“Have I ever told you that you look amazing in that outfit?” Taenite asked as he leaned casually against the back of the bench in-- was this considered a ‘break room’? He didn’t know. He’d never really worked in an office setting beyond what the Negaverse had. He was going to assume this was considered a break room.

There wasn’t much, just a station to make coffee, a place to sit and relax and talk to (coworkers?) fellow agents. It wasn’t anywhere secure. They could definitely plan on anyone and everyone eavesdropping on conversations.

But he happened to think Cymophane was rather pretty, and had a cute personality (as far as he’d seen) to boot.

“We should definitely work on some more missions together. I think we made a pretty good team in the couple we’ve been in,” he said with a winning grin as he pushed his ridiculously long hair off to the side so it wouldn’t get in the way. Just in case Cymophane wanted to sit down with him. Probably not, but there were also chairs across the table from him.

“This outfit in particular?” Cymophane asked. He struck a cute pose to show off the massive bow at his back. “I don’t think so. Maybe the old one. Feel free to keep the compliments coming, though.”

Cymophane liked compliments, especially when they came from cute guys. He didn’t need them, of course. He knew he looked good, and the outfit was only part of it. It probably wouldn’t be around for much longer anyway, if he ended up earning another promotion.

He had a pretty good feeling he was well on his way.

He bounced from the coffee station — where he hadn’t been putting together coffee, but hot chocolate — over to Taenite.

Taenite was… Okay, Cymophane had the impression that he could be kind of smug and maybe a bit of an a**, just a harmless one. But he was also funny, and he knew how to keep things light during tense situations, which Cymophane appreciated, seeing as he liked to do the same. While everyone else got all serious, he and Taenite could joke around together.

“There haven’t really been any major missions in a while,” he observed. “Maybe everyone’s tired. Or they’re involved in some top-secret stuff. I would’ve told you about my last one, but… you know… I had to keep it confidential. If anything else comes up, I can see if Jet has a spot for you, so long as you do the same for me with Axinite.”

Cymophane paused, then a slow smile spread across his face. “Speaking of… you spend a lot of time around Axinite, don’t you? Anything going on there?”

Taenite couldn’t help but laugh when Cymophane brought up anything going on between him and Axinite.

“Axinite? The man is so stressed but won’t let anyone try to help him out. He’s shown no interest in me or in his friend he keeps around for lunches… Kamacite? He’s your friend too, isn’t he?” Taenite shrugged. It didn’t matter because Axinite had his head buried so deep in his work that he couldn’t come up to breathe long enough to realize anyone might have interest in him before diving back down.

“No, he’s being annoyingly professional, even when I have flirted with him,” he sighed dramatically. “Such a waste too. I could give him a good time. I’ve got everything he might need to relax. Candles, oils, drugs…”

Taenite shrugged again because he knew that half the time people would be offended over the fact that he had access to drugs. The other half either didn’t care or asked if they could get some.

“If anyone needs a vacation, that man does. But he won’t give up any time. He’s devoted even more time to the Negaverse now that he’s cut back hours at his day job. Then again, with everything that’s been going on, I don’t blame him. Lots of defections. Princesses getting busted out of prison.”

He paused only for a moment to make sure there wasn’t anyone actually listening to them. But it also wasn’t as though people didn’t hear rumors or now know that Sylvite was on the run after taking Ganymede out of her cell.

“How was that, anyway? That mission. Did the White Moon even give you any trouble? I can’t imagine with someone as strong and intelligent and clever as you,” he grinned.

Cymophane giggled a bit at the thought of Axinite and Kamacite developing anything more than a cordial working relationship. Friendship was about the extent that would go. Kamacite was probably too bashful to go for it even if the idea crossed his mind, and if Taenite couldn’t sway Axinite away from his work with some carefully placed flirting, there probably weren’t very many other people who had a chance.

Unless Taenite was approaching things from the completely wrong direction. Maybe Axinite was the kind of person who got off on, like, an empty inbox and well organized file cabinets.

In that case, Kamacite might actually have a better shot.

“It wasn’t so bad,” Cymophane said of his mission. “Kind of exciting. It’s amazing how gullible they are. Go up to some of them with a good sob story and some convincing emotion, and that’s it, you’ve got an in. I thought for sure it would be harder, but maybe they’re all so full of hope, looking for the best in everyone…”

No wonder they failed so often, with all that idyllic thinking.

“I almost wish I’d been able to talk to the Princess while she was here, just to see what she’s like up close, you know? Probably a good thing I didn’t since she got sprung free. Jet’s still pissed off about it. All that hard work…”

Aside from that, it was kind of a bummer to think that even the agents the Queen trusted most could only be trusted so far. Poor Kamacite nearly had a breakdown after, especially when a couple of Senshi left, too. At some point, there wouldn’t be much trust left to go around…

Still, Cymophane offered Taenite a friendly smile.

“I guess that’s a common trait among the Sovereigns. All work and no play, unless you’re Lepidolite.”

“Unless you’re Lepidolite,” Taenite agreed with a wink. “Then it’s all play. Or if there’s work to be done it’s usually Axinite who has to do it.”

Which was true! He had nothing against the other General King. He would offer to help Axinite no matter what, and not just because he wanted a promotion (again… among other reasons).

“Probably for the best that you didn’t talk to her,” he agreed. There was no telling what would have happened if they’d associated Cymophane with a traitor. He knew Kamacite was miserable because of it.

“Maybe we should aim to be Sovereigns too, huh?” he returned the smile. It was a long shot, but it was better than staying grunts.
