After having four children it was hard not to notice whenever Kyril got pregnant again. The hybrid was working in her art studio when the first wave of morning nausea hit. While the second round of pregnancy with the boys hadn’t been so horrible this one hit just like her very first pregnancy. Kyril found herself putting down her work calmly before walking briskly back into the house where she could get sick in peace. Now it was almost four months later and she was far enough along that there was the slightest of bumps on her stomach. “Do you think it’ll be twins again?” She asked Jhin as she glanced to the side with a small frown. “The boys weren’t as rough though so maybe it’ll be another girl.” Anahita had been rough and that hadn’t changed even as her daughter started growing up as a child. Kyril shook her head at the thought before glancing around the room again. They had renovated most of the stone manor now, the older parts completely taken down and rebuilt with fresh stone taken from the nearby cliffs. The stone was smooth and almost red in the morning sunlight though in other lighting it would look more like the deep brown of the trees that surrounded them in the forest. The upstairs had gone from being a simple room with a tower to an actual series of rooms with a long hallway that stretched from one tower to the next, the newest addition being smaller but sufficient enough for storage and for an emergency exit should something occur. Kyril and Jhin had kept their room near the stairs leading into the kitchen so that they could see everything going on and the emergency room was mostly closed off with a brass key locking it tightly since they used it for storage and not as actual living space yet.

The girls were further along by the new addition with the boys towards the middle and now the room next to Kyril and Jhin was going to be a nursery once more. Kyril had already decorated it with colorful tapestries to help keep out the cold since the night air in the forest could get fairly bitter even in summer, especially with their stone home and now she was rearranging the crib for the fifth time. “Is that too close to the fireplace?”

“A little.” Jhin could only shake his head at Kyril’s antics. While she had been nesting at the manor the man had been working extra hard to make certain that all of the rangers were out on patrol and scheduled for the next season. He had the feeling that he would be fairly occupied towards the end of the year which was confirmed even more with how Kyril was bouncing about with everything. “We could always buy some supplies at the market in the nearby village if it’s too hard to craft…” He began slowly with his words dying as Kyril shot him a look. Of course she wouldn’t want help. Jhin gave a slight shrug before moving the crib back towards the right of the room, away from the windows but closer towards the doorway so that they could hear any trouble.

“As for twins? Let’s hope not.” He admitted with a small smile towards Kyril. “I think the boys proved exactly how much attention a pair of children need in comparison to having one at a time.”

“Fair enough.” Kyril laughed softly as she thought about all the antics they had to deal with over the last couple of years because of the boys. “Here we are going again though.” She teased Jhin as she crossed the room to watch him settle the crib down. Jhin did have a fair point…they could use more blankets for the boys. Kyril’s lips pursed at the thought. She was good at crafting finer things like jewelry and statues but common household goods? It wasn’t exactly something she had been trained in because of her noble heritage. A soft sigh left Kyril’s lips at the realization. “Maybe we should go into the village soon since some blankets would be nice. Do you think they’ll have fine wool this season? We could pad the crib with that and get a couple of quilts. It’ll be late autumn by the time this little one arrives.”

“Hey, this is your request.” Replied Jhin with a smirk as he nudged his wife carefully, his arm wrapping around her waist for a quick hug. “I think we should be able to get some wool from one of the rangers actually. Torvid brought in some sheep and has a little settlement of his own for them on the other side of our village. I approved it a few months ago since he was so adamant about it despite all the challenges. When they’re sheared next I’ll ask him to let us trade for some.” As for the blankets? Maybe he could speak with his aunt. Despite everything that had happened she was still nearby and willing to help them. Jhin had simply removed her powers and for the most part the rangers barely noticed her presence since her betrayal still stung those that knew while others thought she simply had retired without warning. Either way it was fairly easy enough to tell that something had happened and that was one piece of gossip that most decided to avoid, especially since his aunt kept to herself now and didn’t truly leave the village as it was. She was preparing to leave and go to Sauti to live with his father soon enough, that much they had agreed upon because of her actions. Even if there was a peaceful resolution there was still a bitter taste in Jhin’s mouth as he thought about it. The woman who he had so respected that had basically raised him….well what was done was done.

“Hey.” Kyril recognized that look and found herself squeezing Jhin tightly. “Stop that.” She chastised him again and booped his nose with a finger. “No worrying about what is past. We have the future to deal with.” She knew it was unfair but at the same time she wanted Jhin to be happy and not caught up on someone who had betrayed them. Though admittedly it was easier for Kyril to ignore the woman who had tried to chase her out of the village in the first place, the very woman who had tried to break them up and nearly convinced Kyril that she couldn’t be the woman that Jhin or her daughters needed…ugh. Kyril took a moment and closed her eyes tightly against the rising emotions before glancing at Jhin again. “Let’s work on bringing those wooden chests to this room, okay? Remember the ones I picked up last year from another artisan? He had lovely engravings and I think it would look nice with the tapestries we have. The kinfa match the one hanging there by the crib.”

Even though Jhin’s heart ached in the moment the boop brought him back to the present. “I’m sorry.” He murmured into Kyril’s hair as he held her close for a moment before finally letting go again. Somehow she still smelled like the ocean even after living in the forest for so many years with him. It was a comforting scent and one that brought him back to the present as he studied his wife. She had been through a lot as well, especially when she decided to come live here with him in the forest. Jhin was grateful though and couldn’t help reaching out to tuck back a stray teal curl behind her ear. “Both chests? You’re really banking on twins, aren’t you?” He forced the tease with a small smile before pulling away to start down the hallway so that he could retrieve the chests.

“No need to apologize.” Kyril murmured as Jhin started walking away, her cheeks flushed from how close he had been. Even after being together for so many years the ranger still made her heart flutter with that intense gaze. And there was the teasing. Kyril could only shake her head with a soft chuckle. “You never know. Better prepared than not!” She called out after him as she walked about the room and waited for Jhin's return. The fireplace needed a bit more dusting…not that she intended to use it unless one of them stayed in the room with the baby or babies at night. Kyril frowned thoughtfully. Would the cribs be easy enough to move if they wanted to keep the baby in their bedroom on colder nights? She hoped so.

“Uh huh.” Jhin was just thankful that the chests were empty. The man carefully moved one at a time down the hallway so that he could scoot them the rest of the way into the nursery. The chests were beautiful and he couldn’t blame Kyril for purchasing them. The wood was almost golden in the rays of sunlight that flickered into their home through the arching windows that decorated the hallway and the details on the kinfas were almost realistic. The lines on the feathers, the curve of the beaks and the way the natural cut of the wood highlighted the tails made the birds almost look like they were ready to fly free from the box. Honestly he thought the sunlight would be best for the chests so Jhin found himself eyeing the side of the room with the one window with plenty of sun. “Where would you like them?”

“Thank you.” Kyril watched as Jhin brought in the second box. “I’m not certain actually. They’re so pretty that I think we should show them off whenever family or friends visit….do you think the window would be an okay idea?” She pursed her lips thoughtfully as she continued glancing about the room before looking over at Jhin again.

“I was actually thinking that.” Jhin admitted with a sheepish smile. “They are really lovely so why not? It’s that or against this wall here but you can’t see it from the doorway.” He shook his head at the thought before testing the theory by placing a box by the window and the other by the doorway. The sunlight did hit both but when he backed out of the room you couldn’t see the one by the doorway unless you peered inside on purpose. “So under the window by the tapestry, got it.”

Kyril watched Jhin and nodded as she studied the results. “That should work. The glass is sturdy so it’s not like rain or anything should be touching the boxes.” She had placed that glass in herself. The whole manor had stained glass windows designed by the artisan who had put her heart and soul into rebuilding the manor into its former glory alongside of Jhin. “Would it be overkill to make a window with a feather?” She mused quietly as she studied the plain glass that was in this room. Well it wasn’t exactly plain since there were some stars in the design though it was Kyril’s first piece and she had been too cautious with the stained glass. She wanted something more elegant that would fit with the kinfa theme of the room. They still had a few months before the baby so it would give her plenty of time to create a piece and set it up.

“Mmhmm. I’ll put heavy draperies up to keep out sunlight on harsher days so that will also protect the boxes.” Though that would defeat the purpose of the boxes…as long as they pulled the draperies back on most days as long as it wasn’t too hot outside. He would probably put up the soft blue ones to match the theme of the kinfa with the colors of the sky. I’ll commission something with clouds and a sun to place in the center of the room. Jhin decided before Kyril’s sudden question caught his attention. “A feather?” He asked with a slight frown of confusion.

“I was thinking like a kinfa feather going down the center of the glass with colored swirls on either side. Almost like it's a feather falling towards the ground.” Kyril explained as she gestured towards the glass and used her hands to portion off the center area she was thinking of filling up with a feather. “Maybe a soft green or something if wanted? The swirls can be a pale yellow and blue.” Maybe some pink or teal as well? Kyril nodded as she thought out the design. “I think that would be nice if we did a kinfa and sky theme for the nursery.”

“If you’re okay with doing that extra work.” Jhin replied with slight concern as he studied his wife. Not that the idea was bad - if anything he adored the idea of it since it already matched what he was thinking for the room. “I think it would be lovely and I was thinking about getting draperies that were almost sky colored along with some cloud themed accessories to decorate. We can try to find someone to make quilts with a baby kinfa on it as well as even Chiavi or other birds.”

“I’m fine with doing the extra work.” Kyril nodded with a small smile. “If anything it’ll keep me busy while we wait for the arrival.” Of course their other children kept her constantly busy but she was hoping to have Cahira come stay with them for a bit to see if her younger sibling would help out with the children instead of darting about different countries for her sword training. “I think all of that sounds lovely. Instead of kinfa we can find different birds to represent! I love it.”
