The Wishing Tree (1): A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains:
Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park.
The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.”
If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.

Eliza was heading toward the wishing tree, though she was still thinking about her wish. There were so many things she could wish for to improve the city and the world. She certainly didn't want to pick something two invasive and her main wish in her heart was two self-serving. She sighed, choosing to sit beneath the tree criss-cross applesauce and think some more. The tree was so beautifully decorated and it reminded her of christmas. She wondered if that was the point as Christmas was a time when wishes came true. People received gifts and all kinds of surprises they had been wishing for, it was supposed to be a joyful and happy time.
Eliza flopped back into the grass starfishing and continued to look up at the tree still unsure. She closed her eyes and listened to the wind rustling the leaves and grass around her. She smiled humming a tune that popped into her head running one of her hands over the grass beside her. She thought of the beauty the festival seemed to bring to the city. The meteor shower, the mysterious fireflies, the fairy garden, the wishing tree. There was beauty to be seen everywhere when the star festival occurred.
She opened her eyes looking up at the decorations that hung in the tree and she knew what her wish was. She slowly climbed to her feet and grabbed a piece of paper to write down her wish. It was a simple wish and she figured it would be easy enough to grant.
Quote:
I wish to see a little more permanent beauty added to the city. Be creative
She had a time being so short tying her wish up and she had to climb in order to be able to do it. She hoped that wasn't against the rules. She didn't climb too high and she hadn’t disturbed any of the ornaments. Before she went back down she grabbed one of the wishes in the tree to grant. She wanted to make sure she made someone else's dream came true for sure.
She hopped down from the tree and laid in the grass again taking the wish and opening it. It immediately confused her with deep scribbles in the paper trying to cross out the person had originally written. Eliza furrowed her brow and turned the paper over and tried to see if she could read the words imprinted on the paper from the other side. She sighed when she couldn’t and flipped the paper back over reading the words and figuring that the request was easy enough. She knew people were paid to do it, it probably wasn't an everyday job and she wasn’t sure how thorough of a job was being done when it was. She figured she might need Willie’s help with this and maybe she could even call her new friend Holi or some friends from college. They could make a day of it and clean far more bus stops than she would have been able to clean herself.
