"Well, I think the cookies turned out," said Sadie, careful to stay in step with her brother so that she could feel like she was being properly watched over as they made their way back from the baking lesson. "But, you're the one who would know, aren't you?" It was easier to talk about cookies than about the scars she carried, and the danger she'd been in, and all the rest of everything that made Calvin feel like he needed to walk her home from something as simple and safe as what they'd been doing. She didn't want him to ask too many questions, after all. She hated lying. In an alleyway behind them, a youma shifted, its forked tongue flicking out of its mouth and finding the scent of prey. Its long, serpentine body skittered slowly on too-short legs, but it was persistent as it went after the two of them, sticking to the shadows that seemed to cling to it.

"The cookies turned out just as I had hoped: Sweet, crumbly, and just hard enough on the outside to seal in the soft inside." Said cookies were stashed in a Pastry Pastures-branded paper bag at Sadie's side. True to his word, they were surprisingly soft and sweet. He had avoided getting any cat hair on the cookies, but Sekhmet's attempts to steal them had left Calvin's pants a little fuzzier. "I think they turned out well for a first attempt. At the very least, they were better than mine." Calvin walked a little slower than usual, as though worried that his sister would fall behind. His eyes scanned the streets as he finished talking. Despite the light conversation and cheerful compliments, he had been wary ever since the two had started walking. He watched every pedestrian they passed for any hints of aggression, and always moved to block Sadie from any alleyway on their route. "Do you have any plans for tonight?" He says, glancing around the corner, "Meeting anyone?" The youma managed to avoid these searches, sliding up behind a dumpster in the next alley. It stayed quiet for the moment, coiling its long body and preparing to pounce.

Having access to her bipedal form, finally, was the best thing ever. She could walk faster! Do science easier! Go to homeworlds and touch things instead of just batting at them or admiring from afar! Make more cool tech without needing to wrestle with paws! And, most of all, this civilian guise worked a bit better. Three hours! It was enough time for a whole long superhero movie--she had tested it, of course. Those seats were sp comfy, especially when some attendant wasn't chasing her out of them-- Being in her civilian guise, though, meant she hadn't felt the stalking youma. She did, though, see it. Viatrix let out a quiet gasp, dropping down to her cat form without question and scurrying to a place she could ring up one of the plentiful powered people she lived with--Encke, Basiluzzo, Dagon, Nectaris-- But then she saw Sadie. And it was like a record scratch. She darted out of her hiding spot, skidded in front of her though not immediately so she wouldn't trip them, and realized she hadn't thought this through. So Viatrix mewed warily at Sadie.

"I was meeting you, but now I'm done with that," said Sadie, smiling gently off into the distance. "I might get out the paints? Normally I'd just curl up and watch a few episodes of something, but the sugar has me feeling all inspired." The energy from the cookies might fade by the time she had actually gotten back to her apartment, as sugar rushes often did, but it was worth trying to ride the wave for as long as she could before it all crashed. Those thoughts were interrupted by a mew from near her feet. First, Sadie tensed. Her track records with cats was not the best. She didn't have a way with them, the way her brother did. Then, she looked down, to see that it was Viatrix. Also, she looked worried. Sadie's heart froze. To make it worse, with her brother there, her tongue was tied. Viatrix was meant to be just a cat. Calvin would probably be crooning over her in about three seconds, and there was no way that Sadie could talk to her about serious things. "Oh. Hello, cat," she said, stilted. Sadie did not lie. Sadie did not act. Every word had her feeling terribly strange. "Is everything okay?"

"Cat?" Calvin turned when he heard Sadie mention his favorite animal. The stilted tone of her voice was familiar, like she was suddenly put in a very awkward situation where she didn't know what to do. Putting the pieces together wasn't difficult. Meeting a new cat, and bailing out his sister? That was a golden opportunity he couldn't afford to miss. Calvin stepped in front of his sister and knelt down, holding out his hand to the adorable cat that was mewling so sweetly. "Oh, hello there!" he said in a baby-voiced whisper "Are you scared? It's okay, we won't hurt you." He followed the cat's gaze up to Sadie, misreading the intent behind it. "Don't worry about Sarandon, she's just nervous around cats. But I'll give you aaaaaall the pets." He holds his hand out to the cat's head to emphasize the promise, but didn't move the last few inches to touch her. Calvin knew that he had to wait for this kitty to come to him, otherwise he might scare it off by being too pushy.

Sadie seemed to be catching the sign that something wasn't right. That was good. Probably, because where did she go without just looking behind the two of them and hissing? Encke would be upset if she got this wrong for sure; never wanted Sadie to even have a chance of getting hurt-- The boy Sadie was with wasn't wrong. She was scared. Just not of them. The wary mewl escaped again as she approached the boy. It was hard to reject pets, anyway, and gave her more time to evaluate her approach to find the right one that would get them all to safety and also not blow Sadie's cover because who the hell knew who else this boy could be. She didn't know his powered form if he had one so she couldn't necessarily assume anything good of it-- She felt it when she affectionately bumped his hand. Oh. Was that-- Viatrix needed to stop waffling. The youma was ready to strike, and there was plenty to strike at here. She looked behind the boy as she twisted her body around to affectionately rub at his arm, and then pointedly looked to Sadie, then behind her, and said, "We gotta move." If Sadie had an unawakened senshi with her, it didn't really matter if she revealed herself, did it--

Viatrix was talking. A spike of anxiety hit Sadie through the chest at that, a stronger one than before. Whatever was chasing her, that was fine. She'd seen youma before. She'd seen agents before. Even a General she could probably keep away from her brother. Only, what if her brother was the General? That was a worry that had been hiding under her skin for years for years. What if he was a General and saw her talking to a cat? What would happen then? Not time to worry, she thought, and her hands went to her hair, twisting and twisting and twisting around one of her curls, and that helped settle her enough that she could move. "One second," she said, and then she was slinking away. There weren't a lot of places to hide out on this street, but there were a few recycling bins that Sadie could just barely squeeze behind. She managed it, though, and she let the power of Neptune wash over her, and when she squeezed back out the other side, she was Pendour, all soft silks and pearls with glowing scales scattered across her skin. Her eyes flicked from Calvin to Viatrix. "What is it?" she asked. " Where is it?" Her question was answered quickly, as the skittering youma came into view towards the end of the street.

Calvin blinked in confusion, hand still out to pet the cute new cat. The cat that very clearly just told them to get going. Sadie clearly thought the cat was on to something, so he trailed a few steps behind his sister. "Wait... wh-" His stumbling question was cut off by the look on Sadie's face. The focused expression, the curt tone, the way her hands played with her hair... Sadie was serious, and she was scared. Most people knew Sadie as a soft and gentle, which was true to an extent. People often mistook her for meek and cowardly, but Calvin knew his sister on a deeper level. In truth, she was one of the strongest people he knew. She just didn't let that strength hurt anyone else. After a moment's hesitation, he followed around the corner. He had wanted to ask a variety of questions about what was worrying her so much, why the cat was talking, and why they should trust an unknown talking cat. But the scene presented to him when he turned the corner reduced all of those to one simple question. "What's happening?" Calvin backed up against the wall, staring at the glowing woman in front of him. She was magnificent and imposing like some kind of ancient Greek Goddess, but there was also something about her that felt familiar. The spark of familiarity faded quickly though, replaced by shock and growing fear. There was some kind of... monster in the street. It wasn't anything Calvin had seen before, and definitely didn't look friendly. He glanced nervously between the mysterious duo, considering his choices.

Okay, good, Sadie got the message. Not that it would be hard to miss with her literally talking around a civilian, which was usually something she only did if she was certain of a new senshi or if something was very, very wrong. This qualified as both. And then Sadie was leaving ahead of the two of them, before Viatrix even had a chance to say that there was nothing for her to worry about from that perspective -- though at least a knight would make that slithering youma a bit easier to deal with. And then the man she was with was following her, and then he was frozen, which made sense considering Pendour was a powerful Neptunian transcendent knight-- "There's a monster," she offered, glancing between Pendour and -- her friend? her brother? "And she can help defeat it," Viatrix nodded to her, before very specifically looking to Pendour's company, "but you can, too." She shifted, warily glancing behind herself. "You have the power of a world out in space, and I can help you unlock that."

"Not defeat," said Pendour, quickly, and there was a hint of steel to her quiet voice, the way there always was when someone tried to get her to fight. Her good eye was locked on the youma, though, which was skittering more directly towards them now that her Transcendent aura was luring it closer. "We just need to get out of here." Only, then she was actually processing what Viatrix was saying. A world out in space.Mauvians were the ones who awakened senshi, weren't they? She blinked. Then she blinked again, frozen in light of all that information despite the fact that the creature was skittering forwards very menacingly, its mandibles clacking. "Calvin's a senshi?" she asked, and then she blinked one more time, and then she had accepted it. "Okay," she said softly, inhaling while she caught up to the situation. "Well, awaken him quickly, because I can only distract our guest for a minute or so, maybe." Then her ocarina was in her hand and she was walking forwards, playing the music that channeled her magic. Luckily, it seemed to take effect on the youma. The mandible clicking slowed, and its eyelids drooped.

Calvin glanced around, hesitating from the conflicting messages. The monster in front of them was intimidating, and clearly didn't belong in a big city like this, but it also seemed strangely docile. Ever since this majestic woman stepped in front of it, its approach slowed and lost its aggression. With her protecting them from the beast, Calvin felt comfortable looking away to search for his sister. She had walked down the alleyway where the silk-laden woman came from. At first he thought Sadie had spontaneously changed clothes, but that was clearly silly. Instead, he peered down the alley to try and see where she had gone. "Sarandon!" He called out to the empty road, "It's okay! Your cat's friend is warding it off!" His hands were tense and shaking and his eyes kept darting around to try and find his sister. Eventually, he resorted to turning to the other two for advice. He turned to the new woman, ignoring the talking cat for now. He would compliment her ventriloquism later. "Sorry," he said, cautiously approaching her, "I don't think we've met. Are you one of Sarandon's friends? And wait, did you just call me a sushi?"

Right, defeat was a bad word with Pendour, wasn't it? Encke had said she was something of a pacifist. Okay, maybe something was too light of a word for it. Very much a pacifist, maybe... "He is," responded Viatrix, without a moment of hesitance. She was certain of it, even, and knew that the starseed of the one she was facing was probably why there even was a youma very determined to get over to them. Well, the energy from Pendour probably wasn't helping-- The apparent ventriloquist wasn't the one talking, though, and she'd need to resolve Sadie's brother trying to get closer to the youma. She dashed to break the distance he had created as quickly as possible, poking his leg determinedly with her paw. "Senshi, not sushi, though sushi is pretty good," she responded, stubbornly looking up at him. If only she could use her bipedal form for this. Something something too much energy output-- "And I am one of Sadie's friends!" Well, she liked to think so, anyway-- "But I also have a gift for you. Look at me, the cat, and take it and follow me away from the monster." In her teeth, then, she held a henshin pen, and she moved it to her paw and lifted it up for him to take it from her. stari_maga so sorry for the delay y'all, i didn't get this tag and then my life went a little haywire for a bit Thinkery legit my bad, let's get Felis awakened!!

"You can tell him it's me if that helps things," Pendour called over her shoulder, which may or may not have been a good idea. The music had seemed to be working on the youma. It had stopped moving quite so fast, and it even closed its eyes for a few seconds before opening them again. However, when she stopped playing her music so she could talk to the others, it perked back up within the second, and she had to dodge a swipe from its mandibles. Something about Transcendence got the youma all riled up, she'd heard. She took a step to the side, down an alley away from Calvin, and she started with the music again. It was a relief, really, that he was going to be powered up after this. She didn't know why Encke was so anxious about his family members being caught up in all this. All she was thinking about right now, even with a large monster closer to her than was strictly comfortable, was that she wouldn't have to lie about what had happened, just now. She wouldn't have to lie about her scars anymore.

Calvin flinched when he felt the tap on his leg, but relaxed when it turned out to just be the cat. He knelt down to listen and... Now he was standing between the cat and the glowing woman, and the voice was still coming from the cat. Ventriloquism couldn't do that. Then again, there was a giant shadowy monster... thing, which looked like it would have bitten him in half if a magical woman in a glowing blue-green dress hadn't walked out of a random alleyway and started playing music to it. Perhaps he shouldn't be so bothered about a talking cat. Questions could wait until the danger passed. And Sadie would have a lot of questions to answer once he caught up with her. "Okay, talking friend-cat" Calvin reached out to take the Henshin pen. "What does it do?" "Tell him... Wait." The voice seemed to connect something in his mind, and the pieces started to come together as he followed the cat. "Is she..?" Seiana_ZI It's okay, we're all pretty busy

Honestly, knowing that Sadie didn't mind her brother knowing despite the fact she had run off was the first step. Would make it a bit easier if she could make this guy understand what he was with the assistance of his sister being at least adjacent. As Pendour started to move down an alleyway to lure the monster away from her brother, Viatrix stayed put, happy that the brother took the pen. A good second step... "She is," replied Viatrix without a moment of hesitance when asked. "Her name is Pendour in this form, and she's a knight. Similar to what you are, but different, because you are a senshi! And we can explain that more in a bit, but first, you'll be safer if you henshin up." And maybe help Pendour drive the youma away. Or whatever she preferred... She indicated the pen. "That, Sadie's brother, is a channeling device to help you tap into this form. Now I usually recommend a channeling phrase, too--not that you have to use it--," Encke refused these days, said it was easier to just morph into the form when he was close and silently, but that was him, "but for you, that'd be Felis Power, Make-up!" Viatrix couldn't help but be a bit amused for a moment. Felis, of all things, being told by someone who was ostensibly a cat-- "Just think real hard about being that instead!"
