he already was. Yngvara just rolled her eyes and patted his snout, soothing the chiavi down as best she could. "Hello Eirex." She passed a soft smile to her younger cousin, then a little more demure one to his father. "Hello Uncle."

So Reaghan was sick? Well, she'd just have to go visit with him after todays lesson. If Ergon didn't ban them from the home after this, that is~

Sylvirah 2

"Ah, there you are! I was starting to think I'd have to come get you." Normally Sylvirah would have met them halfway and wasted no time taking her nephews into her arms. In this case, however, she waited to hear Egon's explanation as to why there was only one twin here today and her smile waned. "Stakkars gutt, I hate to hear that. Remind me to send some mugwort home with you. Mix it into his food and he'll be well by morning."

Yuli's little display earned a dry look from Sylvirah as well as Ada. The experienced chiavi leaned over to n** at his neck, causing Yuli to give a little aggravated chirp.

"So, how about it Ergon? Ready to teach your son how to ride?"

Eirex giggled and shook his head. "I wouldn't miss seeing you, Aunt Sylvie." He closed the distance and hugged his arms around her hips. "Mugwort. That's a funny word. Mugwort." His attention turned to the chiavi, managing to not rush over to pet their glorious feathers. When his aunt spoke up, his brow rose practically up to his hairline and he spun to his father with shocked excitement. "Are we riding the chiavi, father?!"

Ergon managed to give Yngvara a small smile and nod in greeting. He wasn't the warmest guy, but it was a sight better than when the kids had been younger. "It's good to see you both. I will try to remember that." He glanced at his son and gave a sigh of amusement. That boy...

How to ride? His gaze rose to his sister, then to his niece, and then to his son. "Excuse you?" His eyes snapped back to Sylvirah with shock, face pinched with discomfort. "You want him to ride one of those things? In the air?" Eirex was certainly excited about the prospect, but of course Ergon was hesitant. "We've never needed to ride on of those at home. I don't even know how to ride them."

Eirex was so excited.... he knew he was going to give in, but he was sure going to make a point of grumping about it first! He crossed his arms and shook his head. "Perhaps a little warning before suggesting something so dangerous for my boys?"

Sylvirah 3

With Ada Sylvirah felt confident enough letting go of her reigns to wrap her arms around little Eirex. She nuzzled her face into his hair and held him like the precious bundle of life he was. There was nothing the Ild'vann prided more than new blood and the potential it could bring, so Sylvirah was no exception.

And there it was. "Of course I do. He's old enough now to start his lessons and so are you." Ergon's admission was something she'd guessed, but hadn't thought about at length for some time. It was a shame, really; to stay on the ground all the time when there was so much to see.

"If I'd warned you you wouldn't have come." Still, her tone softened and the challenging, playful tone dropped away. "Trust me? You know I'd never do anything to hurt them." Her own children were perfect examples of that. They were trained hunters, both of them, but a lot of care had gone into that training.

With it mostly settled, she looked at Eirex. "Alright, so here's how we're gonna do it. You're going to ride with me, right up front where I can strap in you nice and tight. And your papa's going to ride with Yngvara. Sound good?" She gave two sharp whistles, followed by a third low one and the chiavi started to approach them. Once the massive avian was close enough she lowered herself onto the ground and shimmied to get in better position. "This is Ada; she's my very best friend and she'll take really good care of us."

Yngvara 3

While her mother was getting Eirex acquainted with Ada, Yngvara took a wider path toward Ergon and brought Yuli with her. Ada may have been the larger Chiavi, clearly because of her age, Yuli was the sharper beast. His talons were long, hooked blades that could easily eviscerate a mammu corpse, but the teenager led him as easily as cattle.

"This is Yuli." She said in a lowered, demure tone. "Since you're bigger you'll have to sit behind me, but you can still see how to hold the reigns." Yngvara nudged him to turn, gave the same whistle commands her mother did and Yuli begrudgingly got into a similar position as Ada. She motioned to his saddle and the multitude of leg straps. "Once you're up I'll lock you in." The strapping would appear at regular intervals from calf to hip; all easily unbuckled in case of an emergency departure, but steadfast for a harrowing flight.

Eirex giggled and snuggled into his aunt's embrace. Of course, his aunt's observation made him gasp with delight and he spun to face his father. "You're gonna learn to fly, too?" Not only would he be learning something new and exciting, but he would also be learning alongside his father! How thrilling!

He looked to Sylvirah as she started giving directions and nodded. He could be a bit of a wild child, but even he knew enough to pay attention in certain situations. "Hi, Ada," he crooned with a light wave. "I'm gonna ride on you with Aunt Sylvie, okay?"

"Me?" Ergon stared with uncertainty, gaze flicking between the members of the group in front of him. Sylvirah was such a conniving little thing! "You I trust. The beasts.." He didn't like the idea of giving so much control to an animal. If something went wrong, what was he supposed to do? There would be nothing but a long fall!

Yngvara would be with him though... She was still young, but not the child she had once been. Would she really be able to keep him on though?

With a heavy sigh, he turned to face the pair approaching him. That bird was rather.. dangerous looking when up close. "Yuli," he grumbled, eyes peering suspiciously at the various straps being pointed out. ..Nope, he didn't like this.

His son's excited voice was what pushed him to climb onto the avian's back stiffly, and his hands gripped the saddle tightly. "So.. you ride this thing a lot?" he asked his niece, trying to sound calmer than he felt.

Sylvirah 4

Ada regarded Eirex with the same level of patience that she'd given Sylvirah's own children which was mild curiosity and mostly indifference. She gave an odd look before turning to her mistress. "Alright, up you go!" The iceling wasted little time in moving her hold on her nephew down to his chest and hoisting the boy up into the saddle. While she was strapping Eirex in, Sylvirah gave a look over to Ergon and smirked before leaning in closer to the boy. "Looks like your papas pretty worried," She whispered. "Maybe he's scared. I bet if we're really brave we can show him it's okay. What do you think?"

When the last strap was in place Sylvirah maneuvered herself onto the saddle as well. Ada shifted a bit to accommodate the familiar weight and once Sylvirah had the last of her rigging in place she lifted the reigns.

Yngvara 4

The teen waited patiently for her Uncle to get in the saddle so she could adjust his restraints. Instead of sitting calmly as Ada had done Yuli was impossibly curious and kept craning his head to watch the two of them, even going so far as to n** Yngvara's arms when she didn't pay attention to him. When he did it for the third time, even after she shooed him, she popped off with a few choice words in the northern tongue and he wisely settled.

Now that she was properly huffy, Yngvara climbed into the saddle infront of her Uncle and started the process with herself; this time without Yuli's help. "When he lets me." Yngvara said calmly. She looked back once, her silver eyes bright against her darkened skin and gave Ergon a smile. He was going to have fun, she knew it, he just had to let himself have it which would be the hard part.

As she finished up her restraints, Yngvara spoke, "It's customary in the Ild'vann to raise your mount. They grow with you and you share one spirit. I did that with Stjerne, but not Yuli." Her sermal was as wild as any feral beast, but Yngvara wanted that. You couldn't trust a tame creature to defend you in the wild. When she straightened and grabbed the reigns Yuli did as well, causing Ada to raise.

"Yuli is a rescue. He's harder to train, but he's fast. Faster than Ada." And then, when she looked back to Ergon was that same devilish smirk Sylvirah wore. A second later she was snapping the reigns and Yuli took off. He was the first to take flight, but Ada wasn't far behind.

The grin on Eirex's face was a mile wide as he was boosted into the saddle. Sitting still so that he could be buckled in securely was a challenge, but he tried his best! Then his aunt joined him, and he felt like he was about to squirm out of the straps!

The whisper made him look over to the other pair, and his brow rose curiously. His father was scared? "I'll be brave," he assured firmly, his expression turning serious. Briefly. Then his expression brightened with awe as he watched the others take off into the air. Trembling with excitement, he brought his hands down to grip the saddle, feeling the avian shift underneath him. Time to go!
